Birds of a Feather

Swanmist woke up early that morning. Stretching out, she yawned quietly before slowly lifting herself off of the ground. She exited the warriors den, glancing around, watching warriors leave with their apprentices. That's her. She's a warrior with an apprentice. How did that happen? She hesitantly padded towards the apprentice's den, poking her head inside. Swanmist spotted the grey tabby sleeping in her moss bed and walked over, stepping delicately over the other apprentices that weren't awake yet. She prodded Featherpaw lightly and once she awoke, Swanmist flicked her head towards camp exit.

Swanmist waited for her apprentice to arrive, feeling really nervous about training her first one. She tried to look reassuring, but that look was more for herself.

Featherpaw was sleeping peacefully in her new nest in the apprentices' den. She rolled over onto her other side and stirred awake a bit as she felt a soft prodding on her fur. She opened her eyes slowly to see what was up and saw Swanmist, her mentor standing above her. This made Featherpaw suddenly wake up as she realized that she was about to begin her training. "Is it time? Yay!" Featherpaw shouted excitedly, hoping she didn't wake the other apprentices as she realized she was a bit loud. With that, she quietly but quickly exit the den and asked, "So what are we going to do today? Hunt?"

Swanmist looked down at her apprentice, the thought of training one gave her a little bit of a chill down her spine, or maybe it was just the weather. She answered the Apprentice's question with a simple nod and started leading her out into the territory she headed towards the river, relieved that the twolegs were gone and stopped poisoning it. It was still a little hard fishing, due to leaffall weather so maybe it would be better to start with something like a... she heard a noise. Glancing back at her apprentice, she flicked her ears back and forth to tell Featherpaw to pay attention. Frogs weren't the best snack out there but it was something. Plus, she still was a little uncertain about the fish. She crouched down, ears perked and flicked forwards. Her pupils dilating then constricting as she focused on her prey.

She leaped just as the frog did, but she was faster. She sunk her teeth into it's slimey skin and shook it until it didn't move anymore. She came back, frog in her jaws and dropped it at her paws. She flicked her head to the side, signalling that it was Featherpaw's turn to try.

Swanmist attempted to catch a frog and... Succeeded! -3 SP (Swanmist)

Featherpaw followed Swanmist towards the river excited to finally be out of RiverClan's camp and being able to see a bit more of RiverClan's territory. Then she watched and observed as Swanmist  caught the frog. She got nervous when Swanmist motioned  for Featherpaw to try catch one herself. She shyly made her own way over towards the river and stared at it hoping to see another frog. then she pounced.

She then set it down beside her to show her mentor and squealled with joy. she was suprised that she caught something her first try.

Swanmist watched her apprentice carefully, her eyes flickering with a bit of wariness, but surprisingly, she had caught it. Swanmist nodded in approval, signalling that it was her turn with a flick of her paw, and slowly headed away. She raised her nose, breathing in the scents of the forest, her ears swivelling towards the sound of a... Thrush. The little brown spotted thing was hopping around in the territory, it's movements quick, seeming random but everything had a reason, right? She turned her head and watched it for a bit, until it had stopped moving so frantically. She lowered herself, focusing on the bird, her tail swaying, trying not to make a sound. She leapt. The bird didn't see her until she already had her jaws clamped around it's feathery body. She felt it struggle and only had to bite down harder to make it go limp. Swanmist padded towards her apprentice, dropping her catch down in front of her paws. Then she signalled to Featherpaw that it was her turn again. With the rate we're catching things, we'll have a full prey pile in no time! She thought, her tail twitching to show her excitement.

ic: Featherpaw observed as Swanmist was catching the thrush. Then it was her turn again to try and catch some prey. She sniffed the air to sense more thrush and when she caught the scent of one she followed it until she spotted it. She started creeping up to it quietly and then once she got closed to it she jumped and then accidentally landed on a twig in front of her, making it snap in two and causing the thrush to hurry away.

Swanmist waited for her apprentice to return, her ears flicking gently when the she-cat returned with no prey. She gave Featherpaw a soft smile before turning away, deeper into the territory.

The scent of bird caught her noise and she followed it she padded forwards, each step gradually slower than the last as her ears remained perked and eyes peeled.

She saw it. A sparrow. It was trying to fly away but didn't have much luck, one of its wings hanging down, dripping with scarlet blood. She blinked, concerned. It wasn't dead, though, and would probably be an easy catch. She hesitated, a bad feeling overwhelming her as she stepped forwards into a hunting crouch. Her tail trembled and soon she knew why.

A dark shadow appeared I over the sparrow's weak shape. She shuffled back into the bushes, looking up to see a hawk. Swanmist was a rather small cat, and would probably be seen as prey to the bird above. She flattened her ears as it slowly slowly came down. It must've flown over from Windclan.

Swanmist, having not experienced this kind of predator attack before was not aware of it's amazing sight.

Swanmist's pure white fur stuck out like a sore paw.

It quickly came down, faster than anything she had seen before. She expected it to go after the smaller prey but this bird was hungry. Really hungry.

Hungry for cat.

It avoided the sparrow and flew straight towards her. Stunned, she felt stuck to the ground as its talons raked her shoulders. Then she realised the amount of danger she... and possibly Featherpaw were in. It flew back and landed, it was big, and confident. She leaped at the bird, it raised its wings threateningly with a screech but she was already attacking. She pushed it, claws and paws outstretched. It stumbled backwards.

She made it angrier.

Featherpaw gasped as she saw the very large black bird attack her mentor suddenly. She knew she had to help her fight, but she had never been taught to fight before. First time for everything, Featherpaw thought to herself, and reached out to attack the hawk wanting to do any possible damage she could. She unleashed her claws and sank them into the hawk, hopefully giving its wings some damage.

Featherpaw uses front paw strike dealing 6 damage to the hawk and costing feather paw 7 stamina.
