Goose in the barn (open-ivystar first)

A goose in the barn? Yes. There was a goose in Turtlepaw’s barn, and it was seething with typical goose rage. Perhaps one of the dogs that loped around the homestead had chased it in, or maybe it had wandered in on its own. Regardless, it was late in the morning and Turtlepaw had been the only creature left in its shelter.

Now he was streaking across ground beyond the farm’s fence, the feathery demon hot on his short tail, and shrieking in pain and fear. It had pecked and flapped and left all manner of welts on his unsuspecting head while he was asleep, and he was still half asleep now, knowing only that his pleasant dreams had broken away into a horrendous nightmare. The only thing louder than his cries of pain were the angry and triumphant honks of the goose bearing down on his back as persistent as the bright sun. Would his torment ever end?

Though her patrol thus far had been rather peaceful, Ivystar's ears were perked and swiveling around, trying to locate the source of that awful wailing, and... was that a goose? Her emerald eyes surveyed the territory around her... And just on the peripherals of her field of vision, she saw a flapping goose chasing a small brown and white tom, who looked oddly familiar, even from such a distance. With a grunt, she pushed herself to her paws and began running towards them, cutting across the territory so that she could meet them on their path. Squinting, she quickly realized why she'd recognized the tom. "Turtlepaw! Run this way!" She called out, revealing her presence to both the tom and the goose.

Before the goose even had a chance to turn and attack her, she launched herself toward it and managed to get a grip on it's wing, rendering it stunned and unable to attack.

Ivystar used Teeth Grip, dealing -16 Health Points and using -20 Stamina Points. The Goose is held for one turn.

He dashed towards his rescuer, hardly aware of who she was until he got close enough to recognized her. ’Stars, I don’t know if I should be grateful or more afraid!’ the tom thought as he cowered behind Ivystar and tried to catch his breath. He watched with awe as the leader fearlessly charged the angry goose and tore at its wing. It flapped and honked viciously but ineffectively, and Turtlepaw realized that he couldn’t just let his leader battle this enemy alone. It batted its wings and he saw the perfect opportunity: a wide open path to its exposed belly. He dashed through the gap and tore his claws through the bird’s flesh, pulling out clumps of feathers with blood welling up from the wounds.

Turtlepaw used Belly Rake on the Goose, dealing 7 damage and using 10 SP.

The Goose is stunned.

Ivystar hissed as the goose batted it's wings, managing to hold it just long enough for Turtlepaw to get in and attack. Once he was in the clear, she released the feathery creature and leaped backward, keeping herself out of range of its beak and webbed feet. It flapped and fluttered for a moment before she darted forward, bringing both her front paws down on the winged predator and crushing it beneath her. She heard a sickening crunch and then the goose stopped moving, and after a few moments spent in silence, she backed away from it and turned to Turtlepaw. "You... You're a... Kittypet? Turtlepaw... Did they capture you or did you go willingly?" She demanded, eyes glancing between his bright red collar and vibrant eyes.

Adrenaline continued to course through his veins even though he watched the life bleed out of the bird. Now it was paired with nervousness as Ivystar rounded on him. He cowered slightly, his half-tail lashing behind him,as she demanded an answer to his disappearance. ”N-no! I’d never leave, Ivystar, I swear! Back in leaf-fall, there were twolegs on our land and I was worried they’d find our camp... I just kept thinking about being chased away and stuck without a home like SkyClan... but they grabbed me with their weird paws.” he paused, feeling ashamed of his inability to fight back, and even worse, the mark around his neck that identified him as a kittypet. Turtlepaw’s hesitation was accompanied by eyes eyes straying away from Ivystar’s gaze. “They put me in some den with a bunch of other cats... all loners and kittypets, I think. And then I was taken to the farm at the edge of the territory when the weather was warm again. I spent all leafbare in there... I stayed on the farm because... I was afraid RiverClan didn’t want me anymore.” Turtlepaw meowed, tears beginning to well up in his eyes. Who would want an apprentice that couldn’t escape a pair of clumsy twolegs? What good would he be as a warrior? He perked up as he thought about his collar. “B-but the collar can come off! When it gets snagged on something, it breaks and then the twolegs put it back on. But they’re not here to put it on again.”

He shifted onto his haunches and scratched at his neck with his hind leg, trying to catch a claw on the collar. It took a few tries, but he managed to tuck his foot in just right to apply the force needed to rip the collar away from his neck. The sudden freedom from the collar knocked him over, and he rolled to look up at his leader, tears still prickling at his eyes. His fate was in her paws now.

Listening quietly, Ivystar only offered a short, occasional nod as Turtlepaw spoke. It seemed fair enough, though she was slightly upset that he wasn't able to free himself from the twolegs. He had been a young apprentice, so it wasn't surprising... But sad, at the very least. She forced herself to maintain a neutral gaze as she looked into Turtlepaw's eyes, her own emerald green ones narrowed just slightly. "Turtlepaw... You should've come home. We thought you... We thought you'd died." Ivystar's gaze softened a little when she saw tears well up in the smaller tom's eyes, and with a small sigh, she shook her head. "Alright, then. Can you get the thing off yourself?" Her question was soon answered when he began scratching at the weird thing on his neck, and eventually rolling over onto his side when it snapped off.

Looking into his wide yellow eyes, she mewed softly, "Come on, then. I'm sure everyone back home will be happy to see you." With a flick of her tail, she began padding back in the direction of camp, looking back at the tom and expecting him to follow.
