Owlpaw's Mentor Reassignment Ceremony

From atop the Highrock, she could see more than she was used to. Well, it was the same as when she was on the ground, but - a change of perspective could do wonders, she supposed. All the same, there was work to be done. At least the task ahead of her was something simple, if not something she'd become used to quite yet. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!"

Owlpaw felt like she was a disappointment of an apprentice. For moons, she'd been training the best she could, but it still didn't seem like enough. When she heard the yowling for a Clan meeting, the apprentice perked up with a twinge of fear. Was this it? Were they going to exile her for being a bad Clanmate? Had she broken some unspoken rule? Either way, it was better to get it over with, so she stepped up to the Highrock and sat down.

Batbite's gaze settled on Owlpaw at last, gesturing with her tail for her to step forward. "The past several moons haven't been easy on any of us," she began. "The shadow of Asylum no longer towers over us... And yet, with the loss of our leader, we cannot return to life as we knew. Nettlestar was a daughter, a sister, and many other things... And she was also a mentor who left behind an apprentice. We cannot let ourselves forget the past, but nor can we let ourselves linger so heavily on grief for what once was - we must keep moving forward. Owlpaw," she finally addressed the apprentice by name. "From now until the day you receive your warrior name, your mentor shall be Shrikesong. I trust that she will teach you everything she knows."

She had thought long and hard about this particular choice, and she hoped that it was the right one to make. Regardless, she couldn't take back what had been said.
