Rainkit's Apprentice Ceremony

With so many new kits becoming apprentices, Olivestar was so excited to see the Clan she loved so much growing so quickly, and it was with excitement that the leader hopped up the path to the Tallrock, her paws taking the muscle memory and putting it to good use. Ignoring the the pricking in the fur on the back of her neck at being watched, as no matter how long the Asylum had been there, she'd never get used to their presence, she stood tall, suppressing a sliver at the cold wind that blew ever so fiercely at the top of the hollow and across the moor. With a smile and the name of the kit's mentor at the tip of her tongue, she called out the familiar summons.
"May all cats old enough to run the moor gather beneath the Tallrock!"

Rainkit bounded out of the nursery, little eyes gleaming. He loved seeing people getting recognized for doing a good job. Figuring it was a warrior’s ceremony, he wriggled into the crowd of cats to get a good view.

“I wonder who it’ll be today,” he meowed, his bushy tail swishing behind him. Silvery eyes looked up at Olivestar, curiosity burning in them. He felt little purrs trilling in his chest, chirping with excitement.

As the Clan gathered below her, Olivestar smiled as she saw Rainkit squeeze into the crowd below. The kit's energy and enthusiasm about life reminded the leader of herself and especially of her brother, and the smile on her face grew a little wider. When the crowd was big enough to her liking, she spoke once more.
"Rainkit, step forward."

When the fluffy gray kit had done so, she continued.
"Rainkit, you have reached your sixth moon, and it is time for you to begin your apprenticeship. From this day, until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Rainpaw. Lilacsong will be your mentor, and may she pass everything she knows onto you."

With the final words spoken, she began the chant.
"Rainpaw! Rainpaw! Rainpaw!"

Rainpaw?!

He could get used to that! He puffed out his chest and smiled with a wide toothy grin. Rainpaw looked around for his mentor, his fur fully billowing around him from the leafbare winds and from the electric energy of his Clan, chanting.

He bounded to the warrior, his legs trembling with excitement.

“It’s nice to meet you!”

His tail shook as he offered his head and nose to Lilacsong.

“I’m so excited! What’re we gonna do tomorrow?”

Lilacsong stared in shock as she realized she had been named a mentor. She knew Olivestar was her mother, but Lilacsong had only recently been made a warrior herself! Did she truly think she was capable of an apprentice? Shaking her head, she looked up with an awkward, yet grateful smile. Olivestar had been leader of WindClan for Lilacsong's whole life, she knew what she was doing.

Lilacsong stood, about to move to greet her apprentice, but Rainpaw was already there. He was certainly an excitable one, and Lilacsong was a little uneasy. But she saw a lot of herself in the young cats eyes. Maybe there was a reason Olivestar had chosen her as a mentor after all. "It's nice to meet you too, Rainpaw. I, uh, know I'm probably not the mentor you expected.." she began as she touched noses with the apprentice, "..you probably wanted a more experienced warrior. But I'm sure we will get along, and we can both learn along the way! What do you say we do some hunting tomorrow?"

“That sounds super cool,” the little tom chirped, wiggling even more.

“I’m sure I got the best mentor in WindClan! It’ll be so much fun. It’ll be awesome!”

Rainpaw couldn’t stop smiling, his whole body coursed with fire in his veins, excitement bursting from him. “See you tomorrow, then? Sunrise?”

Lilacsong chuckled, flushing a little. The tom was so sure in her, she couldn't help but smile. "That sounds good to me. But you might want to get settled into your new nest before you do anything. And grab yourself a piece of prey. Celebrate. You only get one apprentice ceremony in your life, after all!" She pelt a purr rise in her chest. She could already tell this cat would do great things.

With a yawn, she decided to head to her own nest. If she was going to get up at sunrise, she would need to be well rested. She didn't want to be tired when she was training, after all.
