Emberspark rested his head on his paws with a sigh, watching as his breath misted over, curling into the air and merging with the heavy fog that resided over the ShadowClan camp. He wanted to hunt, fight, do something, and was in the mood doing it with someone who might cheer him up a bit. An apprentice, maybe? They always seemed to have a never-ending supply of happiness. Well, some of them, anyway. Willowpaw was one of them, one of Ebonysong’s friends, too. He could make a friend and have benefits come with her. Perfect.

Decision made, the dark brown tabby padded towards the apprentice’s den, poking his head inside and gently nudging her cream and brown form awake. “Hey, Willowpaw. I might not be your mentor, but I can still take you out hunting, so we’re doing that if you feel up for it!”

Willowpaw was dreaming about running through the leaves as if there was no trouble in the world. As she was about to jump down a hill, the white she-cat awoke to someone calling her name. As everything came to focus as her blue eyes sparkled, she noticed emeberspark, a friend of ebonysong, and smiled before hearing the rest of what he was saying.

She nodded with a bright smile and padded after him to go hunt.

Whisking his tail in contentment, Emberspark trotted through the border into the territory. He stopped at one of the less marshy spots, an easier place to hunt for an apprentice. Maybe Willowpaw would do well; he didn't know what Vinetail had and had not taught her yet. As soon as the thought came to mind, true to his character, he voiced it. "Has Vinetail taught you much about hunting?" He blinked at her, amber eyes warm. Maybe he was... using her to get to Ebonysong, as much as he disliked the notion. But that didn't mean he couldn't have fun, teach Wilowpaw, and make a real friend at the same time.

While waiting for her response, a mouse scuttled by, pausing to sniff at the roots of a pine. Raising his tail for quiet, Emberspark quickly leapt, not bothering with the usual formalities of hunting. To his own surprise, one of his paws slammed down on the tiny creature, which twitched around a few times before going limp. Laughing slightly, the dark tabby warrior turned around to face Willowpaw. "Think of that as an example of how not to do it. I caught the mouse, but it wasn't very good technique." Still, prey is prey.
