Evening Encounter (for Moss)

Blossompaw yelped as the fox suddenly lunged forward, faster than she had ever imagine it would be given it's injuries. Out of pure instinct, she ducked and rolled away from the russet-furred beast, springing back to her paws with frayed claws and fur standing on end, eyes wide and teary as she saw the teeth far closer than she had before. They had snapped closed just above her scruff, and deep down she knew that if those teeth had connected she would have been lost for good. A shaky paw slashed out at the flank of the fox, and as it connected she saw a flash of fur land on the fox's back, slashing furiously. "Spottedstar! You're alive!" She exclaimed, the tears beginning to fall from her eyes despite her best efforts to remain focused on the battle.

Blossompaw used Dodge and Fight, costing 15 SP. Counter-Attack successful dealing 3 (+2 Halfstone) damage.

The fox flailed, yelped, and flung Spottedstar from its back, although it whipped itself around so hard that it lost its balance and tumbled to the ground with a loud crash. Its vision was blurry and the blood loss from all the injuries it had sustained was causing a numbness in its toes and tail-tip. Panicked and fearful, the fox began scrabbling back to its paws, but the sandy undead tomcat reared on his hind legs and brought his forepaws crashing down into the fox's face. Its vision went black and it died on that frozen evening with its crimson blood splattered on the snow.

Spottedstar backed away, a deep sigh of relieved tension escaping his chest. "Yeah, I am now." He glanced at the apprentice with a wince, realizing how horrible that must have been. She was probably too young to have seen much death, and his had been particularly violent. Guilt wracked his tired and aching body as though he had personally summoned the fox. "But it's alright! I'm okay now!" Spottedstar approached and licked her forehead in an attempt to comfort her. "You did great, Blossompaw. You kept your nerve and I don't think that ugly fox even hit you once. You'll make a great warrior... probably not yet, though."

The fox is stunned!

As Spottedstar landed the final blow on the fox and it crumpled, red blood pouring from it's wounds, Blossompaw turned away. Now that the battle was finished, the tears ran freely down her cheeks as she shook nose to tail tip. "So you really did... die...." Her voice cracked as Spottedstar confirmed it without realizing it, and she rushed to meet him as he approached, burying her head in the fur at her mentor's chest. As he attempted to reassure her, licking her forehead, she tried to calm her breathing a bit at a time. At first it seemed a hopeless endeavor, but as her adrenaline wore off her paws didn't seem to shake as much, and the tears slowed to a trickle as she turned her head up to Spottedstar. "I feel like I should have been able to do more... Will you show me that move you used sometime?" As her gaze took in Spottedstar's state she gasped, shaking her head suddenly as she pulled away. "We need to get you back to camp though, to get your wounds looked at." Looking herself over quickly, she noted that while her fur was slick with blood, none of it was her own. As she moved to walk next to her mentor to head back to camp, she looked back at the fox. ".... Spottedstar? What... What happens to the fox now? Do we get a warrior to move it, or do we bring it back to camp?...."
