Dappleshine turned to scold Salmonpaw for his words, if they were intended rudely or not she wasn't sure but regardless they shouldn't have been said. However, nothing could have prepared her for how one of the WindClan apprentice's reacted. His claws flashed in the light as the breached the border, aiming for the young Salmonpaw. Her eyes narrowed in frustration and surprise at the quick temper, and as she turned to give Barleytuft a questioning look she realized the older tom was crashing into her. A yowl of surprise and betrayal escaped her as they tumbled together, sprawled in all directions. The gorge, thank goodness, was still several tail lengths away... But how was the rest of the patrol?

Her blue gaze looked over her group before landing back on Barleytuft, confusion, shock, and dismay evident in her gaze. What in StarClan was going on? And why? Their gazes met as he landed a blow, but she never felt the familiar prick of sharp claws. A flicker of understanding shone in her gaze as she skirted his side, flashing a sheathed paw quickly at his flank. They were far enough away from the others that the lack of claws would not be noticed, but she still made a show of fighting the tom... Even as she whispered apologies to him with every solid hit.

The tension was cracked by a RiverClan apprentice's comment, one that she had found mildly amusing. Of course they were slim, she took pride in her physique as a WindClan cat. Being round and stubby meant that you weren't able to run as well! Looking like a rock might be nice if you sit and wait for a fish all day, but it meant nothing on the moors. Briarpaw, however, took great offense, and as everyone bristled her alarm grew..

And then the tension was shattered as Briarpaw crossed the border, launching an attack on the apprentice. Hissing in mild annoyance, she lurched forward, throwing herself towards a much larger tom (Addershade). She quickly jumped onto his back, latching her claws into his pelt and hanging on for her life and well-being.

Goldenpaw used Leap and Hold on Addershade, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina. Addershade is held for two turns.

Addershade couldn't help but let out an annoyed sigh as the battle began. This was exactly what he thought would happen, right?-- exactly what he thought would happen. Emotions would flare and logic would be thrown aside. He had thought that would be inevitable, and he had been right.

Before he could act, he felt sharp claws and the weight of another cat pressing into his back, and realized one of the WindClan apprentices had gotten a hold of him. He staggered a little and tried to shake the she-cat off, but to no avail, letting out a small hiss in the process, in a mix of frustration and pain.

Larkfeather listened to Salmonpaw’s comment, which didn’t seem that bad at first.  The brown tom thought that the gray apprentice was just curious, and it would have no bad repercussions.  Then, he saw Briarpaw bristle.  Once he realized that Briarpaw was angry at that comment, it was too late.  The WindClan apprentice took down Salmonpaw, sending both patrols into a frenzy.  The brown tabby knew that Salmonpaw could be in danger if Briarpaw chose to attack further. Because of that, Larkfeather kicked Briarpaw off of the RiverClan apprentice, angry that he had taken insult to such a small choice of words.
