Wrenkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Leopardclaw scaled the Highrock, his pelt only half-groomed as it usually was these days, and drew breath to call out to the clan.  "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!"  Today was the day one of his precious grandchildren - Wrenkit - would take her first step into the life of a warrior, and he couldn't be more proud.  The ever present nag of numbness behind his gaze though stifled his expression, and the tom looked merely emotionless.  He sat down, and waited for the clan to emerge from their dens.

Dustcloud slowly made her way out of the warriors den at Leoclaw's call, gray fur sticking out in several directions as she hadn't bothered to groom it out. She sat down, tired eyes gazing up at the Deputy. More ceremonies, she assumed. ThunderClan was growing, and it made her heart swell with joy. They'd finally recovered, and now, they were thriving.

Birdflight walked out of the nursery with a proud smile. Another one of her kits was ready to become qn apprentice. One step closer to being a warrior. The she-cat sat down and looked on with love and pride.

Wrenkit slowly followed her mother Birdflight from the den and out into the open camp. She looked around expectantly, knowing this day was for her.

Once his granddaughter had emerged into the clearing, Leopardclaw lifted his head and called out; "Today it is time for one of our young to take her first step into the life of a warrior. Wrenkit, step forward."  Gazing down with a faint smile, he waited until the small she-cat had made her way to the front of the clearing before starting the ceremony.  “Wrenkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed.  From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Wrenpaw.  Your mentor will be Dustcloud. I hope she passes down all she knows on to you.”

Wrenpaw nodded her head in appreciation to Leopardclaw, and then turned to search through the cats who had joined to listen. She looked for Dustcloud to step forward, so that she could greet her new mentor. Only for a moment did her eyes flicker to her mother and wish for more time to be spent in the nursery next to her. 'Oh well, I guess I had to go off to the apprentice den sometime', she thought bitter-sweetly.

dustcloud emerged from the crowd, a nearly blank face, if it weren't for the slight smile that she managed for the young apprentice. She walked up to the small cat, and touched noses with her gently. "I'll tr-train you to th-the best of m-my ability. B-Be sure to sl-sleep well t-tonight, training start's t-t-tomorrow." With that, she headed towards the entrance to camp, hoping to get in a good hunt before the sun went down.
