Day's Speckled Fox (closed)

Daylight padded into the forest to hunt. It had been a couple of moons since he was hit by a monster and got scars all over his chest. He sighed and flicked his tail as he padded to a spot he knew was bountiful with prey.

Kill.. Must kill.. Was the foxes only thought. Since the forest had been burned the fox had a harder time finding food. She had four hungry mouths to feed and needed soemthing a little bigger in order to feed her kits. She sniffed the ground in order to look for a scent and smelled the strong scent of a cat, and milk. The fox immediately started to head towards it, hoping to find an easy and nurturing meal for her kits. She saw the large she cat and stalked it through what was left of the undergrowth, waiting for a moment to pounce.

Specklefang slunk through the undergrowth, her heavy paws feeling heavier than they usually did. Specklefang had left camp to clear her head, she had felt sluggish and irritated, even territorial towards her clan-mates. The young she-cat felt weighed down, though it was more physical this time around. The she-cat stopped to taste the air, but finding nothing out of the ordinary kept her pace... until she heard the underbrush move.

Claws unsheathing Specklefang looked towards it, shifting her body so she could see better with her good eye she tasted the air once more, the stench of fox strong now. Hissing into the undergrowth, the she-cat gave a warning, her belly feeling like it was squirming and tightening. What was wrong with her? But right now that didn't matter, there was a fox in the undergrowth and she had to fend it off, lest it get one of her clan-mates!

Daylight turned to catch a mouse. Smiling in satisfaction as he caught it. He heard rustling in the bushes and thought he heard a faint hiss but she shrugged it off and continued hunting.

The fox watched the she cats movements and suddenly it pounced. The fox surged out of the bushes and landed on the large she cat almost as big as herself. Growling the fox tried to find a mouthhold but only grabbed fur. The fox finally got a hold of the cats tail and bit down clamping her teeth around it and digging her heels into the ground trying to pull it off.

Specklefang roared with rage as the fox struggled to get through her thick fur, but before she could rip into it it had clamped it's jaws into her tail. Screeching Specklefang stumbled before she brought a back-leg up and slammed it into it's muzzle, her heart and head pounding with terror. If that worked, or didn't work, she didn't give it time to decide. Twisting her body she raised a paw and ripped at it, all the while screeching at it.

Daylight raced through the forest as soon as he heard the growling and an enraged cats screeching. "Specklefang!" The warrior yowled launching himself onto the back of the fox and latching his teeth onto its scruff and pulling back.

The fox growled as one cat ripped through its face and let go right as another latching onto his back and grabbed her scruff pulling the fox back away from the pregnant she cat. The fox growled and tried to turn with the cat onto its back snapping at whatever it could get before flinging itself tot he ground and rolling around trying to get the cat off. As soon as the cat let go the fox rounded onto the large she cat again and lundged for her and knocking her to the ground and biting her ear.

Dear Starclan! It was happening again, remembering her last encounter with a fox had her blood boiling. After all, she was blind in one eye because of them! Specklefang was launched into her memories, Daylight shifted to be Leafstorm and she was brought down in an instant, her ear torn to shreds. Spitting Specklefang's legs coiled to hammer into the foxes belly, one of her front paws pushing the fox away by the bottom of its jaw that met it's throat. Her teeth snapped and her other paw tried to heave it off.

Daylight growled and bit down onto of the foxes legs before pulling on it with all he had dragging it off with the help of Specklefang. The tom growled and aimed for its throat but missing and grabbing the area around its eye and biting down.

As the two cats fought the fox to get it off the large she cat the fox suddenly lost its vision in its left ye and flung the tom cat off and rounded on him and pouncing aiming for its throat. The fox clamped down and shook the tom until hot blood filled its mouth and the fox let go founding the tom into a tree. He landed at the bottom and the fox ran off. It followed the scent of the toms preyand dug it up before taking it back to its nest.

Daylight laid there his throat bleeding heavily. "Speckle.. fang.. are you ok..?" He managed to choke out while his eyes with light fading inside them looked on at the queen.

Specklefang stumbled to her paws; her legs shuddering, her tail and back feeling as they were on fire. But before she could leap on the fox, it had Daylight by the throat and- oh no. Specklefang felt sick, she couldn't protect one cat? Specklefang was going to scream and rip into something with grief and anger, but with Daylight dying at her paws she couldn't do it.

"Daylight.. you mouse-brain! I was fine! I'm almost the size of that rotten fox and you just had to go and throw yourself in the fray! Look at what you've done, your idiocy costed you your own life!" She roared, her tail flicking to lash but the pain kept it paralyzed for the most part. Specklefang seemed to take mercy on the tom though, after all he was dying and she couldn't save him. "I'm fine." But it was through gritted teeth that she said this.

"Thunderclan will honor your bravery." She muttered lowly, bending down she tugged a leg over her back and nudged him until she had him on her back. Getting to her paws she padded towards the camp, resent making her pace strong and steady.

Daylight let out a strangled chuckle. "Hey I had to.. try and help.. a fellow clan.. mate.. besides your.. expecting.. kits.. have to pro..ect.. them.." He meowed as he trailed off the light in his eyes going out. Daylight with the last of his breath meowed one last thing. "Promise.. you'll live.. a long.. and happy life.. and raise.. those kits.. to be great.. warriors.." He said before closing his eyes and falling limp.

She was expecting kits? Was she so stupid to not know and notice those signs? It explained everything! Like how she couldn't handle a stupid fox! Specklefang's chest tightened with a flurry of emotions, some she couldn't name or recognize, some she could and it made her blood boil with the strength of it. Why should she promise to another cat that she'd raise her kits well? She didn't know what kind of mother she'd be! But- Daylight was dying and- "Yeah, sure." It was a tone like a petulant kit was speaking, and she wanted to stomp with frustration like one, like the world was being unfair.

She felt Daylight loosen and sag onto her back, a jittery inhale making her eyes tear up. She had to get him back to camp, and let everyone know there was a fox loose in the area and an aggressive one at that. It took a moment for Specklefang to start walking, her legs shuddering with grief. One more dead and injured cat, when will it end?
