enough playing fox and mouse [closed]

"M-Mousefang... Can we talk...?" A voice sounded out, barely above a whisper.

Ever since the Mist had captured her and Mousefang, the usually head-strong she-cat had become cold and quiet. Her sickness had cleared up a few days after the fact but her mind was elsewhere. How... How could she be so stupid?! To be kidnapped by a cloud. She was weak. She could no longer talk as if she were so big and mighty.

Yet Mousefang hadn't left her, even after everything. His last words to her before the fog swept them away still stuck clearly in her head. Foxheart, please come back! I-I need you, Foxheart! The red tabby shivered. They were unsettling but not in an uncomfortable way. She mulled over those words for days, trying to understand just why they sent chills down her back.

It wasn't until earlier that she realised just what effect they had on her. Despite everything she thought she felt towards the tom, his words comforted her. Foxheart needed to know why they made her feel warm and welcome when nothing else really could.

If any other cat had tried to get his attention, Mousefang probably would have ignored them and kept gazing mindlessly off into the darkness. This wasn't any other cat, though. This was Foxheart. His incessant worrying over her health and general well-being apparently hadn't been enough to make her push him away anymore than she already had, although he himself was getting annoyed with his own kit-like attachment to her. Why couldn't he stop thinking about her? Why did he run after her the night they were taken? Of course he knew why... or so he thought.

The small tabby's ears flicked toward her voice before he turned his head to face her. "Yes. Anytime at all." He meowed, voice quiet and still rather hopeless. Things were not the same as before. Their relationship dynamic had changed dramatically. She was far quieter, which was extremely unnerving to the tom who'd only ever known her as loud. She was his rock... his demeaning, mocking rock that reminded him why he had to always try harder. But now she was quiet, and he was not so sure he had a use anymore. Life was going on without them, and all he could do was sit quietly as near to Foxheart as he dared and hope she would be herself again. "Anything for you, Foxheart."
