Now that the owl was on the ground, Sootpaw had a clear shot. Turning away from the owl, he slashed fiercely at it's belly with his back legs. He hoped they could win this battle! It was interesting to him what a day of training had done, he was in awe of Smokestripe, his superior air totally gone.

Smokestripe felt Sootpaw brush against him, the apprentice slashing out at the owl giving the opening that Smokestripe was providing. The tom kept his claws sunk deep into the owl's wings, pinning it as he fought against its violent twists in any effort to get free. But as the two cats tore away at it with their claws, the fighting started to get weaker and weaker. It was clear the owl was on the losing end of this fight and was running out of strength to fight back.

Wild Owl is stunned and unable to attack.

Smokestripe continues uses Leap-and-hold on the owl, dealing 11 damage and costing 10 stamina. The owl is stunned for 1 more turn.

OOC: SP and HP is automatically filled at the start of every topic, no need for regenerating it by being forced to do a topic with the Medicine cat (but of course making the MC feel wanted is nice). There is no way to 'regen' it in combat other then if a Medicine cat is presence in the fight, they can spend their turning healing a cat who isn't actively in combat and giving them HP back.

Sootpaw was breathing heavy by the time he noticed the owl was weakening. To tired to do anything else, he realized that being an apprentice was hard work! He grit his teeth, determined. It wasn't playtime anymore. He was going to be a real clan member, where everyone mattered, and hunting was noble. Like it was now. And with that, he swatted the owl one more time, claws sheathed, across it's face.

With Sootpaw's final blow, the owl ceased its struggle and grew limp. Smokestripe sighed in relief as he stepped away, his injuries a simple stinging annoyance as adrenaline pumped through his body. "Good work," he purred faintly, giving his body a faint shake causing droplets of blood to scatter the ground around him. At the sight of his own blood, Smokestripe's ears fell flat on his head before he cleared his throat. "I...I think I am going to call our training done for today," he said as he focused on the apprentice before him, flashing him a sheepish look.

Sootpaw panted heavily as Smokestripe called their training done. He shook his head. Hours ago, he was simply a kit, and now... Looking up at Smokestripe he asked nervously, "Do...do we bring it back into camp?" He had no idea if clans even ate owls, but he almost wanted to show the clan, show them him and Smokestripe bravery. Well, Smokestripe's. He hardly did much, and was incredibly proud of his mentor.

"Yeah, we need to bring it back. We need all the prey that we can get," the warrior noted as he gently prodded the dead owl. He glanced down at the frog he had caught, pushing it toward his apprentice and the toad that Sootpaw had killed himself. "Do you think you can carry my frog along with your toad? I'll carry the owl back," he said as he leaned down, gripping the owl's wings as he padded around Sootpaw, dragging the corpse of the bird of prey after him as he started to make his way toward the ShadowClan camp.

Sootpaw nodded, still in shock from the event that had just occurred. Grabbing the frog and toad in his mouth, he started following his mentor back the path to camp.

Smokestripe glanced over his shoulder at his apprentice as he dragged the rather large carcass, his ears falling flat on his head. He cleared his throat the best he could behind his mouthful of feathers, trying not to swallow one. "I...I'm sorry for how our first training session turned out," he mumbled the best he could, pausing to cough as a feather threaten to get stuck in his mouth. He wasn't sure what to make of what had happened. Being attacked by an animal like that on their first trip out of the camp...His shoulders sagged, feeling disappointed in himself despite having no control for how things went.

Sootpaw shook his head and mewed, "It would've happened anyway. Well, something would've. And look on the bright side. I got a hunting lesson, and fighting experience, all on one day! And once again, sorry about hunting earlier. It is an honorable task, especially with what we just did." As he said this he flicked his tail towards the owl.

Smokestripe felt himself perk up a little at his apprentice's word, his eyes taking on a gleam. "I-I'm happy to hear that!" he purred through the feathers, all to excited that Sootpaw's view on hunting had been improved even after all that had happened. He was about to say something else when he winched, a stab of pain flashing from his wounds as the adrenaline that flooded his body started to fade and causing him to be painfully aware of the damage he had taken in the short fight. He grimaced past the pain, trying not to let it show as he continued to talk. "We'll do proper battle training once my wounds have healed. Until then...I guess you can brag to the other apprentices about that you killed an owl," he added in a light, teasing tone.

Sootpaw purred, remembering his sister asleep when he left. He couldn't wait to see the look on her face as he walked into camp, Smokestripe and the owl beside him. But then, another thought filled his mind. The thought of his clan mates getting to eat because of the food they hunted, he felt good. What was happening to him? But for once, he was upset that he had even thought that. He was becoming a true warrior. And he was proud of it.

OOC: A topic really just ends when both people decide it. Like here? This is a good stopping point so we can just call the topic here. I'll make another training topic tomorrow or so - just a simple border patrol as you now know how to hunt and fight thanks to that battle encounter.
