Brackenpaw's Assessment ((closed))

Quailfeather padded quietly out of the warriors' den, white tail-tip flicking peacefully. The morning was beautiful. A bright sun peeked out from behind the Highstones, turning the wispy clouds around it ethereal shades of orange, yellow and pink. Though life had been harder on the WindClan warrior since her father had been demoted, the gray flecked she-cat had slowly come to terms with it. Though she still didn't entirely understand why it had happened, the sorrowful occurrence no longer bothered her. Thankfully, Clan life went on. Ashstar had asked her to take care of Brackenpaw's assessment, so here she was, waiting for the tom. He'd come out if the apprentices' den soon.

Brackenpaw scurried out of the den; he wanted to hunt as hard as he could to prove his worth to the clan, so that he may become a warrior soon. Just as he looked back to his nest, he ran slam int Quailfeather, who was to give him his assessment today, although he did not know it."I-I'm sorry. I'll move along out of your way." He said, and he shuffled to the side and continued before she could say anything else.'I'm such a clumsy goof!

Quailfeather smiled when she saw the apprentice rush out of the den. About time. The gray flecked she-cat flicked her white tail-tip in amusement as he bumped into her. "Don't worry, Brackenpaw," she purred lightheartedly. He reminded her of herself as an apprentice, Quailpaw. Now, those had been good days. "All right. I need you to catch me three pieces of prey. I'll be watching you from a distance, all right? Now go on!"

"My assessment!? Thanks, Quailfeather!" He rushed off, chasing after the first scent of prey he could find. He followed the scent of the nearest rabbit he could find. He locked onto it, watching each little movement. Until- BOOM! He pounced on it, catching. He crushed it in his jaw, saying a quick prayer to Starclan for the prey. He then buried it, moving on.

Quailfeather watched approvingly as Brackenpaw caught a rabbit. One piece of prey down, two more to go.

Brackenpaw moved along, soon scenting a hare. He slowly traced it, eventually finding it. As soon as he locked onot it, he leaped from his spot on the forest floor, grasping it in his firm jaw. Snap! He buried the prey, smiling.

Quailfeather nodded approvingly at the apprentice's success. One piece of prey left, then shed tell Ashstar to make him a warrior. It certainly seemed he had earned it.

Brackenpaw had one more piece of prey to catch before warriorhood. He sniffed out the nearest hare, chasing it down carefully. Spotting it, he leaped. But this hare had other plans. It squirmed, unlike the other, slashing at his face. He bit down hard, finally feeling it go limp. He went to dig up the rest of his prey proudly.
