Thistlepaw's Assessment [closed]

Smokpelt sat by the freshkill pile, waiting for someone to join him for a patrol. It was kind of a random patrol, but any patrol was a good source of time instead of sitting around the camp doing nothing, right? Closing his eyes, the senior warrior let out a content sigh, enjoying the warm sun on his pelt and how peaceful the day had been. I wish everyday could be like this.

Thistlepaw woke late that morning, and as he stood up and padded away from the corner of camp, he noticed his father and mentor, Smokepelt. The apprentice smiled, is he going on for a patrol? Perhaps I should join, it would be nice getting out of the camp, and since I woke up late, going on a patrol would make me look a bit better.

The grey tabby padded up to the deputy, and dipped his head in greeting. "Going on a patrol?" He questioned.

Smokepelt nodded in greeting. "Yes. In fact, how about we go on a patrol, just the two of us?" The tom hadn't spent much time with his adopted son and hoped that this would be a good opportunity to do so.

Thistlepaw flicked his tail, happy to hear his mentor and father say that. "That sounds good actually!" He said enthusiastically, "where do you plan on going?" He asked, wanting to know ahead of time.

Standing up from where he sat, the grey and white tom gave his pelt a shake. "I was thinking of going heading towards the gorge to patrol around that area and then do some hunting," he replied and started making his way towards the camp entrance. Upon reaching the entrance, something that had totally slipped his mind hit him like a blow from a paw. Turning around, he looked to his apprentice and titled his head. "You're due for your assessment, right?" he asked, some what embarrassed that he'd forgotten about his own son's assessment.

Thistlepaw paused mid step, Smokepelt's question running through his ears. My assessment? He looked up at his father, realizing that it was about that time. "Yes, I'm pretty sure I am." He responded.

Giving a nod that he turned around and started padding towards the gorge, still embarrassed that he'd forgotten. Letting out a soft hiss of annoyance at himself, the two cats made there way to the gorge. Slowing to a stop, he looked to the apprentice. "Tell me what you know about the gorge and the clan on the other side of it," the tom meowed in his usual soft voice.

Thistlepaw stopped walking as Smokepelt did, his eyes widened at the question being asked, but he knew enough about the gorge, perhaps it was simply nervousness that kept him from thinking straight.

"Well, the gorge, you shouldn't get too close to the edge, or you could fall in." The older apprentice took a breath, not enjoying the thought of falling all that way into an endless current of rapids. "And for the clan on the other side? That's RiverClan, their leader is Fishstar if I've heard correctly, they're the only ones that really enjoy swimming, and the taste of fish." He held back a gag at the thought of eating one of those slimy, scaly creatures, he would never understand why RiverClan cats liked them.

Glad to see that Thistlepaw knew a good amount of information about the Gorge and RiverClan, he decided they better keep moving. "Good job, let's head to the Thunderpath now," he meowed, turning around. Not long after they left the gorge, the two made there way to the Thunderpath. It was Smokepelt's least favorite place because of what happened to his father, but it needed to be patrolled. "Tell me what you know about the Thunderpath."

Easily. "It's dangerous." He replied in almost an instant, that was easy, but he would need to tell more about it if he wanted to impress his father. He strained his eyes, noticing the high stones off in the distance. "Look both ways before crossing, the monsters won't stop if you step in front of them." Thistlepaw had never crossed the thunderpath, and he didn't look forward to it.

Smokepelt nodded as Thistlepaw spoke. "And what about the clan that lives on the other side?" he meowed, still furious at the ShadowClan cat who injured Lightfoot. he'd never forgive them, not now, not ever.

He paused, the other clan's territory, it wasn't directly across, but diagonal? That's how he remembered, "Shadowclan, right?" He confirmed, hoping he was right.

"Good," the tom meowed. "It seems as though you are pretty knowledgeable about other clans, so how about we hunt now?" Smokepelt added, turning around and starting to make his way towards the center of WindClan's territory where the prey was most abundant.

Good, hunting is what I was looking forward to! The tom thought excitedly, turning with his mentor and following him through the open moor.

Making their way to the moor, Smokepelt looked to his adopted son with a smile. "Last cat to the top of that hill his a piece of mousedung!" he meowed and ran full speed towards a hill that sat in the center-ish of the territory. He was definitely one of the faster cats in WindClan and letting his legs take him as fast as they could felt amazing. The wind in his fur, the scents of prey, he wished life could always be the wonderful.
