Let's go catch some rabbits! (Open Patrol)

When they finally came to a stand-still at the top of the grassy hill, the grey tom took a few steps forward to inhale the untainted air that breezed past them. The sweeping winds that was their clan's namesake carried with them many scents, though most were stale. There was hints of dampness coming from beyond the Thunderpath, but he chose not to comment on it, unsure of what on earth it was. Instead, he narrowed down on the fresher scents. "A patrol went through here today. And also a prey species, I can't tell if it's a rabbit or a hare. Mouse droppings too."

Quailfeather smiled at her apprentice after checking the air to see how much he'd gotten right. "Great job, Icepaw. For your information, what you're smelling is a rabbit. Rabbits smell more grassy, while hares have a distinctly musky scent. There's also an underlying scent under the mouse droppings that says they're very fresh. But that will all come in time." The gray speckled she-cat dropped down into a hunting crouch, ready to pounce or run, tail flat out against the ground. "Show me your hunting crouch, Icepaw."

He nodded as he listened, green eyes focused on his mentor unwaveringly as he memorised all that information. Icepaw refused to fall behind, he wanted to be the best, to bring pride to his father for siring such a fine son. So when Quailfeather dropped into a crouch, he followed suit, pressing his belly against the earth and only lifting up his haunches enough so he could spring on something effectively. As for his forepaws, he didn't quite know where to place them, but he imitated her to the best of his abilities.

Silentstrike followed behind the rather large group, sticking behind to make sure none of the apprentices wandered. "Laurelpaw, anything you need to brush up on?" He asked politely, trotting up to her.

For a moment Laurelpaw watched as Icepaw was trained by her mother, before loosing interest and gazing around at the moorland with wide, excited eyes.  She wanted to find something to hunt, preferably a hare.  She had gotten pretty good at hunting, but she wanted to make sure she was doing everything right.  "Hmm...I can't think of anything specifically..."  Turning her gaze away from her dad, she gazed around quickly with perked ears, looking and listening for any prey nearby.  Padding a little bit away from the rest of the group - she didn't want to chase a rabbit into the middle of the training session - she continued to look around, her paws falling lightly on the grassy earth.  

Suddenly, a sound came to her ears; scratching from inside a nearby rabbit hole.  Eyes narrowing, Laurelpaw carefully positioned herself adjacent to the entrance, waiting for the quick creature to emerge. It took a few minutes, and the white she-cat began to grow impatient. Shuffling her paws in the dirt, she let her guard down a bit and wasn't totally prepared when the rabbit finally exited it's den. Leaping to her paws, she tried to pin the animal right from the get-go, but it had too much of a warning and took off. Growling, the lithe she-cat began a chase, that she quickly won. Sinking her fangs into the rabbit's throat, she carried it back proudly to where her father - and mentor - was waiting.
