Cloudpaw's (and Stonepaw's) Hunting Training [Closed]

Lionspark sat at the entrance of the warriors den, a bit of guilt in her stomach as she waited for her apprentice. She...Didn't want to admit it but she had somewhat started to slack in Cloudpaw's training. When Bramblefrost had revealed that he...Well, he liked her, the simple bliss of that thought had clouded her judgement and now she was doing to do her best to finish Cloudpaw's training. There was a gentle sigh as she glanced up at the sky, her tail curled around her paws. She was going to go over Cloudpaw's hunting today as she had hopes of doing her assessment soon...With any hope, Cloudpaw would be a warrior before she knew it.

Cloudpaw padded out, her brother following. "Stonepaw was uh wondering if he can come. Can he?" The she cat asked shyly.

Lionspark blinked in surprise when she saw not only Cloudpaw leave the apprentice den but her brother sticking close. As her apprentice asked if her brother could join, the warrior simply nodded her head. "Yeah, come along you two," she said with a purr as she spun and lead them into the territory.

Cloudpaw and Stonepaw followed.

It didn't take long until Lionspark had lead the two siblings to a small clearing - a clearing just perfect for their lessons today. She tasted the air, taking in the sweet smell of lingering prey before she turned to face the two of them with a small nod. "Today we are doing hunting training. I want to see where your hunting abilities are at and see what we can do from them, alright?" she said with a purr. "I want you two to drop into your best hunting crouch and we will start from there."

The two siblings nodded and both got into a hunting crouch. Stonepaw's was better than Cloudpaw's but he just gave her an encouraging smile.

Lionspark watched as the two of them dropped into their crouches, noting that Stonepaw had the better one of the two. She wasn't all that surprised - Bramblefrost was a pretty good mentor. She studied the two of them, unsure of how exactly to correct Cloudpaw's stances but decided that simply testing out their hunting abilities could perhaps made it clear of where they could approve. "Good! Now watch me, I am going to catch something..." Or at least try she noted in her mind. "And after I am done, I want you two to give it a go. We can go on from there," she stated before she tasted the air once more, turning as she located a squirrel nibbling away at a  nut at the base of a tree. Dropping into her own crouch, she stalked forward toward the small creature before making a leap. The squirrel didn't have a chance as she landed on it, killing it with a swift blow before she looked up at the two apprentices and gave them a small nod - a signal for them to give it a go.

OOC: Alright, hunting system time! I'm copying and pasting this from a previous training. The hunting system isn't a very complex thing to use luckily. I am sure you have seen the topic that outlines how to use it and whatnot seeing how it used to be a global announcement but now it can only be found in the Rule section of the site. But here is a link to the topic.

The hunting system uses the dice system, which can be found when previewing a topic. Upon hitting preview, underneath where you make changes to the post is a Dices Rolls feature. There are drop down tabs, Dice Rolls #1 and Dice rolls. For the Dice rolls, don't bother with it. The current hunting system only uses a single dice but you will need to change the Dices rolls #1 to hunting dice which rolls a ten-sided dice. (Well, I suppose you will have to roll two dice in this topic for both Cloud and Stone. Just have the first number rolled be for Cloud while the second one is for Stone)

When posted, a new post will be added which will state what you have rolled. That answer decides if you have caught something or not. On the Hunting System topic, there is a list of all of the prey we can hunt (with mice falling under rodent). Each Clan has a success roll with each, so that certain Clans are only good at hunting certain prey with you getting to decide what you hunt. For example, lets say that I end up rolling a 6 while hunting hares. If I was a WindClan cat, I would succeed as I need an 8 or below to catch it. But if I was in any other Clan, I would fail as I need a 1 to catch a hare. After you roll your dice and figure out if you caught it, you simply need to go back and edit your post to reflect if you succeed or failed.

If you end up rolling a 10, you have found yourself in an encounter. You have decide what attacks you and you are tasked with defeating it (with the help of others of course.) Luckily, because the fact we can pick what we find, we can make it easy for yourself or hard but you must do an encounter if you roll a 10. The encounter also can be driven off it knocked down to half HP.

Also the hunting system is not always needed for hunting topics but it must be used for assessments.

Cloudpaw nodded and scented the air and found a mouse carefully and quietly she got into her crouch and crept forward, before pouncing on the mouse, and biting it neck before it could utter a sound.

Stonepaw followed Cloudpaw and scented the air, catching the scent of a vole the ginger tom got into his crouch and moved forward until he was close enough to pounce. Then he pounced, killing the vole with a swift but powerful bite to the head. Seeing as Cloudpaw did it quickly but not quite as powerful as him because he knew she didn't like killing, not even prey and gave her an encouraging smile.

"Perfect!" Lionspark cheered before picking up her squirrel and moved over to where the two, pleased that they had both managed to catch their prey. This was good - even if Cloudpaw's hunting crouch wasn't perfect it didn't seem to damper her ability to hunt. Perhaps the stance was simply one that she found more comfortable and helpful - every cat had their own strengths and weakness after all. She dropped the squirrel at the base of a nearby tree before focusing on the two apprentices. "Lets keep hunting for a bit longer, alright? Lets each try to catch three each before we head back to the camp." Three each, nine pieces of prey total. They would be able to make a small freshkill pile of their own with those numbers! She turned and dropped into a crouch as she tasted the air. She caught the hint of a bird - a robin to be exact as she started to stalk forward. It took a short while but she finally located the bird, sitting on the exposed roots of a tree as it sang quietly into the air. Her eyes narrowed as she shook her rump before leaping. The bird's song ended quickly as it spotted the leaping warrior, flapping it wings as it took into the air swiftly and left Lionspark with empty paws. The older warrior cursed lightly under her breath as she watched the robin disappear before turning to look for another piece of prey.

Cloudpaw scented the air. She saw a squirrel and got into a crouch. She stalked forward and pounced and bit it's neck.

Stonepaw scented the air and saw a thrush. Getting into a crouch and stalking forward, keeping the weight off his paws and in his haunches he pounced, snapping it's neck.

While disappointed about her failure to catch the robin, she shook her head as she tasted the air. Her eyes glimmered as she caught the scent of a mouse. Dropping into another crouch, she pulled herself forward quietly along the forest floor until she saw it sitting wide in the open. Determined not to miss this prey, she drew herself forward just slightly before she prepared herself for the leap. She had failed to miss it - the signs of something in the tree tops as she leaped. The mouse suddenly was alert, darting away as she landed once more empty pawed. She hissed in annoyance before her ears flickered, becoming aware of a shadow. "What the...?" she muttered under her breath as she looked up, only to see feathers as a talon raked across her face. She yowled in surprise and pain as the body of the bird flew into her, sending them both crashing onto the forest floor. Flapping wings struck at her body as she twisted to free herself, lashing out with her back claws at her opponent. The creature - an owl - disengaged itself as feathers and blood littered the forest floor and Lionspark pulled herself to her paws with a hiss.

Wild Owl uses Talon Strike on Lionspark, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Lionspark uses Belly Rake on the wild owl, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina.
