A Simple White Patrol [Closed]

Amberpelt was relaxing right outside of the camp entrance, her head raised just slightly as she let the sunlight warm her long, sleek fur. She was waiting for her apprentice, planning to give them a hunting lesson and perhaps see how well they fared with water. While most RiverClanners felt at home in it she was well aware of a tales of Dry-Paws, RiverClan cats that feared the water or simply didn't know how to swim. But while she waited, she allowed herself to bask in the sunlight. Leaf-bare would be ending soon and warmer weather would be on its way. She was lucky that the ice had melted enough to allow for some proper fish hunting but perhaps she would also give Whitepaw a lesson on hunting prey on land...Even if they were far from as tasty as a fish.

OOC: I will be upfront about this, we do not need to use the hunting dice if you don't want to do so. Seeing how your first attempt to use them ended in a badger attack, if you want to simply RP catching/missing prey with no dice, I am cool with that. But if you want to try to have another go at the hunting dice, I will be cool with that as well.

Whitepaw followed her mentor Amberpelt. She was anxious, because she would be hunting very soon. If she would caught something, clan would got her prey and she would be very proud. She would be very useful, if she would caught something. She-cat walked along with Amberpelt and looked her looking for some more instructions; like, where could she hunted, what could she caught and so on. There were still big pieces of ice on the river, so she was a little scared, that something could happen.

OOC: I will use a roll dice and hope that I will have more luck.

"Today we are going to be hunting," she said as she led Whitepaw toward the river that marked their border with ThunderClan. Her pawsteps were light, barely making a sound as she kept her ears perked and her mouth open for any scent of prey. "We are going to start with some fish hunting before teaching you how to hunt on land. We normally wouldn't go for land prey but in leaf-bare when the river is frozen, we don't have much choice." She was excited to see how well Whitepaw could catch fish - a skill that RiverClan had perfected while the other Clans lacked the ability and timing to pull it off themselves.

Whitepaw noded and followed, she listened with one ear, with another she listened to the growing sound of river and softness. She was excited and ready for all duties and adventures which may happened. She only hoped that she wouldn¨t met some dangerous outlaws or other animals, when she will be hunting alone.

Finally, they reached it. The river that separated RiverClan from ThunderClan. They weren't that far from the stepping stones that served as the only real way for ThunderClan to ever invade and while there was chucks of ice that had yet to melt, the river for the most part was melted. Perfect for the lesson today. Amberpelt crouched next to the river, positioning herself just so that her shadow didn't fall across the blue surface as she gazed at it for any traces of fish beneath it. Upon seeing some fish, she turned to look at Whitepaw as she flickered her tail at the empty spot next to her. "Come over here," she ordered quietly, her eyes gleaming. "But be careful not to let your shadow fall across the water - it will alert the fish to our presence."

Whitepaw noded and slowly followed Amberpelt to empty spot next to mentor. She was a little scared of river, because many cats died when they fell in the deadly water, which flows foward without stoping and letting prisoner escape. She took a good look of fish, which could be seen in a river. It was perfect time for river hunting.

Failing to catch Whitepaw's hesitation to join her, Amberpelt let her gaze fall onto the river as she took a deep breath. "RiverClan is known for a few things. One of our more important traits is that we, unlike the other Clans, know how to swim but also know how to catch fish." She dipped her head toward the water, seeing a shadow of a fish starting to draw close to the two cats. "Always being mindful of your shadow when hunting is important as the fish will flee if they see our shadows on the water's surface. As for hunting itself, you need to be mindful of where they are. The water tends to distort our view of the fish - they aren't always where they seem to be and is something we need to keep in mind. When you see a fish in your reach, you must react swiftly. Reach it and try to let its scales brush your paw. Once you feel those scales, you simply need to swipe them out of the water and onto the surface where you can easily kill them." She paused after her large explanation, seeing the fish had finally come in range. In a quick movement, she dove her paw into the water. She felt the scales brush against her paws but the fish must of panicked as it suddenly darted away in a burst of speed before she could pull it to the surface. She frowned as she pulled her paw from the water, shaking her head in annoyance before glancing at Whitepaw. "How about you give it a try?"

OOC: This is like normal hunting, however because RiverClan's territory doesn't have a encounter die for fish...I am just going to say that we should only roll the 'chance of catch' die as we are only looking for fish. So...Yeah, just roll a single die to see if you catch it while you are looking fish hunting. Which means no change of a fox attack for now. Yay.

Whitepaw was tensed. Amberpelt caught fish with elegance and she did this very quick. Now was her apprentice´s turn. What if she fail?
She steped into the water and began to look for a fish. She was trying to find a glimpse of silver on the water. She waited and thought that Amberpelt attacked scared all fish. But then something happened. There was a glimpse. Silver glimpse!
She tried to throw a fish out of a river, but she failed.
Whitepaw looked to her mentor with dissapointment.

OCC: 10 si for failure, am I right? And I must ignore first number?

Amberpaw smiled softly at she watched her apprentice miss. She couldn't blame Whitepaw - it was their first time as she gently touched her tail to her apprentice's shoulder. "Do you want to give it another try? Here, watch me." Hoping to catch something this time, she focused her gaze on the river before seeing a fish draw closer, shooting her paw in in another attempt to catch something. As she felt the scales brush against her paw, she reacted faster as she threw it onto the land next to her before killing it with a bite. She glanced over at Whitepaw. "Now try catching something again."

OOC: SO. The hunting system was just updated as of this post so I suppose I should explain how we use this. For this hunting system, you only one a single dice now instead of the two as we get to choose what we hunt. Here is the new hunting system. I'll do my best to explain it.

We are now able to choose what we can catch and depending on our Clan, it decides what dice roll will catch it. For example, for Fish, as a RiverClan cat we will almost always catch it with a roll of 1-9 being a catch while for ThunderClan, its a 1-2 while every other Clan has a 0 catch rate for fish.

For the battle encounter...Its now a 10 to encounter instead of a 1 but we also get to choose what we fight. I'll see if I have to go more in-depths when we are land hunting.

Whitepaw noded and had another try. She steped into the water and then waited for the water to calm down. When fish started to move again near her, she decided which poor creature will she snap out of a river. She decided for the fat silver fish, which swam very slowly and near to her. She slowly prepared her paw for snaping. Then without hesitating she snaped. Fish was out of water and her only chance was to kill it. She jumped out of a water and kill it.

Amberpelt smiled as Whitepaw managed to catch the fish this time and killed it easily. "Good!" she praised with a purr, getting to her paws. "Now come along, its time to do some land hunting." There was a tone of distaste in those words as she disliked hunting prey like the other Clans but in the harsh of Leaf-bare, sometimes it was the only choice. She leaned down to pick up the fish she had killed before flickering her tail, leading Whitepaw away from the river.

OOC: You must have put the Dice Rolls as 2. As we only roll one dice now, you simply want to leave it as 1 like it normally is.
