Halfpaw's Assessment [for Acrylic]

Halfpaw gasped in shock as the owl attacked again. She was actually really tired of tasting the bird's dark feathers every time she attacked it. However, her sharp teeth went straight for the owl's neck. In return, the large bird, furiously flapped it's wings, bucking around in attempts to shake Halfpaw off, and the apprentice did let go after she felt blood begin to well in her jaws. It tasted...sour and gross. The owl was shaking, but it's sharp yellow eyes glared at Blacktwig and Halfpaw, before it sank it's talon into the dirt, and collapsed on the ground, dead. Blood welled out of the wound and it's eyes were shut tight. It's wings were sprawled out messily beside it.

Halfpaw used Killing Bite on Owl. Dealing (Death) and costing 10 SP.

Blacktwig purred with approval, but he then noticed Halfpaw's wounds. They were slashed onto her pelt, and bled horribly. The owl was dead; he could be certain of that, but a curtain of fear washed over Blacktwig's orbs as he walked up to Halfpaw. He had his own, messy injuries, but he had suffered less damage than the young tortoiseshell. "Halfpaw, are you alright?" he asked. He'd hate to call off Halfpaw's assessment, but she was hurt.

Blacktwig strained his ears for his niece's response, edging his weight underneath her. Their pelts mixed, like one whole. He looked up at Halfpaw, who's amber eyes were as stunningly beautiful as ever, and her long fur reminded him completely of Dapplecloud, the apprentice's mother. He counted that one fight as the pieces of prey that Halfpaw didn't catch.

The apprentice's ears flicked and she looked over at her mentor and uncle with a weary smile. She would not let her assessment be postponed, just because some stupid owl got in the way. The wounds did hurt...a lot...and she would hate for it to open up even more, but her ambition to finally become a warrior got in the way of all her more important concerns.
"Y-yes, I'm fine! I want to continue my assessment, Blacktwig. Please? I've been wanting to be a warrior for so long now." The apprentice said. With luck, she wouldn't encounter anymore owls, and just normal prey.

With a bit of help from Blacktwig, she managed to stand up fully, giving her long fur a shake, and looking over at Blacktwig, with a determined nod.

"No need." Blacktwig said, unexpectedly. He knew what a true warrior was - this, this was a true warrior. "You've passed. Smiting that owl was very brave. It was something I know a true warrior could do - Halfpaw, you don't need to catch prey to be a noble warrior." Blacktwig took a deep breath. He didn't know if Halfpaw would disapprove of his venturing words, but he hoped that she wouldn't. He sat down on his haunches, studying the tortoiseshell she-cat.

"You've passed, Halfpaw," he mewed with joy.

Halfpaw's amber eyes brightened, and it was quite the challenge to hide in her excitement and try and handle this maturely. The tortoiseshell apprentce grinned, "Thank you so much, Blacktwig!"
And now she could finally be a warrior! All her disappointment at not catching three pieces of prey had vanished instantly.

"No problem!" Blacktwig chirped in response. Halfpaw had shown so much effort to get to this position, and finally, her dream of becoming a warrior would come true. "I'll talk to Darkstar about your ceremony," he said, with a nod of approval. He nuzzled his niece, so glad that his training had finally paid off. Halfpaw was an excellent cat, and she deserved the title, even though she had some erring qualities. That was fine; every cat had them. Even when Halfpaw fled, Blacktwig knew she would become a warrior. Within a span of the next days, that would become a reality.
