Breezepaw's Assessment [[Closed for Ashy]]

Fawnsplash padded over to the apprentices den and poked her head in, "Breezepaw! Get up, we're going out!" She meowed in a somewhat loud whisper. She back her head out and sat down near the entrance as she waited for him to get up. She was excited for today because it was time for Breezepaw's assessment. He had grown into a great apprentice and she knew he'd do well and be a great warrior. She was proud of him and her gaze could tell anyone that as it shone in pride and excitement. Her tail tip flicked as her gaze was fixed on the entrance, waiting for him to emerge.

Breezepaw padded out calmly. He was very ready for his assessment. He had been training every spare hour he had, and he was ready to impress Fawnsplash, and his father. "Coming, Fawnsplash," he meowed easily.

Fawnsplash nodded to her apprentice when he joined her at the entrance. "Alright lets go." She meowed before turning around and heading out into the territory. They padded quietly trough the forest until finally she stopped and turned to face Breezepaw. "Okay. Today you will be doing your assessment." She meowed, smiling. "I want you to catch a thrush, a squirrel, and a mouse before sunhigh. I'll be watching you the whole time, even if you cant see me." She meowed, pausing, before smiling again. "I know you'll do well. You've turned into a great apprentice." She meowed before turning around and padding away. "You may begin." She meowed over her shoulder before disappearing behind the brush.

Breezepaw nodded as his mentor walked away. He sat down silently and pricked his ears, scenting the air for prey. Almost immediately, he smelled a squirrel. It was a few paces to his left, in a thorn bush. The gray tabby tom instinctively dropped into a hunting crouch and stalked towards the prey, tail an inch above the ground, managing not to crunch any of the colorful leaves beneath his feet. He pounced on the squirrel, killing it with a quick bite, and buried it under the bush. Then he resumed his still listening position. In the same way as the squirrel, he caught and buried a plump mouse. But when he found the thrush, he saw that it was high up above him in a birch tree. Squaring his shoulders and stepping back a few paces, he ran up the tree, scaring away a bluebird on the same branch. Luckily, the thrush remained oblivious. He leaped from branch to branch as lightly as he could, regretting the mouse he had eaten last night, occasionally shaking off leaves. Yet he managed to stay quiet enough to stay unnoticed. Finally he jumped to the branch with the dusky brown thrush, catching it under his claws in the same swift movement. Silently thanking StarClan, he put the prey in his mouth and scampered down the tree before going over to the thorn bush and uncovering the other fresh-kill and carrying it back to where he knew Fawnsplash was waiting. A warm glow rose in his chest. He was going to be a warrior!

Fawnsplash watched from the trees as her apprentice caught what she had asked him to pretty efficiently. She smiled proudly as he caught the last one, a thrush, and climbed down to start padding her way to where they were supposed to meet. When he joined her she looked at him, "Great job Breezepaw. Go ahead and add your prey to the fresh-kill pile and get some rest. I'll let Crowstar know your ready for your ceremony." She purred proudly before turning and making her way back to camp.

Nodding happily, Breezepaw gathered the prey in his mouth and followed his mentor to camp. Maybe his father would do his ceremony! Maybe his father would be proud of him!
