Sunpaw's Assessment

Jayflight made his way around the warriors sleeping in the warriors den, he was going to wake up Sunpaw for another assessment with another apprentice. He cleared his throught and poked his head into the den, he began to walk in hoping not to bump into any of the apprentices, he knew just what to say and knew since Sunpaw was pretty energized that he'd be ready right away.

Slowly Jayflight pawed and nudged Sunpaw trying to wake him up from sleep.

Sunpaw rolled over, blinking the sleep from his eyes. "W-what...?" he asked drowsily. "Oh, hi Jayflight, are we training today?" 

Jayflight quietly purred and nodded his head, hoping that Sunpaw could see "Would you like a minute?" he asked, sitting up and licking his paws.

Sunpaw got up and stretched, giving himself a quick lick. "I think I'm alright," he mewed, and indicated he was ready.

Jayflight nodded and stood up, he began to walk out, leading Sunpaw with his tail.

Sunpaw followed his mentor, curious to see what they'd be doing. He kept quiet as he padded through the SkyClan camp territory, until they reached their destination.

Jayfight stopped as they reached were he would tell him about the assessment. He sat down "Were gong to be taking your assessment" he mewed "Do you know what to do?" he asked, always quizzing his apprentices.

Sunpaw froze for a second. His assessment? This was big. "I go hunting, right?" he said, trying to sound confident. "And you watch how well I do."

Jayflight nodded, but shook his head "Hear" he corrected, purring. He stood up "You will be catching two birds, one from a tree. Three rabbits, and one vole" he mewed, challenging him a bit. He moved his head down towards Sunpaw "Do you need more work, or are you good?" he asked, a big smile appearing.

Sunpaw nodded, again, and smiled back, trying not to show how daunting the task seemed to him. Well, at least it wasn't fighting, which he was foxdung at. He'd found that hunting was one of his few talents, or, at least he thought he had few.

"I'll start now," he mewed, and set off.

He scented for prey. There was a mouse not far off, and from what he could tell, a few birds and rabbits. He ignored the mouse for now, and padded off in the direction of the rabbits, taking extra care not to mate a sound, knowing how good their hearing was. As he approached a fluffy brown one, he crouched into the hunting pose and sprang on it, finishing it off with his jaws. He noted how he didn't fall over like the first time, feeling proud he'd improved. He buried it under the shade of a particular tree, as Nettletail had taught him on patrol, and took note of the scent and location. He continued in this fashion, finding and killing two more rabbits nearby.

Jayflight leaped onto a branch from a nearby tree, following his apprentice. He nodded as he caught brown rabbit, he heard the squeal, knowing he had finished.

Sunpaw, pleased he had gotten three rabbits, padded through the trees, in search of birds or voles. A vole would be tricky, but he'd had lots of practice hunting birds. He saw a small sparrow, standing idly on the ground. He crept up to it, crouched down, and in a sudden flurry, he pounced on the bird. The sparrow flapped it's wings manically, trying to escape, but it was no use as Sunpaw finished it off.

He sat at the base of a tree, scanning it for more birds. There were a few, sitting among its highest branches. Sunpaw climbed the tree, stumbling on a few branches. Foxdung... he thought as the sound of his scuffle caused two birds to be alarmed and fly off. There was still two in the tree, at least. Alright, I can't stuff this up......

Balancing somewhat precariously on the branch, Sunpaw crept up to the bird and swiftly killed it. As he did so, though, he lost his footing for a split second, but pulled himself back up into the branch with no sounds other than a rustle of leaves. He'd caught five of the six pieces of prey he needed to. Time for the vole.

Sunpaw had to look around for a while before he scented one. Even then, it was still a way off, and he had to track it down. As the vole was in his sights, he was tingling with nervousness - he'd never caught one before. He decided to approach it like he would a mouse, but he knew he'd need to be much faster. He sprang onto the vole, shutting his eyes and hoping for the best. He opened them in surprise as he felt a small fluffy thing beneath his paws. I caught it! I caught a vole! Sunpaw beamed, almost forgetting to finish it off until it squirmed in his grip. He quickly killed it, and began to gather up his other prey from underneath the tree.

Jayflight smiled, he waited for his apprentice to call his name so he could bring all the prey back to camp.

Sunpaw brought all the fresh kill he'd caught to his starting spot, and sat down, tail around his paws. " Jayflight, I'm done!" he called out, smiling. For once, he could really say he was proud of himself.

Jayflight hoped down, branch from branch "You did well Sunpaw" he mewed, smiling as he turned his head to the pile of the prey that had been killed.
