Shatteredpaw's Warrior Ceremony

"Let all cats old enough to capture their own prey gather underneath Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" Thrushstar yowled.

Shimmerheart trotted into camp bearing a mouse in her jaws. She heard Thrushstar's call and went to go sit down under the Jaggedrock after dropping the prey in the fresh-kill pile. What was happening now?

The small, scrawny, runt of a cat exited the apprentice's den at Thrushstar's call. Shatteredpaw padded over to the Jaggedrock and sat down a few feet away from Shimmerheart and looked up at his leader with emotionless blue eyes.

Frostwhisper left the nursery when she heard her leader's call for a meeting and she found a spot next to her son, Shatteredpaw. A new litter of kits was on their way, making Frostwhisper's belly big and round. She hoped that her son wasn't too upset about her having more kits.

"Tonight we gather to make this apprentice a warrior. Shatteredpaw, please step forward," Thrushtar said, looking down at the apprentice.

Shatteredpaw's icy gaze turned to the ground at the call of his name. He always hated attention, and the whole clan was fixed on him at that moment. The black and white tom stood up and stepped forward anyway, wanting to please his mother and clan instead of sitting there like a coward. However, the shy apprentice kept his eyes locked on the ground, not able to make himself meet the gaze of his leader. It was true that he hadn't spoken one word yet, which was very unusual because cats learned to speak when they were kits. What nobody knew was that Shatteredpaw knew how to speak...he just didn't do it. He had heard his share from the other apprentices making fun of him and calling him mute because he chose not to speak. He didn't care, they could all burn alive and he still wouldn't care.

Frostwhisper swelled out her chest in pride. Her son was becoming a warrior, and as far as the clan knew, her only son was becoming a warrior. She smiled and wondered if Shatteredpaw would finally speak when he had to say i do in response to the leader's next words.

"Shatteredpaw, do you promise to serve and protect this clan, as well as uphold the warrior code, even at the cost of your life?" He asked, watching the apprentice carefully, his voice hard and stern. He was honestly getting tired of asking this question. It didn't make any kind of difference. Each apprentice simply went through the motions. Brokenflame did. Darkstrike did. Long ago, Soulfang did the same as well as several others Thrushstar refused to remember at this moment. Should he really just grace these cats with warrior names after a simple "I do?" He simply waited for Shatteredpaw's answer.
