This unpoisioned lucky ducky (Open)

Patches of grey, ginger, and white could be seen through the reeds and such of Riverclan's territory as Barrenpaw stalked past, sniffing the air for prey. Training with his best buddy and mentor, Troutstep, had been going well and the young apprentice was on his way to becoming a fine warrior. He was starting to develop muscles, which rippled underneath his medium-length fur, unable to be seen because they were hidden by it. His senses were sharpening each day and his abilities to hunt and fight were shaping into perfection. Barrenpaw figured out that he was built more for battle rather than catching prey because of his strong, big paws and his size. He could become clumsy when stalking an animal or chasing one because of his slightly larger feet, but nonetheless he still tried to capture as much fresh kill as he could for the clan. The only thing his paws helped him with in hunting was scooping out fish from the river, but he hadn't had any fishing training yet so that was a downer.

The tom already had captured and killed two mice and a vole, and he was on the lookout for more victims to bring back to camp when he heard paw steps near-by. Barrenpaw had been away from camp all day, so he didn't know about the poisonous watering hole that he had been at the other day and had no clue that some of his clan mates were poisoned by it. Maybe the cat he heard was one of the sick ones, or someone looking for yarrow, or just a random clan member taking a walk or hunting or carrying the news of the sick. He was just lucky that he hadn't drank from the water or even stepped foot in it, for that matter.

Troutstep sat in camp, wondering were his apprentice was. He was of no use to his clan mates sitting around, so the tom decided to find Barrenpaw. Walking out of camp, he could hear some sick clan members, coughing. I hope Barrenpaw... his thoughts were suddenly filled with panic. Does he know about the water was if he drank it?! Troutstep started running. "Barrenpaw!" he meowed, trying to find a scent. But only the stench of poisoned death, filled the air.

Willowpaw padded through Riverclan territory making her way to Twoleg place to ask her father for help. Then she heard voices and paw steps. She started to go back but stepped on a twig and kept going swiftly walking past her denmate and brother she ducked behind some reeds hoping they didn't see her. The diluted gray and black calico remember how her brother, Troutstep, and her denmate, Barrenpaw, were best buddies.

The tom's ears pricked at the sound of his name. At first, he though for sure that it had been only in his imagination, but the more he thought about the voice, the more he realized that it was Troutstep's and it sounded worried. "Troutstep?" he called back, stopping mid-step with a paw in the air as he looked over his shoulder. When a twig snapped near-by Barrenpaw's heart skipped a beat for he didn't know who had stepped on it. He was in a big clump of reeds and couldn't see much through them besides flashes of a familiar pelt that wasn't his mentor's, but he couldn't make out who it was. "Troutstep, is that you?" he asked as he slowly moved toward the place where someone had stepped on a twig. Something told him it wasn't Troutstep, but it was worth a shot.

Willowpaw slowly crept out the back of the reeds and quickly hid in another set of reeds before the tom could see her. "Phew! That was close." She whispered, and turned back around only to see Barrenpaw's face right in front of her.

Troutstep followed his apprentices voice, hoping he wasn't too late. As he jumped over a thick bush, the warrior saw his apprentice and sister...

"Er um hi.. Just taking a walk and looking for some herbs.." Willowpaw meowed before anyone could ask her where she was going.

"Mhm," Troutstep mumbled. "Don't tell me you're going on a idiodic quest to search for your father too," he said teasingly.

Barrenpaw yelped when he saw that the cat wasn't Troutstep but Willowpaw. He stepped back with mouth open in shock, though he wasn't quite sure why he was so surprised to see her. Then, Troutstep appeared, and Barrenpaw finally spoke. "Uh...hi, guys. What's up?" He asked awkwardly.

"I have no idea what sheee is doing here, I was looking for you making sure you were ok," He gave a sigh of relief.

Willowpaws eyes widened as Troutstep said exactly what she was doing, but relaxed when she was realized that he was joking. "Um no I'm never going back to see my father again." She meowed through gritted teeth, still defensive of her father.

A wave of something that seemed like relief mixed with happiness rushed over Barrenpaw at his mentor's reply. He was making sure I was okay...someone cares about me, he thought with a small smile plastered on his face. "Well, I'm okay, Troutstep, but why did you want to make sure I was okay?" The tom asked, confusion suddenly replacing his relief and happiness. He didn't pay attention to what Willowpaw was saying, for he had no clue what the situation with her father was. Barrenpaw didn't really keep up to date with clan gossip and drama. He just wasn't like that.

Troutstep caught his breath, licking his paw that had constantly been in pain. "Just making sure. Have you heard about the poisoned water?" He asked his apprentice, wondering how much he already knew.

"Well seeing as how I'm not wanted, like always ill just go.." Willowpaw meowed and started to pad away her tail trailing in the dust.

Troutstep gave a sigh. As much as I don't want her to be here, for some reason I hate seeing her sad. The tom thought, not knowing what to say.
