A New Home (For Iris and Spirit only please)

Iris sat atop a big, silver, metal Twoleg item which rested at the very end at the alley that she was in. The young she-cat nibbled on a thin mouse which she had eaten only half of, saving the rest for her mother. The tabby stood up and leaped down from the Twoleg garbage bin, landing swiftly on the stone ground of her shady home. Even though it had only been a few days, she was already starting to get stronger but thinner. She was so used to having plenty of food, now there was hardly any. She definitely got more exercise instead of being cooped up in the nursery all day. Iris crawled through a hole in a broken wooden Twoleg door to her left and padded into the abandoned Twoleg's nest. She and Spirit had come across the place not too long ago, and she loved it there. Iris had gathered some moss and made a bed for each of them, and they were even starting a fresh-kill pile on the top floor of the shelter. At night, they took turns guarding even though Spirit had originally been a medicine cat and Iris assumed she didn't know how to fight, but then again, neither did Iris.

Iris felt a bit like a kittypet as she climbed up the old wooden stairs to the top floor of the Twoleg nest, but soon brushed it off because she wasn't owned by Twolegs nor was there any around. The stairs had several gaping holes and weak spots, but Iris kept safe by dodging them. "Mom? Are you up here?" Iris asked. She had started to talk to Spirit a bit more, but just slightly. She still was dead quiet around others besides her mother.

Spirit was on the top floor. She had been setting a mouse she happened to catch on their start of a fresh kill pile. With it being a few days since finding their new home she had tried her best at picking up some fighting skills and had done somewhat good she even improved the skills she was taught by Duskfall many moons ago. It was enough at the moment just to protect them. Quietly she heard her daughter, Iris's, voice and looked to her her dark pelt somewhat blended with the shadows ."Yes I'm up here " She mewed padding over. At one point she would have been considered big built but now she was somewhat thin but still managed to be strong and was able to fend off intruders who meant them harm.

Iris smiled as she heard Spirit's voice. It was so warm, so welcoming so much like...home. What was home, exactly? A place where someone lived? A place where someone belonged? In that case, Iris was home, and she was happy about that. "I left some food for you in the alley on the Twoleg bin." Iris had started to call the dumpster a Twoleg bin. She slowly sat down as she realized that wasn't why she had come up; there had been a question nagging at her brain for a while and it needed to be asked. "Who is my father?" She suddenly blurted out softly and quietly.

She nodded"ok " She mewed then blinked hearing her daughters question. Instantly she started to remember Soaringwing and then the time he left. She was quiet for a moment before she mewed " do you remember Soaringwing....well that's who you father is..."She mewed.

Iris tilted her head slightly to the side, staring at the ceiling in deep thought, trying to remember Soaringing. The picture of a dark brown tabby popped into her head as she recognized the tom. She had seen him around before, but he seemed to avoid her a lot. Iris didn't say anything for a while, trying to believe that he was her real father. She didn't want to ask more about him, seeing that Spirit seemed to be uncomfortable about it. "I'm going to hunt," she announced. The look on her face asked Spirit if she wanted to come with her.

"Ok and sure I'd like to come with just let me eat that mouse you said you left for me "She mewed smiling a little bit.

Iris nodded and stood up, turning away and bounding down the stairs carefully. She padded through the room with the two moss beds and squeezed through the door's hole before stopping at the garbage can in the alley, where the half eaten mouse was laying on top the closed lid. Iris flicked her tail towards the mouse to show Spirit where it was before she groomed her rather messy fur and waited.

Spirit nodded and quietly she jumped up onto the trash bin and ate the mouse quickly and jumped down to join her daughter " alright let's go " she mewed.

Iris nodded, then started to pad out of the dark alley. She thought about Soaringwing and how he would make a great mate for Spirit...what made them split up? As she got busy with her thoughts, Iris took the lead of the patrol and lead the way to something Twolegs called a "park". There was grass, trees, Twoleg paths, and pleanty of mice, rabbits, birds, and even animals that Iris hadn't seen before like a tall brown horse-looking thing called deer.

Iris jogged over to a clump of tall grass and sniffed the air for mice. "Small anything?" She asked Spirit quietly.

Spirit padded after her daughter and once t b ere she sniffed at the air quietly " Hmm I think I smell rabbit nearby " She said.

Iris nodded and motioned with her tail for Spirit to go and catch it. The tabby smelled a mouse in the tall grass and slowly crawled into the maze of green, light on her paws. She stopped near the mouse before pouncing on it. The creature slipped out of her paws and ran away. Growling, Iris padded out of the towering grass and went to see if Spirit had caught the rabbit.

Spirit had spotted the rabbit near a tall patch of grass and quietly crept towards it before she punched catching the rabbit just barely. She picked it up and padded to Iris.

Iris smiled when she saw the rabbit hanging from her mother's jaws. The rather large cat nodded, then turned away to hunt some more. The scent of a squirrel near-by caused her to crouch down in a stance she had picked up from Spirit.

Spirit blinked and watched quietly as iris did.

Before Iris pounced, another scent tickled her nose. The she-cat slightly turned her neck and strained her eyes to see a deer chewing on grass a bit of a distance off. It was dawn by now, and the sun was falling behind the horizon. Iris looked back at Spirit and motioned to the deer. They had to bring the female doe down together. The brown tabby made a slow, big circle around the animal so that she was on the opposite side of Spirit with the deer in between. She made eye contact with Spirit as she stayed hidden from the deer. We have to bring this down together, she thought.
