Shadowclan's Deputy

Bearmask was sitting outside of the warrior den, cleaning her mess of a coat. When her father's yowl rang across the clearing, her gaze flickered up in surprise - her tongue sticking slightly out her mouth from pausing mid-lick. She had a feeling what this was for, with the deputy spot being open like it was...It shouldn't have remained as open as long as it was, but she supposed her father would have trouble deciding who be worthy of the deputy spot. She stood up as she pulled her tongue back into her mouth, finding a good spot to listen to her father before sitting down again, her fluffy tail wrapping around her paws. She couldn't help but wonder who the deputy would be.

Mousepaw appeared out of the apprentices' den, wondering what the ceremony was for. Probably another apprentice. She gave a sigh, but still sat under the Jaggedrock.

Marigoldpaw walked under the jaggedrock. Probably another apprentice.. she thought. Maybe we are getting a deputy, though. That would be great!

Scarletfrost appeared from the camp entrance with prey in her mouth, as she was returning from a hunting patrol. She saw Thrushstar on the Jaggedrock, and put her prey on the pile to pay attention to the meeting.

Leopardfang gathered with the rest of his Clan, his mind wandering to Shimmerkit and her status as a kit despite the fact that she was older than him. He was hoping this would be her ceremony, because she'd been doing a lot of nothing recently and that was no way to spend a lifetime. He looked up at Thrushstar, his tail flicking.

Mottleclaw walked out of the warriors' den. He wondered what Thrushstsar was calling them for? There wasn't another ceremony was there?

Cinderpaw padded from the apprentices' den, gathering with the other cats. She was hoping to become warrior soon, and had a small thought that it could be hers and Magpiepaw's ceremony. But.. what about a new deputy?

Looking around at his clan that gathered underneath him, Thrushstar took a deep breath. He knew that with Cormorantpelt's disappearance, he was supposed to choose a new deputy, but he was just hoping that she would come back. Finally, he decided it was time to choose another. "Shadowclan, it has been too long since we have had a proper deputy. Unfortunately, Cormorantpelt has not returned, so I must choose another. I say these words before Starclan so that they may hear and approve of my choice. Shadowclan's next deputy is Bearmask." He hoped he was making the right decision. He felt like he was. The she-cat was very experienced and had gone through a lot. It would serve her well as leader one day.

Magpiepaw, whom had been present all the while, sat up and smiled at the she-cat. "Bearmask! Bearmask!" he cheered with the crowd. Although he barely knew the she-cat, he had heard great things about the warrior. And knowing Thrushstar, there was no way he would choose any cat unworthy of the title. He was glorious and all knowing, after all.

Leopardfang had hardly noticed that that position had gone unfilled. It hadn't even crossed his mind, since the marvelous ShadowClan had survived so well without it. Still, he was pleased that the position would be filled from then on and he joined in the cheering of the new deputy. "Bearmask! Bearmask!"

The apprentice didn't know Bearmask that well, but she was excited to have her as deputy. "Bearmask! Bearmask!"

Listening to her father's words, her whole body stiffened as her name was said. What? Her? She wasn't fit to be the deputy! She wasn't good at much, there was so many other good choices other than her but...Her fur fluffed out as the Clan started to chant her name, her gaze shifting around nervously before she swallowed her fear. But...If Thrushstar saw that she was fit to be deputy, then she had to believe in him if not herself. So, she forced a soft smile on her face as she let the chanting wash over her as she stared up at her father. She would not let him down as he had put so much faith in her with this simple choice.
