Echoshine Echokit was born in the nursery next to her sister, Claykit, to a kindly queen named Willowtail, and a happy warrior named Blackfur. Claykit was the type of cat that was proud and boastful, while Echokit was soft-spoken and kind. When Claykit caught a mouse, Echokit tried to congratulate her, but Claykit was only interested in talking to Ironkit. Saddened and jealous, Echokit ran out of camp to think about the situation. She sat on a rock just by the lake, and fell in. By instinct, she swam up, and thought that her mother, sister, and family were there rushing to her side. But no, they did not. Suddenly a wave pulled again and she screamed. Tansypaw and Blizzardpaw heard her cries and the two sister ran to her, but she was already half dead. Suddenly, she hit her back leg on a sharp rock, severely injuring her. Tansypaw and Blizzardpaw quickly got her out and pulled her to safety. She was hurting too much, so they carried her to camp, where Sparrowtail noticed her leg was permanently injured. Much to her disappointment, she had to stay in the medicine cat’s den for a moon or two. The good side was her mother and father visited her everyday, when Willowtail learned that her it had been injured she quickly came running to help- Surprisingly with Claykit. Claykit sometimes came, but seemed to be more attached to Ironkit. Two moons later, when Echokit was three moons old, a new kit named Frostkit was born. Echokit surprisingly felt like she liked him, and played with him every time she got. Frostkit liked playing with her, and they soon became friends. But unfortunately, one moon later, a bout of Greencough had spread through the Clan. It killed the Clans medicine cat, Fishheart, leaving Sparrowtail to become the official medicine cat. Unfortunately, it killed her mother, Willowtail, too. When Echokit saw her mother dead, she was horrified, mournful, and scared she would have to die too, because her mother was dead and without milk she couldn’t eat. Duneheart said she would feed Echokit and Claykit, and she was already nursing Ironkit because he used to be a loner. When Echokit learned, a few days before she turned six moons, that she would be a medicine cat apprentice, she was highly disappointed because then she could never have a mate or kit. When she went to her ceremony, she walked awkwardly and Sparrowtail muttered that she was being foolish, for they were going to see Starclan, and that was not appropriate behavior. Echokit sighed and followed Sparrowtail normally, but quickly fell over a branch and a patrol of Hawkclan cats jumped out and confronted them. While Sparrowtail explained the situation, Echokit complained that her bad leg hurt, and she wanted to go home. When Sparrowtail finished, she told Echokit to walk it off. As they approached the Moonstone, Sparrowtail quickly ran inside. A storm had rolled in, and she told Echokit to come in after her quickly. Echokit, scared, followed in after, nervous the rain would flood the cave. Sparrowtail closed her eyes and sighed, and they continued into the Moonstones’ cave before approaching the stone itself. Sparrowtail touched her nose to it, and within a few minutes fell asleep. Echokit had done the same, before getting sleepy herself. She fell into a deep-sleep, soon seeing blood-red skies. With a gasp, she turned around and saw dark shadowy figures, terrorizing cats. She soon saw a kit, cowering in fear. The black figure lunged at it, and soon they both dissolved, and a dark figure lunged at Echopaw. Echopaw gasped. Blinking her eyes open again, she heard faint whispers. She saw a she-cat with her kits, cowering in fear. A large dark figure once again stood there. Echokit jumped to protect the queen, but the she-cats eyes glowed and she disappeared. Quickly she awoke to see Sparrowtail looking at her with wide eyes. “What happened? You were wailing… Is everything alright?” Echokit closed her eyes and explained everything to Sparrowtail. Sparrowtail sighed, explaining that she didn’t understand, and that Starclan was here. Three star shimmering cats stood, heads held high. Sparrowtail introduced them as Flowerpelt, Rainstrike, and Lightningstreak. They chanted Echokit’s new name, Echopaw, and made her take the Medicine Cats Oath. A few moons later, she overhears her sister is doing a great job and will be a warrior soon. She is maddened with jealousy, but keeps in her anger. When she hears the call for a ceremony, she twitches, thinking it’s her sisters ceremony, but Honeystar says that Hawkclan might be planning an attack. Soon after, Ironpaw is made a warrior, and Frostpaw comes to see her. They talk about herbs, the ‘mouse brained’ Hawkclan warriors, and their jealousy that everyone is getting their names faster than others. When they are done talking, Echopaw develops a crush on Frostpaw, and goes to sleep thinking about him. Honeystar’s prediction comes true and two moons later, the night Echopaw turns eleven moons old, Hawkclan attacks, killing Sparrowtail in a horrible, gruesome way. One of Honeystar’s lives are taken, leaving only one life left. Owlheart is nearly killed, and Blackfur is dead. Angry at Hawkclan, she swears vengeance. She lunges at a small Hawkclan apprentice, thinking he will be an easy opponent, because she had a small area of battle training during her learning sessions, and he was definitely newer. With a large growl, she unsheathed her claws and digs them into the cats neck, growling their clan was going to pay for what they’ve done. A cat from her clan screams for her to watch out, and she lets go, confused, then a large brown tabby tom slams into her, sending her flying, hitting a tree and she passes out, giving in to the darkness. When she awakes, she is in the same spot, Frostpaw crying next to her. When he sees her, he says that he was really worried about her. The clan is still fighting, and the small cat was lying on the ground, dead. A black she-cat was crouching him, trying to wake him up. The brown tom was fighting Honeystar now. Owlheart, injured, had rushed to help. She urges Frostpaw to help, and he nods. Unfortunately, Honeystar dies, and Owlheart is injured more. Frostpaw is half-dead, and Hawkclan escapes. Echopaw, not quite injured, but in shock, rushes to the scene, tears filling her eyes. She nudges Frostpaw them all, thinking they are all dead. When Owlheart and Frostpaw awake, she is filled with joy, but then realizes Honeystar didn’t wake up. Nudging her leader, she confirms he is dead, and is heartbroken by the scene. She treats every cat, saying she will help every cat before she goes to get her name. When Owlheart says he is going to go get his name, but Echopaw stops him saying his wounds need to be treated. She finishes with everyone, then says Owlheart may go. She goes that night to the Moonstone with Owlheart, where she and him get their names, not a very common thing to happen. She gets the name of Echoshine, and watches as Owlheart becomes Owlstar, and gets his names from Blackfur, Minnowtail, Midnightfur, Willowtail, Brackenheart, Flowerdrop, Honeystar, Sparrowtail, and Blueear. They return home, and Owlstar makes Dustypaw, Tansypaw, Blizzardpaw, Hushpaw, Cardinalpaw, and Claypaw warriors by the names of Dustybone, Tansyspot, Blizzardsky, Hushwing, Cardinalclaw, and Claywing. His new deputy is Redheart. Echoshine smiles and continues on with her day. Frostpaw comes to help sort herbs, saying he was grateful for such a good medicine cat in the clan. Echoshine smiles, then hears a cry of pain from the nursery. Scarletheart has had her two kits with Grasspelt, and Echoshine has to try her best not to mess up. Unfortunately, a she-kit named Shardkit is born dead. Scarletheart is seen to be heartbroken, and is hesitant to cuddle her sons, but Echoshine tells her she should be grateful for two living sons. Scarletheart nods and feeds her newborns, and Echoshine goes to take a nap. Two moons later, Frostpaw is made a warrior named Frostheart after he fought a dog, and soon after Claywing moves into the nursery with Ironshine’s unborn kits. Echoshine is worried for her sister, not wanting for her kits to be born dead, and Frostheart comforts her, saying Shardkit’s death wasn’t her fault. Echoshine tells him thank you, and leaves to go find some marigold. When she finds some, she realizes she went too far, and was on Hawkclan territory. She is nervous because it is so soon after the battle with Hawkclan, so she picks up the marigold and runs away quickly. A Hawkclan patrol is seen saying they swear they scented a Snowclan cat, but quickly shrug and walk off. Echosong is running back fast, and runs into Frostheart. He asks her what’s wrong, and she replies with “nothing”. Frostheart nods and they have a conversation, and Echoshine says she needs to put her herbs back now. Offering to help, they put away the herbs and do a little bit of organizing before Frostheart is put on the dusk patrol. They share quick goodbyes and Echoshine goes to take a quick name. Seven moons later she is seen laying under the stars with Frostheart on a bed of moss near fourtrees. They are exchanging words before falling asleep and waking up again the next day. When she awakes, they rush back to camp quickly, thinking everyone is still asleep. When they see they are, they quickly climb into their nests. It is shown that Ripplekit and Fawnkit have been made apprentices. Later that day, Claywing is seen to be having her kits. Ironshine rushes to help, along with Echoshine. Soon two healthy kits are born. The she-cat is named Crookedkit after her crooked tail, and the tom is named Bloodkit after the red spots on his cheek. After they are named, Claywing says that Echoshine did a great job and she was glad her sister became such a wonderful medicine cat. Later she goes on a walk with Frostheart to talk about more things as they had done the other night. Frostheart sees a rabbit and quickly chases it into a burrow. There is a thunderpath near there and Echosong sees him getting hit, but realizes it was only a vision. She calls a warning to him, saying it is dangerous to go so close to a thunderpath, but he replies with saying, ‘I’m fine!’ and walks back over to her with the rabbit in his mouth. They return home and share the rabbit. One moon later, Echoshine notices her belly has gotten bigger. She is confused, thinking she had not eaten a lot, but then realized what it was. She was going to have kits! Worried, she ran to Frostheart and told him. At first he was overjoyed, but then took in the situation. They organized a plan, to if any cat asked she had just been eating a lot, and she would have her kits in the forest. Later on, Fawnpaw and Ripplepaw are made warriors named Fawnear and Ripplepelt, and Bloodkit and Crookedkit are made apprentices. Soon she has her kits, and everything goes as planned. She names the kits Littlekit and Raccoonkit, and Claywing finds them. Scared her sister will tell Owlstar, she growls a warning, but Claywing replies that she will not tell. She takes the kits and tells Ironshine she had a second litter. Though Echoshine is saddened that her kits aren’t going to know she is their mother, she finds Frostheart back to camp and explains what happened. Sadly, a few days later Littlekit dies in his sleep mysteriously, and Echoshine is distraught. She fears Raccoonkit might die, too. When Raccoonkit is made an apprentice later on, Bloodpaw and Crookedpaw are made warriors by the names of Bloodmouth and Crookedstorm. A few moons later Tansyspot finds she is going to have Bloodmouths kits. When a new queen named Monarchtail has her and Snowfrost’s new kits, Bluekit and Hopekit, rogues attack the camp. The attack is much like her dream. This time, Echosong is ready to defend, and she jumps in the way of the rogue. The rogue growls and slices her cheek, sending her flying backwards. She landed with a thud, but got back to her paws. Monarchtail is crying for help as the rogue lunges at her and her kits. Echosong jumps at him as soon as he claws Monarchtail, and she pins him down. But due to her lack of battle training, she is easily pushed off. She is unable to help as he rips away Monarchtail’s life in a single slice, soon taking her kits lives as well. Echosong attacks the tom, and gets him pinned again, slicing his nose. He growls at her again, and attempts to rip her throat but misses, only striking a tuft of her fur. He hisses and rips himself free. He spots Raccoonpaw standing in a corner, helpless. He smirks and runs over to her, pinning her down. Claywing dives at him from a tree, yanking him away from her adoptive daughter. Echosong growls at the tom, and pierces his neck fur with her claws. He whimpers, pulls himself free, and runs off. The rogues all run off, and thankfully no one else died or was seriously injured. Later on in the Clan, more kits were born, more warriors were made, and Claywing became leader, followed by Cardinalstar, and then Aridstar. Echosong got an apprentice: Fawnear. As her vision had proclaimed, Frostheart had died on the Thunderpath, and she spent a moon mourning for her dead mate. She had told Raccoonheart, her newly made-warrior daughter, the truth, and she said she wished she had known. She was unable to save Ripplepelt’s mate, Silktail, from dying when she was kitting, or her son, Reefkit, from greencough. But after Reefkit got sick, Hushwing did. Dustybone did, too. She did all she could to save them, but sadly, she could not. Unfortunately, being exposed to the sickness for so long gave her greencough, which killed her. Raccoonheart grieved for her, saying she could’ve helped, but sadly she just wasn’t there in time. Raccoonheart soon died on the Thunderpath, and Raccoonheart had one kit named Chestnutfur.
