Turned to Crystal [THUNDERCLAN/RIVERCLAN EVENT]

Her breath caught in her throat when she arrived at the riverbank.

It had always felt so powerful, so unstoppable, so alive. Elders sometimes talked about this kind of thing happening, but she'd never been able to wrap her head around it. After all, how could the whole river just freeze? Was that even possible? Elders made up all kinds of stupid things to trick kits, so Sparrowpaw figured that this was just another lie.

But right now she had no choice but to accept the reality in front of her.

A coat of ice covered the water's surface, turning it an unnatural frosty blue. This wasn't her first time seeing ice. Snow had drifted down on-and-off for the last half-moon, blanketing the whole forest, and frost had crept into the dens and up the reed stalks. But this was different. Sparrowpaw had never seen so... much.

She could hear the rest of the RiverClan patrol arriving behind her. A warrior had barged into camp, back from a lone hunting trip, panting and shouting. When they'd asked them what was wrong, they'd just kept yelling: "It's frozen! It's frozen!" over and over again, like a mantra.

Sparrowpaw stuck out a tentative paw and placed it on the ice. It was numbingly cold. Would it be able to support a cat's weight? What could stop ThunderClan from crossing now? She looked out across into the snowy forest on the opposite shore, a glazed look in her eyes. Her brothers were killed near here. Remembering that was like a thorn in her heart, but she brushed it aside. She had more important things to worry about right now.

"How will we fish?" Sparrowpaw asked to no one in particular, hearing the rustle of the reeds behind her. She put another paw, further out onto the frozen sheet. It was slippery. Was it just a thin layer that'd break under her and send her plunging into the icy water below? Or was the whole thing frozen solid, even down to the riverbed? Sparrowpaw unsheathed her claws and scratched five sharp marks into the ice. Just gouges. "Do you think we could break holes in it? How long will this last?"

tl;dr the River is frozen. RiverClan and ThunderClan cats are welcome. Rogues too, I guess.

Fawnleap ran to the river, her head spinning. "No.." In all her moons, she never thought she would see it. Seeing Sparrowpaw also staring in disbelief, she gasped. She walked to the shore and put a paw on the ice. Thick...  She pressed a paw down, harder. Too thick..


Dapplepelt ran to the river, having been hunting all day. He decided to go see if the river was warm today, in case he fell in like two days ago. He approached the river with a smile on his face, but then he froze with shock. Ice.

It's frozen!

Never in his life had he heard those words yelled so desperately. Walking out of his den with a very serious look upon his face Sunstar went out with a patrol to visit this terrible sight. The River. How could it be frozen? All of that water, freezing into a big mass of hard, slippery ice. Thoughts ran around rampant in his head as he trotted with the patrol, the leader pondered upon what could they do. It's not like they could control the seasons, or make the ice melt. ThunderClan...the thought ran to the top of his worries. Now they had means to get across the River, what would that mean. Raids? Taking while their weak? No. RiverClan would not be defeated just because some ice took away the fish. It couldn't.

When the patrol arrived at the River, Sunstar froze as solid as the ice when he first saw it. The water was gone, the only trace of it was solidified in the ice. Shaking his head roughly, he moved beside Sparrowpaw copying her actions and raking his claw across the thick sheet of ice. The only thing he got was shards of ice flying out beside him and a weird tingling feeling running up his paw. What could they do? All the food was gone Hiding for the winter or, in this case, frozen in ice. That question danced in his mind, what could they even do?

"There has to be something we can do," Cinderfur mumbled, padding up next to the Riverclan leader. It had been a long time since she had seen the river even close to freezing. When she was younger, the worst she had remembered it was sheets of ice floating down the river. She had never seen it frozen solid. In all honesty, she had no idea what they could do. If they couldn't break through the ice, how could they get fish? They couldn't even catch any prey on land if they wanted to since everything that normally crawled across the ground was in hiding or hibernating. "Maybe... maybe the water is more thawed closer to the gorge? I know it's dangerous, but it might be the only way we can get food."

Flameclaw was out hunting near the river, the leaf-bare had hit hard and the lack of food hit all the clan harder. Any food the deputy found was given to the elders, queens, and kits first before she fed herself. She was hoping for some food but the deputy had yet to find any all morning.

The orange tabby's ears perked when she heard shouting from what sounded like the Rivercaln side of the border, carefully treding lightly in the snow the thunderclanner made her way over to the border. She wanted to be sneaky but quickly threw that idea out due to her pelt. But when she saw what the Riverclanners were shouting, she was just as shocked. "It's.. It's frozen.." The warrior mumbled, not caring if the warriors noticed her or not.

Still staring in awe the frozen water, Sunstar nodded the the warrior beside him. Emerging himself into thought, the leader tried to figure things out. Plus to piece his mind together around this tradgedy, but he was having little to no luck. So he finally answered Cinderfur. "Yes...but only warriors should go down there. Or apprentices unaccompanied. We wouldn't have them fall." The words just came of as he sent a glare at the ice, one so anger full that if it was possible it could've burned a hold straight through that thick ice.

TigerTail soon joined the warriors by the river. She had seen it frozen upstream and then followed it down until she scented SunStar. "We should patrol here more. If its truly frozen solid ThunderClan may try to attack us. They'll know we can't fish and will try and take SunningRocks back." She carefully stepped tiwards the frozen river and tested it with her paw. Finally she put full weight on it. TigerTail hissed when it wouldn't break then backed up towards SunStar. "We should find where it's weakest to break it so we can fish again. Then try and break more around it so the river might free up. What do you think?"

ThunderClan? Would they really attack them at a time like this? Sparrowpaw grit her teeth and glanced up at to the other shore. A ginger-furred cat was standing on the other side, bright and obvious against the white snow. She lashed her tail and glanced aside. "Cinderfur's got the right idea. The Falls won't freeze as easily as this." Sparrowpaw glanced up to the sky again, as if the answer to this was hidden somewhere up there in the clouds. I think. The medicine cat fell back on her haunches and shivered. "I have traveling herbs for hunger pangs and endurance, if it ever comes to that..."

Cinderfur turned to look at Sparrowpaw with a worried look in her eyes. "I really hope it doesn't." Turning to face Tigertail, she couldn't help but shrug (as much as a cat can). "As long as no one falls in. What are your thoughts, Sunstar?" she asked, hoping that the leader would give some kind of advice on the situation.

Flameclaw looked up at the Riverclan warriors across the way, none of them had noticed her except for a smaller cat which she assumed to be an apprentice of some kind. Were the Riverclan warriors so confident that they didn't need to pay mind or where they just paying mind to borders? The must of assumed she was some kind of patrol surely? Eh either way it was a bit strange they hadn't noticed, they normally do.

They deputy shook her head, and cleared her thoughts from the Riverclan warriors. She wanted to test the ice for herself. She wanted the ice to be broken and separate the two clans once again. They didn't need a battle now in this time, and she didn't want her warriors getting an idea. She also didn't want Riverclan getting an idea. Surely with the ice broken the fish faces wouldn't swim in the freezing water, Right?
