Shimmerkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Reedstar drew himself up on the low-hanging branch of the willow tree in the center of camp, waiting for it to stop swaying under his weight before speaking. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather for a Clan meeting!"

Shimmerkit padded out of the nursery, her head hanging high. She knew that this had to be her apprentice ceremony.

Amberheart padded out of her den, yawning and sleepily blinking her eyes. She looked up as she walked, and hid a smile as the large branch bobbed under her leader's weight. She sat down and gave her tail fur a few swift licks. My StarClan. If we get anymore apprentices we can split them off and give them their own clan. She thought, not grumpily, but a bit resentfully perhaps. Sure, she loved the young, starry-eyed cats, but they were in dire need of more warriors. Ah well. That she-cat looks like she'll make a fine warrior. She then stretched, and it occurred to her she was now a new senior warrior. She wasn't old, but she was older than half the clan now.

Shimmerkit padded over and sat down next to Amberheart. "Hi Amberheart!" She said, excitedly. Shimmerkit loved new friends, but she was a bit shy. Today, she wasn't at all shy. She thought that today she was growing up, so she shouldn't be shy anymore, because who ever heard of a shy warrior?

"Shimmerkit," Reedstar started. "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Shimmerpaw. Your mentor will be Amberheart. I hope she will pass down all she knows on to you."

Shimmerkit smiled and looked over at Amberheart. This will be fun! She thought.

Shallowkit peered out of the nursery sadly. He'd miss his denmate. She was the only friend he had.
