Eaglepaw's Assessment

Nightcloud sat outside of the ShadowClan camp, her tail resting on her paws. She had sadly been pushing Eaglepaw's training to the side, and with the fact that he was old enough to be a warrior, it wasn't good at all. It was time for his assessment. Just the fact that she had never gotten around to doing it bothered her, but that was going to change. Her gaze flickered toward the apprentice den, hoping that Eaglepaw would arrive soon.

Climbing out of the den, the apprentice stretched with a yawn. He was tall, well muscled and strong. Glancing Nightcloud's way, he padded over. Giving one last yawn, he stood in front of her. His amber eyes glowed with eager confidence. "Assessment?"

The silver tabby glanced at her apprentice as he made his way over, and nodded happily as she pulled herself to her paws. "Assessment," she agreed as she started to lead him into the territory. After a while, she finally came to a stop. She spun around to look at Eaglepaw, a warm, fond smile on her lips. Oh how much he had grown since she had gotten him as an apprentice...Now, it was time to see what he could do. "I am sure you know what an assessment is, but I will go over the basic. You have until the sun starts to rise to catch five pieces of prey. I will be watching you from the shadows to see how well you do. Even if you see me, just go on like normal. The five pieces of prey can be whatever kind of prey you want, you just need to bring them all back here before sunrise." After a few moments to let that sink in, she nodded her head with a faint smile on her face. "Start."

He nodded, padding off. Spreading his jaws, the smell of frog crossed his nostrils. Crouching low, he stalked the scent. He spotted a large brown-green frog ribbiting amongst the marsh. Creeping forward, he bunched his muscles and pounced. His jaws closed around it's neck and he grinned. Continue.

After searching for a while, the tom came across a rather large lizard. Stalk, creep, pounce. He missed it, continue.

Nearing the Thunderpath, the apprentice spotted a squirrel. It reeked of ThunderClan, but had plainly crossed the border. Crouching, he stalked it then pounced. He missed. He narrowed his eyes, disappearing through the darkness.

Padding along, the tom thought he saw Nightcloud. He continued on, spotting a second lizard. Stalk, pounce. Miss. He hissed, lashing his tail.

Frog. Marshy, watery, and meaty.
Stalking it, the young brown tom slinked towards it. Pounce. He growled, digging his claws deep into the soil before slinking along.

Spotting another frog, he stalked it and pounced. It hopped away and left Eaglepaw furious and stalking away empty-pawed.

Two more lizards, side by side, almost on top of each other. Dragging his tongue over his jaws, he stalked and pounced. Slamming a paw down on one, he turned and gave chase to the other.

Flying across the marsh, he leaped at the lizard he'd been chasing after. Biting his tongue to keep from screaming in frustration, Eaglepaw stalked along.
I'll kill anything I see without a second thought.

Wearily padding along, a sparrow pecked at the Thunderpath's edges. Hopping towards a tree, it pecked at the arching brown roots.
Not getting away, little little birdy.
The tom cooed inside his head. Crouching low, he drug himself forward and pounced. He let go. Yowling in rage, he clawed at the ground. Amber eyes bloodshot, he stared up towards the sky that had begun to cloud. A light drizzle began to trickle down-- barely noticeable, thankfully.
I'll kill them all.

The moon was slowly setting. It'd been hours since Eaglepaw had last seen prey, and his limbs were growing tired.
Kill something soon. Kill anything soon.
A pale shaft of snow-white moonlight broke through the clouds. Chittering under the branches of the pine sat a furry gray squirrel, looking around. A cooling breeze blew it's scent through his nostrils, and he gratefully inhaled. Dropping low, he pulled himself forwards. Narrowing his eyes, he pushed off and launched at the creature.
