Cedarpaw's Assessment

Sagestar waited outside of camp, ready to give the assessment to his final apprentice. He knew it'd be rather difficult for Cedarpaw, especially knowing the tom's special circumstances, but he had faith in the tabby. And, well, honestly if things didn't work out - ShadowClan wasn't known for their amazing hunting skills anyways~.

Cedarpaw took a deep breath. This was it. If he passed, he would get his warriorship.
Finally, he padded out of the apprentice's den, and up to the leader. The peach colored sun was setting over the pine trees. Perfect atmosphere for Shadowclan. It was a surprisingly mild day as well; the weather was just right.
"Hello, Sagestar." he said. He had gotten older since he first became an apprentice, and his voice was deeper. His tail lashed in anticipation to join his peers. He assured himself that his keen sight and hearing would help him prevail. According to elders, Twolegs couldn't smell a rabbit placed in front of them, yet their territory was massive!

Sagestar flicked his ear at the tom's arrival, turning to meet him. "Cedarpaw." He nodded back in greeting. "I assume you're ready for your assessment?" He paused, giving the younger cat a chance to answer before getting on his feet. "You have until moonhigh to catch as much prey as you can. After you finish, bring your catch back here. Remember, I will be watching, so don't goof off." With those formal instructions out of the way, he gave Cedarpaw a slight, but encouraging smile. "You may start when ready."

Not wasting any time, the apprentice nodded and set out into the forest.
The first prey he saw was a lizard. Admittedly, he did not sense it at first, and almost scared it away. Though, he caught sight of it.
Lower yourself. Crouch. Get ready...
He pounced at the lizard and felt it's tail graze his teeth. It escaped, though, crashing through the undergrowth.
Mousedung! he thought, almost hissing. So close...

Sagestar had been taking the slow route around, so he had not had the time to see whether or not Cedarpaw had caught his first kill, though it didn't take long for him to pin-point the apprentice.

A toad was Cedarpaw's second chance. It let out a croak, looking around idly. Hiding in the bushes, he prepared his crouch once more, and leaped. It tried to hop away, but Cedarpaw practically batted it into his mouth, dispatching it. Yes, a kill! He buried it under a tree, putting a twig over his spot, and continued. He had about enough time for 2 or 3 more catches.

The leader couldn't help but smile as he saw the toad practically leap into Cedarpaw's jaws. He nodded to himself in silent approval and continued to watch.

10 cat lengths away. A mouse squeaked under a tree, nibbling on a great nut with love for it's love and thinking about all those things mice thing about. Cedarpaw smiled. It was a large one. It'd make good food for the clan.
It would also be good for his score.
He got into his crouch, one he had grown so accustomed to, and jumped. No luck. It was fast for such a fat mouse. It darted away, and Cedarpaw cursed. He couldn't just return one frog, no matter how impressive it was. He couldn't stand being an apprentice for any longer. One more kill. He needed one more...

Sagestar flicked his tail. Well, he was certainly doing better than Nightwing had done... 'Come on, Cedarpaw.' He silently urged on.

The last piece of prey was another mouse. It was the same size as the last, thankfully enough. He focused, and made eye contact, hoping that thechancedicewon'tscrewhimover
He jumped in slow motion.
Success. He pounced on it, dispatching it's spine with a quick swipe. That was great! It was getting darker though, so he had to retreat back to camp. Retrieving his frog, he took his two pieces of prey back to the camp. By moonhigh, he dropped them in the clearing, looking around for his mentor.

The tom purred and followed the apprentice back to camp, meeting Cedarpaw at the opposite end of the clearing. "Well done." The leader meowed, "Go put the prey in the fresh-kill pile and quickly have a piece for yourself. We'll hold your ceremony at once."
