New Territory

Raccoonstar walked in her new territory marking the new borders. The floor of the area was pretty much empty while the trees towered over head. It was weird not being out in the open for the leader. It was hard to see the sky under the trees... The leader looked back to some of her clan mates, who came along with her and Lavenderpaw. She hoped that having some of Skyclan territory would make the former Skyclan cat happy. She looked back to the forest in front of her, maybe she could get used to this. They would have to learn new hunting techniques for the territory but all was worth it in the end.

As she followed Raccoonstar throughout SkyClan's former territory, Lavenderpaw felt a bit more depressed instead of bright - really contrasting on what her leader wanted. Shaking her head, she honestly didn't want to be here of all places. Although it was great to walk through the trees once again and perhaps try the hunting techniques Silentstar taught her around her fifth moon of kithood, Lavenderpaw didn't wish to be reminded of the moment that Silentstar had leave her or when Drizzlekit disappeared. There was never any truly happy moments she had in SkyClan except when Flamestar, Kestrelflight, Larchcloud, Drizzlekit, and Silentstar were all together and they were a big family that hung close to each other until the very end. Boy was that the best time, but didn't they truly stay close until the end? No, every cat left one by one until only Lavenderpaw was left. As she neared a tree, the apprentice quickly leaped up to the second lowest branch before going up higher than it was difficult to see her, though it gave a graceful look as she leaped from tree to tree before she paused. Although it was awhile ago, the she-cat still remembered where SkyClan's camp was, looking towards it, she saw that it was overgrown and blended with the trees and stones around it. Sighing, she wished she could visit the camp once more and remember all the good things from her birth Clan.

Raccoonstar looked above into the trees knowing that Lavenderpaw was up there. "Are you okay Lavenderpaw?" She asked wanting to join her apprentice up in the trees, but being a Windclan cat that was out of her nature. The leader stoppped moving forward, and sat down next to a big tree waiting for her apprentice's answer.

Pretending not to hear Raccoonstar, Lavenderpaw looked around for a bird to catch. Pricking up her ears, she tried to listen for the soft soothing songs of a bird, trying to track it down. It wasn't really long before the she-cat found one - a few trees away from her. The bird was whistling a pleasant tune, something nice to hear when feeling a bit depressed. This little bird was small and plump, colored at a somewhat brown-gray shade, marking a short tail and stubby, but powerful looking beak. Though it didn't look big, there was two of them - most likely mates, considering there was a nest - and it should be able to feed some of the clan. Knowing that Raccoonstar wouldn't be able to get up the tree, Lavenderpaw figured she should try hunting on her own, with only experience she picked up and lessons she got from Silentstar.

Leaping to a close branch - a fox-length or two from the two singing sparrows - the blue and white she-cat started to lower her body down until her underbelly was just brushing the top of the tree branch. Watching the birds carefully, the apprentice tried to figure where they would escape if she missed. Considering the possibilities, Lavenderpaw thought that they would most likely head to another tree or fly further down or even perhaps go to the ground. As she prepared to leap, she forced all her energy into her hind legs and gracefully leaped over, behind the birds. Landing with soft quiet paws, the branch didn't shake at her weight - considering she was very light for her age - and therefore, was unable to startle the birds, which happened to be fortunate. Once again, she leaped, but this time at the birds.

Hissing as she stunned the birds, the apprentice was able to bite into one of the birds' neck, snapping the spine. However, as she prepared to do the same to the other one, Lavenderpaw noticed that it had already escaped. Muttering something under her breath, she noticed that the nests had eggs. Perhaps she could take them for the clan - then again, this is WindClan. They're not into eating things that don't belong to the moor, right? Shrugging, she picked up the limp sparrow and leaped down with elegance, landing perfectly on all fours. Looking towards the area where SkyClan's camp was once again, she gave a long sigh, depression dulling in her eyes. Watching leaves fall from the branch she was at, sometimes she wondered what life would've been like if she had gone with Silentstar to the new area. Suddenly shadowing her eyes, Lavenderpaw mewed ominously - though it was meant to be a reminder to herself, "Value life as much as you can. It's a fragile drop that falls too quickly, so live life as if it was your last day."

Raccoonstar watched her apprentice, what seemed to her, dance around in the trees, and successfully killing a bird. The leader was amazed by the techniques the apprentice had used to successfully capture one of the birds. The she-cat ran over to the apprentice, a smile bright on the leader's face. "Well done Lavenderpaw! Maybe you could teach me some those techniques?" Raccoonstar said happily, feeling like an apprentice again. She hoped to brighten the mood, knowing the Lavenderpaw didn't really like it here at this time. "But if you do.. you have to teach me how to climb a tree first...." The windclan leader said, a little embarrassed by the fact.

Giving a faint smile that vanished quickly, Lavenderpaw licked her chest fur, blushing heavily. She was grateful for the praise, but she was hoping to have gotten both of the birds. As Raccoonstar praised her and ask how to successfully kill a bird, the apprentice's eyes were full of shock. A WindClan cat wanting to learn the techniques of SkyClan to kill birds? That's interesting. Then she remembered those ominous words she spoke to herself - what did she mean? Is it something that the she-cat should worry about - does it mean that she needs to appreciate life more and be happy she's still alive? Hearing Raccoonstar ask her if she could teach the leader how to climb a tree, she shook the previous thoughts out of her head before her eyes filled with amusement. She had to teach the leader of WindClan and probably warriors as well on how to climb trees and catch birds - sweet! "Sure Raccoonstar, just tell me when you're ready!"

"Well I am ready now if you are willing. The sooner I learn the sooner we can get some prey too." Raccoonstar responded to her apprentice. The leader made her way over to a near by tree, and looked up at the top. Did she really want to do this? She was made for the open air, and tall grass.. Well it didn't hurt to learn to hurt something new.

"Just follow my lead Raccoonstar, OK?" Lavenderpaw mewed as she thought of how to explain and/or demonstrate getting up the tree without injuring either of them. Nodding her head, she immediately thought of what she should do. "So then Raccoonstar, the way to get up the tree is to use your hind legs to jump as high as you can and your fore legs to stretch your body as much as you can. Don't try to go too high up, go branch to branch and perhaps keep your claws unsheathed so you can hang on just in case you fall..." the she-cat mewed as she demonstrated, lowering herself and sending her strength to her hind legs, jumping to the second tallest branch visible.

The leader targeted the lowest branch for her practice. Since she ran a lot her legs would have strength to push her towards the branch like when she was running. Raccoonstar pushed all her strength into her back legs, and sprang forward to the branch. The leader jerked forward as she grabbed the branch with her fore paws digging her claws into them. She hung there for a moment before slowly pulling her self up until she got a foot hold with her hind paws to push herself all the way onto the branch. She stood on the branch, and shifted around as she tried to get used to it keeping her claws in the branch to keep herself from toppling over. She looked at her apprentice with an awkward look, before giving a smile. "That was not the most graceful way to do it. She mewed.

As Lavenderpaw watched Raccoonstar target the lowest branch and sprang, she winced quickly at the jerk as she grabbed her forepaws, digging her claws into the branch. Seeing that she was hanging there for some time, the apprentice wondered if she should help the leader before she saw that Raccoonstar had gotten a foot hold with her hind legs to push herself up. Giving a sigh of relief that the WindClan leader got up safe and sound, she watched as Raccoonstar tried not to topple over. Noticing the gray tabby's smile and comment, Lavenderpaw couldn't help but give a small laugh. "That was a good try Raccoonstar! When grabbing on to the branch, make sure you have enough balance by using your tail. Oh, and don't forget to try and land on all fours per branch when you feel comfortable doing so," the blue and white apprentice mewed, before leaping up another branch. It shouldn't be too hard, considering that WindClan uses their hind legs almost all the time and SkyClan used those legs to jump. Simple as that.

The Windclan leader nodded her head, and watched as the Windclan apprentice moved to the next branch. She observed her movements to match them, and if she did that then maybe she would improve. Raccoonstar pushed herself forward to the next branch landing on all fours on the branch. She stumbled a bit not being used to the tree type terrain, but that came with practice. Hopefully she would improve in time to teach her clan.

Nodding to Raccoonstar, Lavenderpaw saw a quick improvement from the WindClan leader. "That's a great improvement, Raccoonstar! Now, try to go up higher and further," Lavenderpaw called as she leaped further, skipping two trees before she landed gracefully on another. It wasn't so hard if you knew what to do! ShadowClan may have some of SkyClan's territory, but they won't know how to use the trees and use all of SkyClan's special techniques. That was what WindClan had as an advantage because of her and she won't betray her adopted clan. Though, there may be a day when she's to join Silentstar in SkyClan's new home, but... How can she decide?

The Windclan leader targeted a branch that was farther up, and sprang forward. She landed on the branch with only a slight mishap, but she was getting better every time she moved to another branch. She quickly chose another branch that was farther away and sprang to it landing on it without any mishap learning quickly of the moves Lavenderpaw used. She quickly decided to try and sprint among the branches that were closer together. She sprang forward reaching every branch with her forepaws, and then springing of the same branch with her back paws racing forward feeling like she was fling more than running. Raccoonstar loved the feeling of the air through her fur, but this was even better. While running along the leader didn't quite reached the branch the way she wanted to, and ended up falling, ending her sprint, but before she plummeted to the ground she manged to grab the branch with her forepaws, and pull herself up.
