Nightpaw's Assessment

Sagestar waited on the outskirts of camp, having told one of his apprentices to meet him here outside at sunset. He felt it was time to assess one of his apprentice's training, Nightpaw, and perhaps if she did well, it'd be time to get ger warrior ceremony in order.

Nightpaw bounded in, her eyes shining with excitement. " I am ready!" She proclamed. Her tail swished and brushed the ground.

"Are you really?" Sagestar purred, "Then you have until moonhigh to catch as much prey as you can before meeting me back here. I will be watching you the entire time, so stay sharp. You may begin when you're ready."

Nightpaw's eyes Seemed to spark, and She took deep breaths. "OK," The she cat finally said. She took off into the mush, leaving Her mentor to Stalk Watch her. Nightpaw skidded to a halt in the middle of the territory, She had to decide weather to head to the four trees or the Thunderpath. Knowing that Not much hangs around the Thunderpath She trotted farther in t the Fourtrees. The Nervous apprentice tasted the air. A good strong scent of frog hung in the air, a split second later, she heard the frog croak. She traced the sent and sound to the frog, it was sitting in a puddle. Nightpaw frowned. Water animals where so lazy. She crouched, at the edge of the puddle, not really wanting to get wet. Just as she jumped the frog croaked and quickly sped away. Nightpaw splashed in to the water, a leaf on top of her head, She frowned and shook herself then climbed out. "Not a good way to start out..." She muttered and she trotted to a sunnier and cleaner spot.

Sagestar waited until the she-cat was long out of site before slipping into the darkness, making a bee-line around her scent trail, he quietly observed as she failed to take in her first catch. 'She must be nervous.' He thought to himself, silently encouraging her. Personally, he had been a skilled hunter when he himself had been a warrior, but it was becoming more and more apparent to him the more time he spent as a leader that in the most drastic times, the clan didn't really need skilled hunters. They could always just go to Carrionplace for the easy hunt, risks aside. At best, they needed skilled fighters, which he knew Nightpaw held up the standards too. He wouldn't judge the outcome of the assessment too harshly.

Night paw trotted closer in to the Fourtrees, She could see the tips of the great oaks waving in the soft wind. She Raised her head and opened her maw. She didn't need to smell, a crow stood on a low branch dropping food in it's nest, Nightpaw narrowed her eyes and crouched, Her eyes locked on the Jet black bird.Creeping forward, She Sprung, The bird flew away, Nightpaw landed on the branch sighing, there were no eggs in the nest as of yet, She leaped down and continued hunting, tasting the air every now and again.

Nightpaw wasn't going to give up so easily, She charged after it, her paws skimming the ground, bushes, mud puddles splashed past her, once she thought She was able you jump on it, She made a giant leap, She landed in front of the rat, it squealed and ran into Nightpaw, Night scooped it up, and tossed it in the air, The poor rat hit the ground dazed, Nightpaw landed for the rat and shook it, snapping it's spine. She held it up happily and looked around. She dug a hold in the ground and dropped it in. She closed her eyes for a moment to thank StarClan for the prey's life, and how it may feed the clan.

'Ah, finally...' Sagestar watched with amusement a few fox-lengths away, 'Just a few more, Nightpaw.'

Nightpaw flicked her ear, She tasted the air, many scents washed over her, The smell of RiverClan was faint from the breeze blowing over the Fourtrees. Nightpaw She faced the breeze so she was searching for any pray up wind of her, Nightpaw tasted the air once again, Another sent drifted over to her. Frog. She scented it as quick as she saw it. It was in a small puddle a few fox lengths away. She took a few steps forward before crouching then locking her eyes on the target, the wind blew to her, washing her with more scents. She sprung from her crouching position. Quick as a bird, the frog leaped ot of the way and ran as fast as it could. Nightpaw coudn't just give up the chase, she ran after it.
