Shadowclan Plot Part 1: The Sign

It was a rather unusually hot day in the territory that belonged to Shadowclan. The sun was bright overhead as the waves of heat that radiated off of it beat down onto the ground and the animals and plants that inhabited it. Of course, today wasn't the only day the heat had been this severe. It had been happening quite a lot recently and it was getting a little concerning, although the prey was still running so nothing was thought of it...

Until now.

In the middle of the territory there was a sign. A small sign, but one nonetheless. Covered by the tall grasses of the marsh and surrounded by a few tiny puddles of water was a spot that seemed completely dead. In the midst of the wet ground was a small place where the ground was completely dry; the ground cracked as if it hadn't seen water in moons while a minute clump of grass lay dead next to it. What could this mean?!

Aaanndd... enter medicine cats!

Shadepaw was walking ahead of his mentor while they looked for herbs. He noticed an odd parting in the tall marsh-grass, and padded over to it to inspect it. He parted the grass surrounding it to see a totally dead spot of grass-- the grass was completely dead, and the ground was cracked. "Dawnlight!" he called, wondering if this was a sign.

"What is it Shadepaw?" Dawnlight mewed, padding over to her apprentice. "Is there something you wanted to show me?" She asked.

He flicked his tail at the dead patch. "Does that not look odd to you?"

Dawnlight padded up to the spot, and studied it for a moment. Her face turned from curiosity to fear. "I-it's a sign! Something bad is gonna happen to the clan!! We must get back to camp Shadepaw and tell Shadowstar!" Dawnlight darted of towards the camp expecting her apprentice to follow her.

Shadepaw cocked his head. I wonder.. He followed his mentor, confused.

Dawnlight burst into camp panting, immediently she went over to Shadowstar's den, "Shadowstar?" She called hoping she was there if not the day would be terrible.

Shadowfeather looked over I wonder whats wrong? She asked herself.

The leader sat in her den munching on a nice frog that had just been brought into camp moments earlier. The hunting patrol had done very well, but she stopped eating as soon as Dawnlight entered with what seemed like urgent news. Immediately, she was up on her paws, hoping whatever the medicine cat had to say wasn't bad news. "Yes, what is it Dawnlight?" She asked urgently.

"T-there was a sign, out in the territory! A-and it's not good!" She mewed while panting. She was in a rush to get here.

"A sign?" Shadowstar asked. "What kind of sign?" She hoped it wasn't completely terrible. It was obvious that it wasn't good, but she still had her hopes up that the sign wasn't about someone personally.

Shadepaw shoved his head in a small gap that was left after Dawnlight taking up most of the space infront of the opening to Shadowstar's den. "There was a patch of completely dead grass in the center of a ring of puddles." he mewed.

"Dead grass? Well that doesn't seem too terrible. All grass dies eventually," Shadowstar breathed with a small sigh of slight relief. Of course, though, with signs being so vague, she couldnt tell if it were one or not.
