Certain people, called SwordsMan, are the only ones allowed to use a sword. The top three SwordsMan are treated with great respect, and the Top, number one, SwordsMan, is treated like a God. He is treated better than anyone, because SwordsMan are the highest. They don’t only train with blades to keep the city safe.. -- Chapter 1 Taka sat on a tree branch, gazing down at the grass as it swayed and sang in the soft, Summer time breeze. The sun beat down on the land, but Taka was shaded by the canopy of the tree. He leaned against the bark with contented sigh, his green eyes trailing down to the grass. A woman came out. She had a lithe build and long, black hair. Her dress blew slightly in the breeze. “Taka! Taka! What are you doing up there?” the woman called. Taka looked over to his sister, and then, with a midair flip, landed down in the grass after a neat jump. “Well, I was trying to rest Miala.” he huffed to his sister. Than, the sound of drums echoed around, encircling the two. “The SwordsMan Ceremony!” they both shouted in unison and raced out to the streets, melting into the crowd of people that clapped and screamed. People trained all their lives to become SwordsMan, and this day- July 31st- was the naming Ceremony of the top three SwordsMan. So, the crowd marched on, excitement buzzing in the air like a massive swarm of bees. The line split as the line of fifteen SwordsMan-Taka one of them- filed down the streets, making their way to the front and up onto the giant stage, that was setup for this event and others only. Then, Beyen, the SwordsMan trainer, stepped up from the crowd. He looked at the gathered people with a sweep of his gray eyes. “Citizens of Towma, we gather here today under this bright blue sky, with the sun shining bright, on July 31st to name our new, Top Three SwordsMan!” he announced, and the crowd immediately erupted in applause and cheers. The SwordsMan glanced at one another, anxious to learn the new SwordsMan. Three large pedestals stood, center stage just behind Beyen. Each Pedestal was marked with 1st, 3rd, or 2nd. And, each SwordsMan was to receive their Blade of Honor and step onto the pedestal with their newly received sword. Beyen gave a signal for silence, and then began again. “In Third place is Miyaa, a strong SwordsMan, and a brave young lady!” a young, lithe-built woman stepped up. Her eyes shone with tears as she took a Blade, the handle colored bronze. Then, in 2nd, came Mirou. His Blade’s handle was silver. Then, came a big shock. Taka, taking 1st. His Blade’s handle was gold, and as he stepped up onto the high pedestal marked 1st, the crowd fell silent in shock. Then, one by one, began clapping. And then the crowd erupted in cheering, and through the cheers Taka heard them chanting his name. Taka looked to the sky. He slowly slid the sword he’d just received out of it’s sheath, and pointed it towards the sun. The golden rays caught the metal and seemed to set it on fire. Taka looked like he was holding fire. Simply holding a flame, as if it would never burn him, as if it would never scorch his skin. Then, someone screamed out, “Taka, the Boy Who Holds Fire!” then everyone started chanting it. “TAKA, THE BOY WHO HOLDS FIRE!” the crowd began screaming. Chapter 2 As a group of security started pushing the chanted crowd back, then SwordsMan got down from their pedestals, and looked at each other. The swords they had just received were long, and the blade was shiny, and when reflected in the sun appeared like flames, just as Taka’s sword had done. The only difference were the handle colors, and those marked their place in SwordsMan society. Beyen nodded to them, and, as if a silent message was spoken, they began walking towards the crowd, Taka in the lead. The crowd parted neatly as they stepped through and the town plaza roared with their cheering. Once they reached the end of the crowd, they kept walking, but Mirou and Miyaa split and then stood on either side of Taka, and they walked in a straight line through the city, exiting the plaza and entering the outskirts. Sweat rolled down their faces as they walked through The Edges, the very outside of town. The Edges were abandoned, and had been the old town before it moved forward and was rebuilt, farther from the forest. Then, a chill went up their spines. They were staring into the forest, shadows casting in every where as dark pines loomed high above the ground. Old doors clattered as they walked out of The Edges, and Miyaa let out a squealing noise she a loud crack, then a growl sound. Fear surged through their veins, but they all knew they had to do this. So, stepping into the forest, they disappeared into the pine trees, swords in hand as they hiked through the heavily-wooded area. Chapter 3 --Sorry Chapter 2 is so short, but that's basically all I have for it..Forgot to mention in the first Chapter that the newly selected SwordsMen have to spend the rest of the day in the Forest, a very dangerous place. No SwordsMen have been killed there..Yet. They must be back in the morning, accept their departing gifts and head to the Aristocratic part of the town. ______________________________________ Art credit to Grey. |
