The Corruption

Sleepystar didn't answer for awhile. "I am saying that. I guess there isn't really that much to hide." he laughed. "My sister's name is Twistedheart. She was ShadowClan deputy for a time. She eventually got replaced, though. By Bramblestar. And I had a brother here in RiverClan. His name was Burnsorrow..." he sighed. "He's gone though. Along with my other friends."

Badgerfang blinked. "Really?"

Hopeclaw walked over to where Sleepystar and Badgerfang were sitting. "It's okay- we're here for you, Sleepy." Hopeclaw said.

He smiled, lost in memories. "Yes... Thank you. I remember Mudpuddle, Pinestar, Hawkpath, Burnsorrow, and I would hang around camp as apprentices. I never felt loyal to ShadowClan, but I always wondered if things would have been different... Would it have been better?"

"Well- you tell me." Hopeclaw said. "I mean... what if you never became the leader of Riverclan? What would we do without a great leader like you? I mean, sure... you can be a little... odd sometimes, but that's something that makes you who you are." Hopeclaw looked at the puddle. "Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I was in Skyclan with my mom and dad."

Sleepystar smiled. "You never know. And you probably wouldn't have liked me the way I was."

"Oh come on- who couldn't like you? You're a great person no matter what clan you're in. Unless you were in Thunderclan, then we'd probably hate you. Sometimes you just have to let go of the past, and think about the present." Hopeclaw said.

"But how can I?" Sleepystar inquired, skimming his claws once again over the water. "No kits, no mate, no family." he repeated under his breath.

"You have to think of what you have right now." Hopeclaw started counting on her claws. (X3) "You're the leader of a clan... you have all these great friends... you have your fish..." She paused. "...and you have Tinywhisker." She didn't really think Tinywhisker was real, but she didn't want to deny it either. It might have broken the old cat's spirit.

"The first couple of times I met Tinywhisker he attempted to kill me. More than once." he mumbled.

"So then take him out of that list... but you still have all those other things!" Hopeclaw said. "Besides, I don't have my family either, but we all learn to cope, right? It's a dangerous world out there."

Badgerfang nodded, looking at Sleepystar. "I don't have my parents, or my mate. But I do have my kits, and Sparrowflight and Pantherpaw."

Sleepystar laughed slightly, remembering Tinywhisker's deal so long ago.

"Power to rule the forest would be yours. Wouldn't you want that? To keep your love ones safe? To make sure no one makes the mistakes that are so frequent in this forest? You once vowed that you'd make sure the forest was fixed, even if it cost you the stars."

He looked up them. "You shouldn't have to cope."

"I guess not... but it's for the best, right?" Hopeclaw said.

A blue-grey she-cat padded through the vast territory she had come to know pawstep by pawstep. Dream Territory. "What.. Sleepystar? Badgerfang? Hopeclaw?" she muttered underneath her breath. "Oh, yeah. I'll take that approach!" she giggled quietly, and stalked to a tree that was behind the group. Smirking the whole time, she finally stopped at a fork on the tree, and bunched her hind legs. Leaping, she jumpde onto Badgerfang's back. "Haa!"
