Scarletpaw's Assessment

Shadowsong yawned as she padded to the apprentice's den. "Scarletpaw!" She meowed.

ic: Scarletpaw looked at her. "Shadowsong?"

She flicked her ears with a smile. "Its time for your assessment," she replied as she headed towards the entrance of the camp. "Let's go."

Scarletpaw said nothing, and followed her. This was it. All she had to do was pass her assessment, and she'd be a warrior.

When they reached the center of the territory, Shadowsong turned to Scarletpaw. "Okay this is what you're going to do. Youre going to hunt and see how much prey you can catch before sunrise. I will be watching and assessing you but you won't ever see me and don't try to find me. You can hunt anywhere between Highpine to the Carrion Place. Are you ready? Get started whenever you want," she mewed.

Scarletpaw nodded, and placed her paw down. Quickly, she bounded out of sight. She would begin at the Carrionplace, since most prey was lurking there. Her ears erect for sounds, she caught a small mouse stuffed inside of a blue wrapper. She immediately dropped into a crouch and approached. Her whiskers twitched, and she dashed forward, pressing her paws down on the wrapper, closing up the hole. She swiftly killed it by biting the lump poking up from the wrapper.

Shadowsong quickly and quietly pelted after her but stopped immediately when they reached the Carrion Place. Taking cover behind a stray bush, she watched Scarletpaw make her first kill. good job! she thought.

Scarletpaw quietly buried her fresh-kill in a clean spot with dirt. She nosed the ground, searching more. Her ears careened as she heard a sound ahead. A green worm? No, it was a snake. The apprentice stalked forward, watching the snake slither slowly. She dashed forward as the snake began to zig-zag hurriedly. Too slow. Scarletpaw was already on top of it, breaking its neck swiftly.

The deputy nodded slightly in approval. It was early and she was already do well, but could she keep this up was the question.

Scarletpaw's eye caught another glimpse of a snake. She lowered down and watched it. It stayed there for awhile, not budging. The apprentice took no hesitation in killing it swiftly. Yes! Another victory! she thought proudly.

Shadowsong barely flicked her ears proudly. At this rate, she would be a warrior in no time.

Scarletpaw decided to try out somewhere else, since the prey had seemed to be scattering. She trotted over to the Thunderpath, knowing that it'd be dangerous on the rocky surface. She decided to hunt alongside it. A toad caught her eye, and she slowly worked her way around it since it was facing her. Too late! It already spotted her and hopped off.
