Mah Writing Homework!

A soft wind whisked past the trees, sending leaves of many colors spinning into the river below. Paws pounded the ground as Badgerpaw raced out of the camp, tears forming in her eyes.
She slid to a stop, and the end of the still river. She couldn’t stand the looks her Clanmates were giving her now. Opening up her eyes, trying to stop the tears that were trying to break though, she gazed at the slow moving river.

Badgerpaw stared at her image in the water, not minding the fallen leaves as they floated past her. She was too focused on her three scars running down her right eye.

She closed her eyes, not being able to stand the sight of her scars and her lightly clouded right eye. She felt her heart sink as she remembered the memories, which she fought so hard to forget.

She was on a patrol…her first one ever. Her best friend Icepaw had picked up the scent of a badger, a giant beast that all the Clans feared.

One of the bushes had started to shake, and a giant white and black beast seemed to leap from it, heading toward Badgerpaw. She didn’t even have time move out of the way before the giant paws of the beast had reach the small cat, blinding her forever.

"Badgerpaw?"

The voice made Badgerpaw jump, bring her from her memories. Opening up her eyes, she turned around only to see the white face of her mentor.

"Oh, it's you, Moonfrost. You scared me half to death." Badgerpaw meowed, letting the fur of her back fall flat.

Moonfrost let out a small giggle, her blue eyes shining. "Sorry, Badgerpaw, I just thought that you might want to see the kits." she meowed, pulling herself from the bushes.

"I don't really want too..." Badgerpaw meowed, as she gazed around the clearing, looking at all the leaves of Leaf-fall. What would the kits think about her scars?

"Oh, come on, Badgerpaw! I'm sure they would love to meet you, mostly Maykit. She loves it when I tell her about you."

"Fine, but I won't stay long." Badgerpaw said with a huff as she followed Moonfrost to the camp.

As they padded toward the nursery, Badgerpaw could see Sleepystar and Lionclaw talking with her good eye, and the other apprentices padding out of their den, getting ready to train, some giving her sorry looks.

Moonfrost pushed her way into the bramble nursery, to be met with squeaks of joy from the kits.

Badgerpaw followed slowly, not wanting to see the kits. As she got into the nursery, she could see five kits gathered around Moonfrost.

"Hello, Moonfrost!" the kits cried together, as they all tried to climb over each other to greet the she-cat.

One of the kits, a blueish-gray she-cat, spotted Badgerpaw, and raced over. "Who are you?" she squeaked, her yellow eyes wide.

Badgerpaw blinked at the kit, a little surprised. "Uh...Badgerpaw."

"Oh, Moonfrost has told me about you!" the kit meowed, her eyes now shining with joy. "I'm Maykit!"

"Hello, Maykit." Badgerpaw purred, as she looked at the small kit with her good eye.

"Moonfrost likes to tell me that you are a good apprentice! I want to be just like you, facing and fighting badgers!" Maykit meowed with bravado, as she showed her teeth. "I'll show those badgers not to mess with RiverClan!"

Another kit, a black she-cat padded up, letting out a small growl at Maykit. “Yea, right Maykit, I bet that a badger would kill you in one swipe!”

“Yea right, Duskkit! I’m sure that I would kill a badger!” Maykit meowed, turning to her den-mate.

The other kits stopped meowing to Moonfrost, wanting to find out what Maykit and Duskkit was meowing about, they padded over.

“I bet that I could kill a badger!” Another blueish she-cat meowed, sitting down. “I want to be known as Hopekit, the badger killer!”

“Nuh-uh, Hopekit. I am going to be Skykit, the badger killer, not you!” Another blue-ish kit meowed, her eyes wide. “All the badgers are going to fear me!”

Badgerpaw watched as the kits meowed back and forth, soon getting tried of it. “Guys, there is no way that one cat can take on a badger. I mean, it blinded me for life with just one easy swipe of its paw.”

As soon as Badgerpaw meowed that, the kits all stopped meowing. “Really?” Maykit breathed, looking at Badgerpaw with wide eyes. “You can only see with one eye? Is it hard to hunt? Do you think that you are going to be a warrior?”

Badgerpaw just sighed as she looked at Maykit. “It is hard to hunt, I can only see with my left eye.” She lowered her head as she went on. “I’m not sure if I am going to be able to become a warrior. It’s hard for me to hunt and fight.”

Maykit just looked at Badgerpaw for a while until she moved to the right, getting out of Badgerpaw’s view. “Does this mean that you can’t see me?”

“Yes, I can’t see you, May-“ Badgerpaw broke off as she heard Maykit’s fur brush the ground. She quickly ducked, sending Maykit flying over her, and into Hopekit, who was standing on the other side of her.

“Get off of me, Maykit!” Hopekit hissed playful as she pushed her den-mate off of her, and into the side of Badgerpaw.

Maykit got to her paws, shaking the dust out of her fur. “Hey, Badgerpaw, if you are blind in your right eye, then how did you see me?” she asked as Badgerpaw looked over at her.

“I heard your fur brushing the ground.” Badgerpaw meowed, flicking her tail at the small kit.

“If you heard me, doesn’t that mean you could still fight?” Maykit asked, tipping her head to one side.

“Uh, yea I guess. Maybe I could become a warrior! Maybe not a great one, thought.”

“Does that mean that you could become my mentor?” Maykit meowed, getting onto her back paws.

“Nuh-uh, Maykit! She is going to become my mentor!” Duskkit growled playful, knocking the paws from under Maykit, sending her to the ground.

“You guys can fight over Badgerpaw, but I want Sparrowpaw!” Hopekit giggled.

“But I want Sparrowpaw as my mentor!” Rainkit cried, looking at Hopekit.

“I want Moonfrost as my mentor,” Skykit meowed, padded up to the queen.

“I am going to be a warrior first with the help of Badgerpaw,” Maykit yowled in joy as she leaped onto the back of Badgerpaw.

Badgerpaw glanced at the kits, then looked at her mentor. “Hey, Moonfrost, can we go train?” she asked, as she shook Maykit off of her.

Moonfrost nodded, getting to her paws. “Sure, I’ll meet you out in the clearing.” Moonfrost padded past Badgerpaw.

“Can we go watch you train?” Duskkit meowed, tilting her head to one side. “Please?”

“Yea, can we?” Hopekit meowed, jumping up and down in joy.

“Sorry, kits. You guys have to be apprentices before you can leave the camp.” With that, Badgerpaw turned around, and pulled herself out of the nursery.

A small echo of ‘awwwww’ came from the nursery as Badgerpaw slowly padded toward the exit of the camp.

“Hey, Badgerpaw, wait up!” Badgerpaw heard the cry of Snowpaw right behide her, as he raced up. “Are you going to go train? Can I join you?”

“Uh…sure, of course,” Badgerpaw meowed, a little shocked that Snowpaw wanted to train with her. She always felt so alive with Snowpaw around her.

“Cool, let’s go!” Snowpaw raced from the camp, with Badgerpaw right behide him.

“Oh, Snowpaw, are you joining us?” Moonfrost meowed as they reached the clearing. “Well, if you are, then we should get started. You both know the basic moves, right?” After both cats nodded, Moonfrost continued. “Good. I want you guys to fight each other, but remember, no claws!”

Snowpaw started to nod, but he was quickly knocked over by Badgerpaw, who had already started the fight. Snowpaw growled as he kicked Badgerpaw in the stomach, sending her flying off of him.

Badgerpaw landed on her paws, quickly turning to face Snowpaw. She dove under him as he leaped at her, turning and raking her paws on the under-side of Snowpaw.

She got to her paws, but Snowpaw was upon of her. She tried to shake him off, but he was holding on strong. She soon was able to knock Snowpaw away from him, and into a pile of leaves.

Snowpaw rose from the pile, breathing heavy, which Badgerpaw was also doing. He leaped at her, raking his paw on her side, and knocking the back paw from under Badgerpaw.

Badgerpaw landed on her side with a thud, to tired to get up. Snowpaw stood above her, looking down with his soft yellow eyes. “I think I won,” he meowed, placing his forepaw on her side.

“Not…yet!” Badgerpaw kicked out her hind paw, striking Snowpaw in the belly. She quickly got to her paws, and leaped onto Snowpaw, placing her paw on her neck. “Now I think I won.”

“Very good,” Moonfrost purred, as she padded up to the apprentices. “You can get off of Snowpaw now, Badgerpaw.”

Badgerpaw nodded, taking a step away from Snowpaw and letting him get up. “So, how did I do?”

“Really good, I didn’t see that coming.” Snowpaw meowed, shaking the dust from his pure white fur.

“Indeed, you both did well!” Moonfrost purred.

“Did you see that? Badgerpaw won!” A whisper rose from a bush, not far from them.

“Do you want to give us away? Be quiet!” another voice hissed.

Badgerpaw looked at Snowpaw, then padded toward the bush. She quickly pulled Hopekit and Maykit from under the bush, their eyes wide with fear.

“What are you guys doing out of camp?” Moonfrost meowed, as she padded up to them.

“W-we wanted to watch Badgerpaw train…” Hopekit meowed, looking at her paws. “Are we in trouble?”

“Yes, you are. You shouldn’t be out of camp,” Snowpaw meowed as he padded up to the kits.

“We-we are sorry!” Maykit whispered, looking up at the cats, whom towered above the kits.

“Just get back to camp,” Moonfrost sighed, as she pointed her tail toward the camp. “Go, now!”

The kits nodded, and raced off. Maykit then stopped, and looked back at Badgerpaw. “Yo-you are a good fighter.” She quickly turned and then raced back toward the camp, her fur still fluffed up in fear.

“I think we scared them to much.” Snowpaw meowed with a sigh, as he started to pad back toward the camp.

“Hm…maybe Maykit was right…I can become a warrior!” Badgerpaw meowed, padding along with Snowpaw.

Snowpaw blinked, nodding. “I would hope so, I want to see you become a warrior.”

Badgerpaw nodded, as she tried to think of what her warrior name should be. Badgertooth? Badgereye? No…that doesn’t really sound good….I know Badgerfang! Yea…Badgerfang…like that is ever going to happen, she giggled to herself, happy that she knew that she was going to become a warrior.
