The Great Escape

Talonkit was getting bored of her assignment, to pick thorns out of all the moss. Just as she was finishing the nursery, she decided to quit. She wondered if there was a tunnel anywhere. Then she remembered! The dirtplace tunnel! Then, If anyone stopped her, she could just say she was going to make dirt. She ran through the tunnel, and the did the greatest leap she could onto the moor. She took a deep breath, smelling the air. This was even bigger then the camp! She kept running until she came to the top of a hill. She paused then kept running. But she started getting tired. She found a place with decent shelter and sat down for a moment, hoping she wouldn't be noticed.

Wolfkit had seen Talonkit leave camp, and followed her. she ran until she found Talonkit under a heather bush. "Hi!!"Wolfkit said, coming from behind

Talonkit jumped, and turned around. "Oh! Hi Wolfkit," She mewed, surprised. Then she got an idea. "Let's go hunting! If we bring back food maybe we can be apprentices sooner," If Talonkit had been a bit older she would have realized the plan would just get them in trouble, because her mother and the whole clan would be worried. But she was adventurous. She wanted to help the Clan catch prey, like a real warrior would!

Shadekit looked around. "Talonkit? Wolfkit?" She flattened her ears and sniffed around camp, mewling. She saw their paw prints leave the camp and got scared.

"Yeah!," wolfkit exclaimed,"but, how do we catch a rabbit? It must be easy because all the warriors bring back plenty of prey!"

"I bet we have to be quiet. You're right. How hard can it be? Warriors catch rabbits all the time." Talonkit mewled. "And we know how they smell from the fresh-kill pile." She froze, and smelled the air. It took her a second, but she smelled it. "I smell rabbit!"

Wolfkit sniffed."So do I," she mewed quietly, thinking it might hear them, "let's sneak up on it!" She began to creep toward the scent.

Talonkit followed closely behind Wolfkit. "Wait," She whispered. "We need a plan. I'll go around the other side and we can close it in. Then we'll pounce." She quietly crept around to the other side, hoping the rabbit didn't notice. She flicked her ears, hoping Wolfkit knew it meant that they should start now. She crept forward silently...

wolfkit sat still, waiting for talonkit to get in position, so they could close in.

Talonkit stepped quietly into her position. She looked Wolfkit in the eyes and they, in unison started creeping towards the rabbit. Talonkit had practiced on leaves but never had she come this close to live prey. She was excited!

Wolfkit crept toward her friend, the rabbit unsuspectingly between them, preparing to pounce.

Talonkit put all her weight on her haunches and pounced.

Icepaw was bored and just padding around camp. He notice Shadekit looking outwards of camp. He padded up to her.

"What's wrong?" he asked. Then he caught the scent. 2 kits were out of camp! He looked at her, giving her a look that told her to say, and followed the kits' scent. Soon enough he came upon them, only to find them trying to catch a rabbit. He sighed in relief.

Talonkit landed squarely on the rabbit, and Wolfkit followed her right after. She sunk down her tiny teeth into the rabbit's throat. They had made the kill. That's when she scented Icepaw.
"Did you see what we caught?" Talonkit asked Icepaw loudly.

"hi" Wolfkit mewed, seeing Icepaw "this is our first kill! Isn't it cool?"
