(This is where Mint is originally from. As I believe wholeheartedly in sharing my ideas with others, anyone is free to use this post as a guide if they want to make a character with the same background!
This isn't the first time I've done something like this, and it probably won't be the last, either.)
The Guardians of Twilight are healers and peacekeepers, a reclusive order originally formed in the alleys and abandoned corners of a distant Twolegplace. Over time, they have carved for themselves a Sanctuary there, a carefully guarded safe haven. They have no leader, instead acting as a collective and putting any major disputes to a majority vote.
Most cats who run across them don’t stay long--just long enough to recover from illness or injury, occasionally lingering for a while to help tend to the newcomers. Some, however, remain with them for an extended period of time; and some, on rare occasions, are born to them.
Because most do not stay long, and very few of the ones who stay permanently leave the Sanctuary, the details of their culture aren’t particularly widespread or well-known outside it.
They speak highly of the first among them, the legendary healer Azure. It is said that she was the one who first led the sick and injured to the safety of the Sanctuary, taught them what she knew, and that she loves and watches over all cats even in death.
The Guardians of Twilight believe that the dead walk the stars, but hold the belief that they may also come to visit the living; most often when the veil between life and death is thin, at dusk and dawn.
Those who stay, or who come of age with them, take a healer’s oath; the specifics often vary, but the core tenets are always the same: to refrain from intentionally causing harm (unless necessary to protect themselves or the vulnerable), to heal all who need it regardless of who they are or where they come from, to bring peace wherever possible, and to refrain from passing judgment on those around them.
(As they believe strongly in redemption, those who break their oath are not immediately exiled, but instead offered a chance to relearn the tenets they once vowed to follow.)
