Sparrowthorn wasn't surprised that Adderdawn wanted to patrol with her. He had been her mentor. Despite their distant relationship, she couldn't help but still feel some sort of kinship. Maybe that was why mentors and apprentices were paired. There were never any mass trainings, building bonds seemed important. It still did, in a way.
She flicked an ear when he congratulated her. She did like her name, it suited her. His apologies, however, were unnecessary. "I'm a warrior. Means that you still did a good job." As close to a compliment as she would get, Sparrowthorn watched as Adderdawn began his own hunt. A grouse quickly appeared within his jaws. Better luck? She'd be the judge of that.
A hare made the mistake of popping its head above ground, especially around Sparrowthorn. She had already scented the creature, but it had quickly sealed its own fate. Crouching low, her short height made it easy to sneak around in the freshly sprouted tall grass. Life really was returning after leaf-bare. With a dash toward her prey, she dispatched it, burying it for later.
"Hmph, you were right, good luck." She eyed her mentor with the ghost of something resembling a wry smile.
