Dead Mentor's [closed]

The silver tabby launched himself into an imaginary partner as he could, flicking his tail outward like Lionfur had showed him in order to keep his balence. He was tired of being helpless within the clans and was ready to kill any of the dark forest cat's that were to challenge him or the way's of the clans for his beloved Blazepaw. Although being born under the reign of the Dark Forest cat's Ryepaw didn't particularly like all of them, especially that Rashia.

She was a bully to the clans and just wanted to make their lives miserable. If it was a fight that she wanted a fight she would get. As Ryepaw landed the move he immediently turned around and attacked a stick pretending it was an enemies' throat. He visiously tore it to shreds when he suddenly heard a noise within the grass. "Reveal yourself." he growled.

The silver tom was the size of a warrior now and should've been a warrior but his past mentor Goldenstar was dead and the clan didn't bother to appoint him a new mentor yet. It seemed as though they didn't really care about tradition even in the midst of turmoil. He would've prefered if the clan had appointed him a Dark Forest mentor, but it didn't seem like that was going to happen.

Scorchtalon's ears twitched as the younger cat sensed his presence, stepping out of the tall grass that had previously hidden his fluffy ginger form. He hadn't intended to spy on Ryepaw, he'd been out for a hunt by himself when the noise from apprentice's sparring session had scared away a hare Scorchtalon was attempting to stalk.

"It's just me." He said, facing Ryepaw with a hint of admiration in his eyes. Though he'd lost his mentor and was forced to live under the rule of the ghastly beings inhabiting the forest, he was still determined to hone his fighting skills. It reminded Scorchtalon a lot of himself when he was younger, though he worried that Ryepaw intended to use these moves against the Dark Forest occupants. Surely enough blood had been shed to make it clear that even the strongest warrior was no match for them alone,  but Scorchtalon remembered being an apprentice, willing to do anything to earn his clan's praise.

"You know, sparring works better when you have a partner. Unless of course, you're training to fight all the sticks in the forest." He joked, angling his ears toward the now-mangled branch.

Ryepaw relaxed as Scorchtalon stepped out of the tall grass. "Scorchtalon," he greeted the older cat. "I thought that you were Lionfur, although he would be welcome to join us as well." he purred. The silver tom really had nothing against the Dark Forest cats being in the camp, it was only Rashia that he had a problem with at all. She was a bully to the clans but not necessarily to himself.

As Scorchtalon joked about having a partner and then angeling his ears towards the now mangeled stick, he inwardly purred. "Of course Scorchtalon, but it seems that not many of the apprentices or warriors are wanting to practice their fighting skills during this whole thing."

"That can't be helped, fear can change the priorities of even the most dutiful warriors. However, it would be a shame to see such skills go to waste due to circumstances that are... beyond our control for the moment. If you're interested, I'd be willing to help."

Scorchtalon decidedly ignored Ryepaw's comment about Lionfur, though he was relieved. If the silver-furred apprentice was getting along with the Dark Forest warriors, at least that meant he wasn't in danger... yet. The realization that some of the younger warriors didn't remember a time when Starclan watched over the forest made him feel painfully old, but he still had many moons left to serve his clan. Starting with the continuation of Ryepaw's training. Windclan needed strong warriors now more than ever, and Scorchtalon was always happy to help any cat in need. He cocked his head, ginger tail flicking as he waited for an answer.

Ryepaw flicked his ear trying to give the impression that he didn't really care whether Scorchtalon was willing to teach him, but inside the silver tom was jumping with joy at the thought that this great warrior was going to teach him. "That is true and the fact that we are short on warrior's right now, well at least the living warrior's." he joked. "On a serious note, I would be willing to learn a few moves from a warrior like yourself."

"In that case..." Scorchtalon murmured, dropping low to the ground as he prepared to strike.

"Why don't I give you a real sparring partner." Without giving Ryepaw a chance to react, Scorchtalon bunched his muscles and leaped at the apprentice, keeping his claws carefully sheathed.

The servil-like apprentice blinked in surprise and moved, but not quick enough. The warrior of Windclan landed a striking blow on his shoulder. "Well, I cant see that you are eager to give me a partner." he retorted as he turned around and swiped at the warrior with his claws in.

Scorchtalon shook off the sting of Ryepaw's blow, before lashing out and delivering his own in return.

"I'm afraid I might've gotten a bit rusty myself." Scorchtalon admitted. "There's no such thing as too much practice."

Ryepaw didn't dodge the attack again, this time being hit with the tom's front paw. "Well," he said turning around to face him, "It seems that you have more practice that I do." He ran forwards and headbutted Scorchtalon right in the flank, trying to knock the breath out of him.

Scorchtalon had begun to gloat his victory, letting his guard down only to be taken by surprise when something slammed into his flank. He stumbled in surprise, before whirling around to quickly catch Ryepaw's tail between his teeth.
