Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony   Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony EmptyTue 13 Apr 2021 - 22:15

Bloodstrike leaped to the top of the Leader's Den and let his voice ring out across camp. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather for a clan meeting!" He looked fairly calm on the surface, but his insides were on fire and his mind was screeching for blood. How dare that insolent, stars-cursed fox-hearted rat do this to Smokefeather? He had been seething for days while Smokefeather tried to heal from her injuries, but then Beechface finally made it known that her limp wasn't going to go away. Smokefeather, tired and drained and unbelievably furious about that revelation, had asked Bloodstrike to just give her an elder ceremony. It hadn't been an easy decision for the she-cat that was once his mate to do, and it broke Bloodstrike's heart just as much as it fueled his seething rage.

Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony   Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony EmptyTue 13 Apr 2021 - 22:30

Smokefeather was sick and tired of being in the medicine den. She was sick and tired of the fussing, of the pain, of watching her idiot former mate struggle while she could do nothing. She was sick of things going wrong, sick of tragedy after tragedy that seemed to befall the clan- her family- with no end in sight. Copperfox was dead, but at least he'd gone peacefully. Maybe he'd lucked out, no longer having to deal with the monster-wreck that was this family.

Dawnhawk had fled after attacking her, and Smokefeather no longer regretted a thing she had said to him. Her only regret was that her claws had missed his throat.

Bloodstrike's call split the air and her ears flicked back. Smokefeather had begrudgingly told him to make her an elder, she just wanted this over with. It had become obvious that her leg wasn't going to heal, even before Beechface had voiced it. Even now she could hardly put weight on that leg for more than a moment before it buckled, and so she limped towards Wolfstar's den with the limb carefully held off the ground and close to her body. Her balance on three legs had improved and she wasn't as shaky, but even that small victory had worn down the last of her patience. Fitting, she supposed, with how worn she already looked, why not be worn down mentally and emotionally, as well as physically?

Smokefeather's tail twitched in bitter impatience for Bloodstrike to start this farce of a ceremony.

Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony   Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony EmptyTue 13 Apr 2021 - 22:43

Bloodstrike watched Smokefeather limp her way over. Once again, he felt sick with guilt that he hadn't killed Dawnhawk at the river and livid that his son... No. Dawnhawk... would do this to Smokefeather. His claws buried deep into whatever part of the leader's den would give way beneath them. Smokefeather wanted this over with quickly, so he would do this as fast as possible. I'm so sorry my l- .. Smokefeather. Things were emotional and tense right now, but he needed to not let his heart rule his head. He desperately wanted to hold and comfort her, but he knew that they had had a clean break already. Giving in to his own emotional whims might just make the situation worse and confuse her more. I have failed you and I am so sorry...

"Today we are gathered to witness the retirement of an honorable and brave warrior." Bloodstrike looked to Smokefeather. He wouldn't draw this out, but he thought she deserved at least some recognition and acknowledgement. "Smokefeather, is it your wish to retire from the life of a warrior and join the elder's den?" The words left his mouth and his soul shattered into a million pieces. This wasn't fair. This wasn't right. She had made mistakes but this was far from something she deserved...

Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony   Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony EmptyTue 13 Apr 2021 - 23:04

Honorable and brave? Bloodstrike was a fool. Smokefeather might've been that once, but no longer. She couldn't even approach the nursery without panicking. She avoided her own grandkits, and had been downright hostile to Tornpaw for the crime of looking like her father. She'd gotten Featherkit killed because she had snapped at Dawnhawk. Honor and bravery? He was delusional, or she was hearing things.

"It is." Smokefeather lied, voice flat, devoid of emotion. It wasn't a convincing lie, even to herself. This ceremony was just a formality, she hadn't requested this of her own free will. She was younger that Bloodstrike by a few moons, and was being forced to retire due to a stars-cursed injury. A cat with three good legs had no place in the trees, and even hunting on the ground would be next to impossible. Maybe the ceremony evoked some sense of pity from the onlookers, maybe some of the younger members of the clan actually believed the nonsense that Bloodstrike had spoken about her. Smokefeather was beyond caring.

The irony of her former mate performing this ceremony was not lost on her. She'd shared his ambitions, once, and had thought she would stand by his side as a warrior. Instead she had been tossed aside by sheer stubborn, ill-thought-out idiocy. And now she'd languish in the elder's den.

At least one of them had gotten a fraction of what they had wanted.

Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony   Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony EmptyTue 13 Apr 2021 - 23:14

Bloodstrike had been with Smokefeather for a long time. He could practically read her mind. Her flat tone sliced through him worse than any Asylum cat's claws ever could. Did she even realize how much this was killing him? Maybe she didn't. Or maybe she did and didn't care. I should have killed him... He thought to himself, again remembering seeing Dawnhawk by the river. Every time he allowed his emotions to guide him... Every. Time. He regretted it. Bloodstrike sighed a silent sigh, one that moved his entire diaphragm to the maximum size it could go.

"Your clan honors you and thanks you for your service. I call upon Starclan to give you many moons of... peace and rest." He put emphasis on the word peace, trying desperately to reach Smokefeather somehow. He sat down on the leader's den and said no more on the matter...

Instead, his mind became clouded with rage. I messed this up... I have to fix it as much as I can. Nothing would fix Smokefeather's leg, but... he could prevent this from happening to other cats in his clan. It was his duty as deputy to ensure his clan's safety, just as much as it was Wolfstar's or anyone else's.

And that meant putting emotional attachments aside.

Bloodstrike jumped down from the leader's den and approached Wolfstar, flames in his green eyes.

"I know you said to kill Dawnhawk on sight if he was seen on Skyclan territory..." He whispered to the leader. His claws buried themselves into the dirt. "I ask permission to take one other warrior with me, hunt him down and kill him where ever he is. I won't trespass onto clan territory, if some clan was actually insane enough to have accepted him, but I want this to end. It has to."

Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony   Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony EmptyTue 13 Apr 2021 - 23:39

Smokefeather's elder ceremony had been no surprise to Wolfstar. Since returning with the injury, he'd been following her recovery with baited breath, hoping, praying to StarClan that this wouldn't be the end of the she-cat's warrior life. Despite his pleas, however, it seemed that StarClan was out of mercy on this day. When Bloodstrike asked, the leader was happy to allow him to perform the ceremony. He'd much prefer naming elders who actually wanted to be elders.

He watched the exchange from the back of the gathered cats with a crestfallen expression. This wasn't fair. Not to Smokefeather, or to SkyClan. She had been one of their most talented hunters, one of their most loyal warriors, and now she was doomed to languish in the elders' den. All because of a traitor that he should have killed moons ago. He'd had a chance. He'd had multiple chances. And he'd have given half his lives to accomplish it.

Once the deed was done, and the clan had started to disperse, Wolfstar rose, half tempted to go on a solo hunt, just to clear his head. But as Bloodstrike approached him, the leader stopped, head tilted in question as the warrior approached. Wolfstar nodded at his suggestion, "Take two with you... Tigersong, and..." he flicked his gaze around the clearing, settling on his grandson's form. "Lichenpaw. He's nearly a warrior, and he needs to reacquaint himself with SkyClan."

Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony Empty
PostSubject: Re: Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony   Smokefeather's Elder Ceremony EmptyWed 14 Apr 2021 - 0:02

The emphasis on 'peace' as Bloodstrike spoke wasn't lost on Smokefeather. She wasn't sure she knew what the word meant, anymore. She hadn't known peace, not for a long time. She wasn't sure she'd know it anytime in the future either, truthfully. How could she, when Dawnhawk breathed? How could she, when Bloodstrike had her heart between his claws? Did he even know?

Against her better judgement, dull eyes lifted to meet his for a brief second, Smokefeather's expression clouded with grief and pain and rage, and sorrow that she didn't have the strength to hide. Not from him. She hated the ache in her chest at the expression on Bloodstrike's face. He'd tossed her aside and still managed to tear at her heart. Dark forest take them both.

Smokefeather turned away quickly, blinking as she limped towards the elder's den. Unshed tears stung her eyes, but she wouldn't let them fall for the entire clan to see. She was aware of Bloodstrike's paws hitting the ground behind her as he jumped from Wolfstar's den. She resisted the urge to look over her shoulder, and slowly limped her way inside the den.
