A Nice Hunt (CLOSED for Your Every Day Cat)

Shrikesong walked to the apprentice's den, ready to wake up her new apprentice. Training new apprentices always brought a smile to her face, and seeing them grow into great warriors was always fulfilling. Still, I don't know how exactly I'm doing with my apprentice. Either way, it was time for her to train a new apprentice, Orangepaw. Walking inside the den, she called to her apprentice. "Orangepaw, it's time to get up," she said. "We're gonna go hunting today. Does that sound good?" She thought that her apprentice would be excited to go and hunt with her, but the brown she-cat was willing to change her mind if Orangepaw chose not to wake up.

OrangePaw woke up and heard his mentor and went over to them “sounds good” he said
“What are we hunting first?”

Shrikesong smiled. "I'm not sure. It's leaf-bare, so we will have to take whatever the seasons give us." The brown she-cat knew that it wasn't going to be easy to find prey in this time, and so they needed every cat to contribute. I'm looking at you, Asylum. To be fair, they were contributing... sometimes. Shrikesong hated Asylum, but at least some of them pulled their own weight instead of just watching Clan cats.

The reasons why Shrikesong hated Asylum were numerous, and many of them were indistinguishable to the young she-cat. Really, she was blaming them for everything that had happened in late leaf-fall: Harefoot's death and Laurelkit's disappearance, to be exact. Harefoot's death was obviously not Asylum's fault, but she felt so angry at them that it definitely could have been. 

Either way, it was time to lead her apprentice to ThunderClan territory. The Asylum cat that was following her was none of her concern, and although she hated their presence in ThunderClan, they had to come along whenever a ThunderClan cat left camp. Eventually, she led Orangepaw to a clearing in ThunderClan territory. "This seems like a good place to learn how to hunt," she said. "The first step to hunting is being able to distinguish scents in the air," she said, sniffing the air for prey. "For example, do you smell that? It seems like there's a mouse nearby."

Turning her head towards where she thought the scent was coming from, the brown she-cat got into a hunter's crouch. "The second step to hunting is a solid hunter's crouch," she said. Tracking the mouse, the warrior got closer and closer to the scent. "Once you're close enough, you can go and... pounce on the prey!" Shrikesong leapt at the mouse, trying to catch it. Landing right on the mouse, Shrikesong grinned. "And that's how you catch prey," she said. "Now you try. If you need help, you can ask me." The brown she-cat thought that her apprentice would be able to do well, but if he needed help, she was willing to offer it.

Shrikesong attempted to catch a mouse, costing 5 stamina. Catch was a success!

When Shrikesong watched Orangepaw lunge for the mouse, she noticed gray-and-black stripes run at Orangepaw. Reacting quickly to the attack, the young she-cat pounced at the beast, striking it down. If it was an Asylum cat, she'd apologize to them, but she didn't think it behaved like a cat would. Slashing at the small raccoon, she knew that she was in fact fighting a predator. It's not what I wanted to do today, but I guess Orangepaw can learn fighting while something's going on.

"Okay, Orangepaw, I guess it's time to learn how to fight," she said. "The first thing I can tell you is to stay alert. Don't stand in one place for too long, since you're vulnerable to an attack when that happens." Memories flashed back to when she was an apprentice, fighting that owl with Pinefrost and Crowcaller. Pinefrost saved her from a potential fatal attack by the owl, and she couldn't be more grateful to the late warrior. I hope he finds solace in the stars. Right now, of course, she needed to take down this raccoon.

The raccoon bit her back, hard. The she-cat winced, but she needed to stay strong to have a chance at defeating it.

Shrikesong used Jumping Strike on Raccoon, dealing 10 damage and costing 20 stamina.

OrangePaw looked surprised a raccoon had just interrupted his attempt to catch a mouse! So OrangePaw did as his mentor said and also attempted to attack the raccoon

Shrikesong smirked, staring at the hurt predator. It's not going to be easy to defeat it. Although the raccoon was hurt, it could still strike both Shrikesong and her apprentice severely, which would definitely not be good. Better dodge its attack and strike back. When the raccoon tried to attack Shrikesong again, the young she-cat dodged away with ease. Sadly, she couldn't get a good hit on the raccoon, but it was still a good choice.

Shrikesong used Dodge-and-Fight on Raccoon, costing 10 stamina.

Shrikesong smiled at her apprentice. He was in fact doing very well in battle for a cat of his age. As the raccoon began stumbling, the warrior smirked. "Now, it's time for us to take down the raccoon for good." Launching at the raccoon, the brown she-cat sank her teeth into its neck, bringing it down. As the life of the beast ebbed away, Shrikesong nodded at her apprentice. "If you want, we can bury this raccoon and bring it back with us once we've finished hunting."

OOC: since you rolled a predator, i think that you have to roll hunting dice again before you officially get the hunting requirement.
