What are the duties of a medicine cat? : IC: Beechkit's belief (once she gets over herself) is that medicine cats are among the most important members of a clan and equally as important as any warrior. They are healers, midwives, and to some extent, prophets that communicate with Starclan. While a warrior protects the clan from the frontlines, a medicine cat protects their clan from the rear, healing the wounded, tending to the sick, and ensuring that their clanmates are healthy. In short, they make sure there is a clan that's alive and kicking. You can have the best leader and the strongest warriors, but if they all fall victim to injury and illness, who defends the elders, and queens, and kits? A skilled medicine cat protects their clan and the future of the clan just as much as any warrior.
OOC: First and foremost, medicine cats are healers. Keeping their clan healthy is their job, and is pretty much in the name.
What would you do with this position? : IC: Beechkit is initially deeply resentful of the position. She will either complete or nearly-complete her warrior training first, and her desire to prove herself has done her good as an apprentice. She didn't expect to be called to serve as a medicine cat, and had always been set on becoming a warrior. Being chosen for the position of medicine cat is deeply disconcerting and causes her to have doubt. As a result, she goes from being friendly and warm (if sometimes a grump and maybe too focused on wanting to prove herself) to being very harsh on herself and far more prickly. She'll likely lash out at whoever her former mentor is (why are they okay with losing an apprentice? Did they not think she was good enough to become a warrior?) and is generally deeply frustrated with having the rug ripped from beneath her paws when she was so close to becoming a warrior (or possibly is already a warrior?). Still, she is grimly determined to keep her clan safe. While it's not until she actually saves someone or helps in a meaningful way that she realizes how important a medicine cat is for the survival of the clan, Beechkit (or Beechpaw/Beechface) does take her new responsibilities seriously. She's stern with the injured and sick, and quite strict in how she wants a cat to be at their best, physically, before leaving her den. She's short-tempered and has little patience for those who want to get out of the den as early as possible. She sympathizes, but also won't let them risk reopening their wounds or aggravating an illness. She can and will come down harshly on what she views as needlessly flea-brained activities just for the sake of having fun that have a high risk of injury, and likely won't be viewed favorably by most excitable, ambitious apprentices. She is okay with that, so long as her clanmates are kept safe. For all the grumpiness, Beechface is very much willing to fight for her clan. She takes it very hard when a clanmate is lost, and likely won't be okay if it was a death that could have been avoided easily. If anything, this drives her harder to protect her clan to the extent that her abilities will allow.
OOC: I plan to be active in the position (as I am active with my other character(s)), and as this is a high-ranking character, her threads (moonstones especially) would take priority. Beech, for all the beechiness and joking in discord about the name, is a character I will be committed to rping actively.
Why you think you deserve this position? : IC: Beech doesn't think she- or any cat- "deserves" to be in their position unless it is based purely on merit. She is quite outspoken that she's unhappy at first, but as she settles into the role, she will be committed to her duties, and for her, this commitment is more important than someone thinking she deserves or doesn't deserve to be where she is currently.
OOC: While I'm a relatively newer member to wcc, I can be active and give the position the attention it deserves. Beechkit wouldn't be a very traditional medicine cat, but I think it would open up a ton of possibility for rp in Skyclan as well to have a medicine cat who won't hesitate to call others out on their decisions and who is fiercely determined to see her clan safe at all costs. I've also rped high-ranks on other warriors rps before, including medicine cats specifically.
