Silver Linings [Closed]

Honeytongue settled down, curling her tail around her paws as Silverpaw dropped into a crouch and started her own attempts at mastering the hunting crouch. "Very good," she praise as she finally got it down, before her ears twitched at the same scratching sounds that caught her apprentice's attention. She glanced around as she tried to pin-point it, remaining still as Silverpaw started to stalk around. Finally she saw it, a thrush that seemed to be pecking and scratching at the ground for signs of a meal.

However, it didn't last long until Silverpaw accidentally sent a loose pebble rolling and the thrush took into the air with a surprise squawk. She gave the silver she-cat a soft smile as Silverpaw turned to head back to her, pushing herself back to her paws. "That was a good attempt - you'll get a hang of it soon enough with more training. We aren't really meant for hunting on land but its always nice to have that option - mostly when the river does freeze over. Now...I think we've done enough hunting for today. We should get the fish back to camp and to the sick. If the fresh-kill pile looks well stocked tomorrow, I can show you around the territory instead."

Silverpaw was still annoyed at her own failure, but Honeytongue seemed to brush it off easily, so Silverpaw allowed herself to relax as well. Honeytongue spoke, and Silverpaw nodded along rather absentmindedly. She let a small sigh escape her before looking to her mentor. In Honeytongue's green eyes, Silverpaw saw compassion, and she decided to make her thoughts known. Silverpaw slowly walked in the direction of the RiverClan camp, pausing a few seconds later and glancing up at Honeytongue. "I'm... I'm scared, Honeytongue," she whispered, biting her lip. "About RiverClan, and those horrid Righteous Few, and the plague..." she took a deep breath and sighed before continuing in a slow pace in the direction of camp, hoping Honeytongue would listen, and that she hadn't just embarrassed herself in front of a cat she respected.

Honeytongue had back-tracked a little to grab their fish and lay them across her back and was padding back toward Silverpaw when the apprentice spoke up. She blinked, pausing for a moment before she sighed softly. She closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath before she pressed forward. "I think we all are, Silverpaw," she admitted quietly as she caught up to her apprentice. "What is happening is...I've heard nothing of anything like this before. All of us are scared in our own ways, even if some are to proud to admit it." She shook her head, before she turned to give the young she-cat a soft smile. "But...I've learned that focusing on the pain, the fear it...Its important to respect and understand those feelings but its also important not to dwell in them. To think of the happiness that you have now, the small things that make everything worth it. The fear will always be there but its best not to let it control you. You aren't alone, Silverpaw. Not in your fears but also simply not...Alone. We will get through this together, I just know it."
