Storms On The Water [Closed]

The sky was clear, the sun burning bright in the bright blue sky but there were traces of storm clouds on the horizon. A soft wind blew through the territories, leaves and reeds shaking in its gentle wake. There was a gentle purr from Honeypaw as the wind ruffled her pelt, causing her to halt as she closed her eyes in gentle bliss until it had passed. She had decided to head to Sunningrocks, to bask in the sun before the storm clouds reached them...But had decided to take the time to check the borders, to walk along the shore of the river.

But little did she know what would be waiting for her at Sunningrocks once she finally reached there...

Stormpaw had headed for Sunningrocks to do a bit of hunting. She knew she was a little bit on the short side seeing how she had been out patroling for most of the day but she knew hunting and maybe sunning on the rocks would help her a bit. She stood on one of the rocks her mouth open, smelling for scents of maybe a rodent or two. After that she would get some fish. Hopefully she wouldn't be disturbed by anyone else, but it didn't seem like luck would be on her side.

Houndpaw had pulled away from the hunting patrol he was on in search of something more exciting than seeking out the scents of prey. Even though he was a much better tracker than his father, the young tom hardly had the patience for such a thing, at least in the long term. He wasn't a bad hunter by any means, it just struggled to keep his mind at attention. And soon he found himself flirting with the edges of the border. Sunningrocks was there. Elders had told him the tales of wars fought over these stones. His grey gaze peered over the stony shore and landed on the grey pelted she-cat there. Prey was ahead. He could smell it as easily as she could. Why should Riverclan get the prey on this side of the river? Weren't they fat enough already stuffing themselves on smelly fish? A flash of indignance sent him flying forward and into the side of the Riverclanner. Houndpaw did not even consider the fact that he had crossed the border as he did so. Within a moment he was pinning her to the ground.

The tom's eyes widened for a moment as he realized what he had done. Normally, he had an indifferent nature when it came to fighting. But after his battle with the Skyclan cat, Houndpaw had come to one realization: he hated the humiliation of losing. Without the battle-ready claws of his father and a much less mindless fighting style, the young tabby wasn't about to tear into this cat. He simple wanted to show her who was the superior cat. There were hints of fear deep within the depth of his gaze, but as he clung to her back on the rock, he did tried to show the strength of his lanky frame. There was muscle there, some strength that the usual wild cat possessed, but not much. Hopefully it was enough to keep her down, and to win the fight, and he tried not to think of it otherwise.

There was a sound that caught Honeypaw's ears, causing her to stop at the water's bank. For a second, she heard only the gentle lapping of the water, the rustling of the nearby reeds...And suddenly a bird broke through the reeds, causing her to drop into a startled crouch as it soar toward the forest. She huffed, watching it go as she licked her shoulders, trying to get the hair that had prickled at the scare to lay down. She sighed, picking up the pace as she continued on her trek, slowly making her way closer and closer to Sunningrocks.

Stormpaw wasn't expecting some Thunderclanner to come crossing the border so easily. A gasp left the Riverclan apprentice as she was pinned down, a weight heavy on her back. She couldn't tell who exactly her attacker was, all she knew was the scent of Thunderclan was filling her nose. She let out a growl as she pushed herself to move. She needed to escape the cat's grasp. She could feel that he wasn't as strong as usual so it must have been another apprentice like her. Sharp words sat on the tip of her tongue but there was no way she was speaking just yet.

Stormpaw is trapped.

He continued to hold her down, claws sinking in deeper, as he reveled in the satisfaction of the win. The back of his mind nagged that this was something he shouldn't have been doing. But the hedonistic part of him did not care. This was what he wanted. Houndpaw was actually winning this time and he was beating a Riverclan cat at that. Shoving away any insecurities, he let out a taunting hiss, "How comfortable are your lazing rocks now? Bet you could fight better if you weren't stuffed with fish, foxbreath."

Honeypaw came to a stop as she stared across the river at the towering trees that ThunderClan called home. She had actually yet to properly meet a ThunderClan cat...Or a WindClan at that matter. Her tail swished as she eyed the forest for any movement - any passing patrols before she huffed in disappointment when there was no clear sign. She couldn't help but enjoy the idea of meeting and perhaps befriending a cat from each Clan! She had Marshpaw from ShadowClan and Beanpaw from SkyClan...But she knew that there was some tension between ThunderClan and RiverClan...Tension over Sunningrocks as always. Speaking of...She shook her head, finally continuing her trek toward the rocks. She would be there soon enough.

She didn't know what to do. One attack from the tom had her weak. Why was she so weak? Why couldn't she do anything? She was frustrated. She was a disappointment to her clan that was for sure. Being beaten by a Thunderclan apprentice on her own territory. She let out a growl as she finally shoved the tom off of her. The wounds he left bleeding. Her chest heaving as she panted.

Stormpaw is no longer stunned.

The Riverclan cat finally found her footing, shoving him aside. His chest fluttered with hints of panic. This was her territory after all. While his opponent seemed rather weak, Houndpaw had no way of knowing for sure how much fight she had left in her. Riverclanners were known for being vicious and for making quick work of their opponents. An apprentice had been killed in battle here, before right? At least, the elders wove tales of such a thing. He swallowed and steeled away what resolve he had buried inside. This was no time to give up on the fight. Houndpaw was the son of a deputy, and the leader himself had attempted to raise him. If anything, he had to have all the strength of Thunderclan in him. She didn't say anything and in his discomfort, teasing came once more, "Why won't you fight me, fish pelt? Out of breath already?" As the words left his maw, Houndpaw turned in a swift move that even surprised him as his hindpaws shot out and scored her underbelly. His own breathing came in slow and shallow gasps as he stopped. Perhaps it would be best to run. But his stubborn heart dictated he stand his ground. Wrong move.

Finally, the river took a turn and she followed the bend, Sunningrocks coming into sight. Her ears perked at the sight, the rocks almost gleaming in the sunlight...Before she came to a halt and realized there were two darken shapes on the rocks. Her eyes narrowed against the sunlight as she slowly padded along the bank, trying to grab a glimpse of who were on the rocks, figuring them to be Clanmates...Before the sound of fighting caught her ears and she recognized the pinned shape. "Stormpaw!" she gasped, wasting no time as she dove into the water. Quietly and skillfully, she swam to the other side of the bank, pulling herself up as the water slide from her sleek pelt.

She didn't recognize who was attacking her friend but a quick taste of the air told her it was a ThunderClan tom. She crouched, relieved that she hadn't caught either of their attentions as she slowly worked her way toward them, trying to gather what had happened. Finally, she came to the conclusion that it didn't matter as she broke into a sprint as she watched him rake his claws down her belly determined to stop this fight. "Leave her alone!" she yowled as she came sailing over the rocks, ramming into the ThunderClan apprentice's side in an effort to make some space between the two.

She quickly landed on her paws, scrambling between Stormpaw and the tom as she glared at him. "What do you think you are doing? You've crossed the border, you know," she said in a low voice, ears slicked back. She paused, glancing back at Stormpaw. The apprentice looked worn and tired. She couldn't tell if she had any serious injuries, but she was certain that she had lost the fight. She sighed, her form relaxing as she turned her head to fix the ThunderClan apprentice with a sad look. "I think you've done enough. Go back to to your territory, please, before somebody else shows up and makes this worst then it has to be."

Honeypaw used Run-and-tackle on Houndpaw, dealing 9 damage and costing 10 stamina. (Regular 6 + 3 for opponent not being focused on them)

Stormpaw scrambled away from the tom as soon as she felt his claws in her stomach. She was badly hurt. Barely hanging on to consciousness. Relief filled her as soon as Honeypaw had appeared, breaking the tom away from her and creating some space. As much as she wanted to dig her claws into the tom she couldn't. She didn't have enough energy to do so if she wanted to make it across the river again and make it home.

Her amber eyes locked onto Houndpaw. A fire sat in them, daring the tom to challenge the two Riverclan apprentices. If he as so much made a move to hurt Honeypaw, Stormpaw didn't care if she lost her life, the tom would pay. Hurting her was one thing but hurting someone as sweet as Honeypaw? No. She wouldn't stand for it. A low growl rumbled in her throat, her claws scraping the rock, waiting to see what would happen next. She was giving the tom a chance to leave.

He'd been prepared to the honey-sweet taste of success that would come from one more blow of his claws. But it never came. Instead, some awesome force slammed into his side and sent him flying off his opponent. A hiss broke from his maw and he shook his head, slightly daze by the action, as he regained footing. When Houndpaw's vision cleared, it seemed there were now two Riverclan cats. Houndpaw was an ignorant cat in many ways but not enough so to believe he could continue the challenge presented. His ears flatted, "Just you wait, you fat fish-breaths... one of these days the rocks will be ours again. The border is the river after all! Then you'll be begging me for a moment on the precious sunningstones!" The venom in his voice was somewhat forced in order to mask the uncertainty he felt at being outnumber. With that, the apprentice turned and bolted back over the border.

With the tom's biting words and quick retreat, Honeypaw felt relief flood through her body as she allowed herself to relax, ears perking as she waited for the sound of pawsteps to fade. She shook her head, wishing that there was some way for ThunderClan and RiverClan to have peace - she understood the glamour of the rocks and she was thankful that RiverClan called it their own but...Was it really worth spilling blood over? Speaking of... Her nose crinkled at the rich, metallic scent that was rolling off of Stormpaw as she turned to face her companion.

"Thank StarClan that I arrived when I did, what was that tom thinking..." she sighed as she slowly approached her friend, staring at the sharp wounds that split her friends' pelt and dyed the gray fur crimson. "Sweet Pike...." she gasped softly as she gently nudged at Stormpaw's shoulder, directing her toward the river. "Come on, we need to get you back to the camp and get Mistlepaw to patch you up. Do you think you are up for walking on your own or do you need to lean on me? Is any of them life-threatening you think? I can always run ahead and grab Mistlepaw if you think so..." she gushed, eyes flickering with worry for Stormpaw as she made sure to stick close, not caring if stained her own fur with blood.
