Nightkit's Apprentice Ceremony

From atop the Tallbranch, Mistyrain repeated a familiar phrase that would bring SkyClan together for a ceremony that always meant something hopeful to the deputy. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting!" It was Nightkit's turn to receive his apprentice name, as he was just over 6 moons old now. She watched the Nursery exit for his kit-sized form so that she could continue the ceremony.

His small, black-furred form emerging into the clearing of SkyClan camp, Nightkit glanced up at the source of the call that had just rung throughout camp, a grey-and-white-furred figure against the Tallbranch. He had heard the phrase many times, though sometimes voiced by a different tone, but only recently had he started obeying it due to his growing age. Nevertheless, it barely made a change in his day, so he simply walked towards the gathering cats and sat down, waiting for the announcement to continue.

She spotted the kit's black pelt approaching, so she cleared her throat and began. "Nightkit, please step forward." She gave him a moment to do so, and once he was beneath her she continued. "You have reached the age of 6 moons and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From now on until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Nightpaw. Clearshine will be your mentor, and I trust that he will pass on to you everything that he can." She nodded to Clearshine, and then raised her voice to congratulate the newly-apprenticed tom with the rest of the Clan.

Clearshine hadn't really been paying attention to the ceremony. He had noticed a shiny beetle that the sunlight reflected off of nicely, making a small rainbow appear over it. So his attention was occupied with that until he heard his own name called. A mentor? To whom? Looking around, he saw the small black tom beneath the Tallbranch, and made the educated guess that he was the new apprentice. Padding over to the newly named Nightpaw, he touched noses with the smaller tom. How was he supposed to be a mentor?

The newly-named apprentice looked around nervously for the cat he would now call his mentor, his apprehension increasing until he spotted green eyes resting on his own golden ones, only then relaxing his nerves. He stretched his neck to touch noses with the striped tom, a smile slightly framing Nightpaw's own features. "I look forward to training under you, mentor."
