Why We Love Roleplay

Roleplay has been a common theme throughout everything i like- from Wings of Fire Scholastic board(in the good old days) to WCC to D&D, I love to roleplay. But why? Why do we do what we do?

• It allows us to make our own stories. A step down from authorship, we create our own stories and start to learn what is good for plot and what isn't. It helps improve writing skill because it's like writing a book, but without the commitment. We can forge our own way.
  
• Everyone is realistic. Mostly, there's no one or two main characters and some undeveloped side characters(though there are a few NPCs for when needed). In roleplays like this, everyone has a complex and interesting personality, like in real life, which just makes it more fun.
  
• It gives insight from different perspectives. Rather than one single writing style and type of character, bland in one author's ideas, we have the ideas of dozens of different people, making a diverse bunch of characters.
  
• It's more open. The only limits are what you set for yourself. With books, there are certain things you can't do. But as long as everyone participating is okay with it, it's limitless.

Here's my main reason that I love roleplay

It allows us to be someone else. Everyone has stress in their life, and role-play is a time where you can be someone with fictional problems. That doesn't only provide a method of coping with difficult times in life, but it also helps to build empathy and being able to feel like you're in a situation besides your own.
