The Trial [CLOSED] Empty
PostSubject: The Trial [CLOSED]   The Trial [CLOSED] EmptyMon Feb 25, 2019 9:43 am

The night was cold but it was going to end soon. In just a few hours, the sun will rise not only to announce a new day but to also come with the resolution of all this mess. The leader lifted his head a second when they finally reached the dark entrance of the tunnels toward the Moonstone. For a second, he viewed himself as the young apprentice who crossed that black path and then, as the deputy before he received his nine lives. From that day, he had never face Starclan again and kept running from the ancestors and the truth that tormented him every day. What would they think of him? Was he even going to be welcomed by the starry plains? Was he going to see Ivystar? So many questions with answers that the leader had avoided for so long.

A shiver ran through his spine as he forced his paws to move forward into the jaws of the unknown. Following Goldeneye's guidance, Jaystar walked with Scorchclaw through the tunnels. In other times, the tom only saw in it an obscure and wet couple of rocks under the mountains. But now, the silver-furred cat felt in every corner his own demons lurking in the dark, haunting him and repeating in his mind all of his mistakes. Not even the cold light of the Moonstone gave him any comfort. The white rock held inside its enigmatic nature the jury of tonight. However, the Riverclan leader wasn't afraid of it. He was just nervous about the result. Starclan could strip him of his lives, kill him in an instant if they wanted to. They could send them straight to the Dark Forest just like they did with Lichenmask. Jaystar was ready to give up his position if it was needed but not to die so suddenly. He made his way to the rock, silent and laid down in front of it. "It's time." He mewed to the other two cats who were going to fall asleep just like him in a few moments.

The tom closed his green eyes when the other two cats settled down next to him. Slowly, he touched with the tip of his nose the shiny stone and soon felt his mind and body go away far from this realm. For a few seconds, it seemed like he was floating. The world around him didn't feel real and he couldn't fully connect any idea to another. However, as fast he reached that state, he was thrown back again to reality.

The cat opened his eyes hyperventilated, the sudden rush of adrenaline making his heart beat faster. When he finally calmed down, Jaystar recognized the land where he was laying and he stood up, admiring once again the beauty of Starclan. It felt like an old dream but this time he wasn't alone. The feline soon found the deputy and medicine cat laying not too far from him and he reached them both before their ancestors could make their appearance. Jaystar turned his face to the starry shapes that approached him and he stood up in front of the small group to face them. The Starclan cats slowly took their form and his faces soon could be recognized. "I think you know why we're here." The tom mewed with a tired voice to the starry warriors.

The Trial [CLOSED] Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Trial [CLOSED]   The Trial [CLOSED] EmptyWed Feb 27, 2019 8:36 am

By the time Mothermouth's pitch-black darkness finally yawned before the three RiverClan cats, they were already well into the night. Not one of them had caught a wink of sleep ever since the start of the Gathering hours and hours before. Scorchclaw should have been exhausted by now. At the very least, he should have felt the threads of weariness begin to tangle around his limbs, weighing him down. If he did feel such physical effects, however, he was barely aware of them. His mind was too full of everything that had just happened. It was almost laughable how one's reality could collapse so quickly. One night—that was all it took, and that was all it had taken. Mintwhisker's exposition at the Gathering, the confession within Jaystar's den; now the trial that would soon commence at Highstones. Even at that moment, the fluffy deputy was still struggling to absorb everything that had happened. Before that night, he had believed in and respected Jaystar and Goldeneye. StarClan had seen it fit to expose their sins in the most disastrous way possible, however, and now their relationship was dyed with the color of betrayal. How easily trust was broken. His stony expression barely shifting, he followed his leader and medicine cat into the tunnel.

Upon stepping into the darkness, the icy winds were abruptly cut off. Before long, all noise from the outside world faded away, and they were walking in near-silence. Setting down one large paw after another, Scorchclaw felt his way down the smooth stone path he had already traversed numerous times. The stale air, flavored with the scent of earth and dust, seemed to clog his nostrils. The lack of sight gave his thoughts free roam. They drummed against the insides of his mind, seeming to snake through the darkness. Conversation could have made their trip easier, but not one cat was in the mood for it. The large tabby had never liked being underground, and he likely never would. When, at last, the gleam of the Moonstone greeted their weary eyes, he did not feel much better.

Casting an icy glance towards Jaystar at the leader's words, Scorchclaw soon turned his attention back to the Moonstone. The moment of truth had come. For a moment, dread caused him to hesitate. When he had touched his nose to the Moonstone, what would await him on the other side? Only StarClan knew what punishment they would impose upon Jaystar and Goldeneye. For all he knew, the next time he opened his eyes in the waking world, he could be the new leader of RiverClan. At the thought, his mouth grew dry. He was not ready for such responsibility. Yet he would have no other choice if Jaystar were to be stripped of his lives. How much longer will you dawdle? How much longer will you spend in wavering indecisiveness? Gritting his teeth, the deputy steeled himself.

There was no going back now. There had never been any going back, ever since he had been appointed as the deputy, and ever since Duckpuddle had given her life for him. He touched his nose to the Moonstone.

The Trial [CLOSED] Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Trial [CLOSED]   The Trial [CLOSED] EmptyFri Mar 01, 2019 1:15 pm

The starry cat took the form of a dark-furred tom with bright blue eyes, cold as ice. The formerly Riverclan senior warrior stood up in front of the three living cats big and intimidating. When the leader spoke, he just nodded with no emotion. "Starclan has been watching you two. You've committed a great crime against our beliefs and what you swore to follow. There's no excuse to what you've done." Galewind mewed looking at Jaystar and Goldeneye with his empty eyes. A bunch of other shapes and eyes were behind him. Riverclan's ancestors looking over the two sinners in trial and their sole witness. Starclan already knew the purpose of the two cats. Why they were here. And they were going to give them exactly what they wanted.

The senior warrior sat down and lashed his tail, locking his eyes with Goldeneye's first: the medicine cat who broke the rules of her sacred rank. She was not the first one and sadly, she won't be the last one. But she was one of the few that was willingly going to accept Starclan's judgement. Brave and noble but that didn't make her crime any less grave. "You made a promise, Goldeneye, when you were chosen by Starclan. You broke the sacred laws of the medicine cats and with that, you decided to betray Starclan as well. However..." The starry warrior opened his eyes slightly and lifted his tail calmly. "You've finally decided to come here. Starclan has decided that your fate does not rest in the Dark Forest but you will be no longer a medicine cat. That is final. Fallowlight will take your responsibilities from now on." The shapes of the starclan cats behind him flickered, nodding at the final decision for the former medicine cat. "Since you lack the skills to be a warrior and you can't fulfill your former duties, you will live in the elder's den." With those last words, Goldneye's fate was settled. But there was one more to resolve.

The cold blue eyes met the shape of the silver tabby who was once named leader of Riverclan. Jaystar looked into the eyes of his father, too nervoud to actually greet him properly. "Your situation is slightly different but just like Goldeneye, you ran away and lied to everyone, giving your back to Starclan despite giving you the honour to be Riverclan's leader. What do you have to say in your defense, son?"

OOC: The effect dice will be used to define Jaystar's future as leader. 1-3 he loses all his lives but one and remain as leader. 4-6 Starclan forgives Jaystar, they let him have his lives but if he breaks the code one more time, he will go to the Dark Forest. Also, sorry for the rushed topic.

The leader merely lowered his head and looked at his father humbly, his ears flattened against his skull. "There's no excuse to my actions, as you said. I may have not broken the Warrior Code but I did disobey the laws of Starclan. I'm willing to accept any punishment you have for me but please... right now I only wish for the best of my clan. The clans must not know about this or Riverclan will be doomed. Those kits won't have a future... You can make Scorchclaw here leader if it must be that way but don't let my clan perish." He begged keeping his head down and his body language submissive. Now, he was just pawn of his ancestor and he would take everything they have planned for them.

Galewind in front of the silver tabby nodded and he took a step closer to his son. "Many leaders before you have lied, broke the Code yet they were welcomed to Starclan once again because they regretted it. Your mother, as you might know by now thanks to Lichenmask was one of them and now... you've committed the same mistakes of many ancestors before you. Starclan will strip your lives away, Jaystar but we won't take your rank." The dark tom touched his son's forehead and pressed his muzzle against it. A pain ran through Jaystar's body but he cointained a scream as his lives were slowly stripped away from him. When his father was done, the tom lifted his head, a little confused. Why was he leader of Riverclan after all? "Why?" He mewed shakingly, still recovering from the painful process. The senior did not answer inmediatly and the cats behind him started to walk away, fading in the distance. The trial was soon to be over and the three RiverClanners were close to leave this realm. "Despite all, you've been a good leader, Jaystar, believe it or not. You made mistakes, broke the law but you've been the only brave one enough to face it in life. To come here to face us. Starclan still see you and accept you as Riverclan's leader and your clan still need you. Your time is not over yet."

Not waiting from an answer of the stunned leader, the Starclan warrior quickly fixed his eyes on the witness. He made his way to Scorchclaw and locked eyes with him, keeping a serious expression. "Jaystar did a great job choosing you as deputy, Scorchclaw. One day, you'll make a fine leader but there's still a lot you need to learn before that. There's greatness in your future... but you need to let go sometimes and forgive as time passes. Stay by your leader's side until he exhales his last breath. Learn from his victories and mistakes." With that said, Galewind lashed his tail and in a tornado of chaos, all the stars faded away and the three cats were swept away from the starry woods back to the dark and wet cave.

OOC: Sorry for the double posting but just wanted to wrap everything before the flood topics continue. You can post with your reactions now ;D

The Trial [CLOSED] Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Trial [CLOSED]   The Trial [CLOSED] EmptySun Mar 10, 2019 6:56 pm

When Scorchclaw opened his eyes, he was once again in the starry meadow from his memories. The grass prickled against his thick pelt, and the rich scents of earth and various prey mingled in the air. If only these aspects were considered, the meadow was certainly a real, physical one. But the fluffy deputy knew better. Tiny pinpoints of light studded the scenery, just as they glimmered brightly in the pelts of the cats who had come forward to greet the RiverClan visitors. This place was undoubtedly StarClan territory, and these cats were undoubtedly the ancestors. Rising to his paws, the brown tabby directed a narrowed green gaze towards them. Right now, his role was nothing more than that of a simple observer.

As the trial begun, one StarClan cat stepped forward to represent the others. Scorchclaw studied him warily from where he stood, silent and tall by his clanmates' sides. First to be judged was Goldeneye. The RiverClan deputy felt no pity as her role was promptly stripped from her. Having broken the oath of a medicine cat, she had no right to remain as one. The moment she had thrust the Warrior Code aside, she had practically accepted the consequences. Fallowlight had proven herself capable in recent times, and RiverClan would have to look to her for healing from now onward. How powerless the mortal cats were before their ancestors! There was no way out, no argument that could be made. Scorchclaw let out a slow breath, casting an icy glance in Goldeneye's direction. He could not judge her reaction; not that he really needed to. Are you satisfied now? Was breaking the Code worth it? The questions would have rolled right off his tongue, had he not held them back at the last moment. Then it was Jaystar's turn. As the starry-furred tom turned to the RiverClan leader, Scorchclaw stiffened slightly. His heartbeat quickening, he sunk unsheathed claws into the ground in an attempt to compose himself. Here was the moment of truth.

"Starclan will strip your lives away, Jaystar but we won't take your rank."

In other words, RiverClan still needed Jaystar as their leader. Even if StarClan were to tear away the rest of his lives, they would still leave him one. Scorchclaw was not yet fit to take the role of leadership upon himself. He was simply not good enough. Jaystar might have been a liar, a coward, and a codebreaker, but he still made a better leader than Scorchclaw would. What was there to be surprised about, really? The fluffy deputy knew himself better than anyone else did, and that included many of his flaws. He had already experienced the results of his own incompetence. Still, the realization stung as if claws had been swiped across the brown tabby's cheek. He had never been a particularly ambitious cat; thus, he had never really desired the position of clan leader. He was simply a cat willing to do whatever his clan needed of him. Right now, his clan needed a better leader, but he was unable to give them even that. Frustrated but helpless, the large tabby clenched his jaws tightly. To his surprise, it seemed Galewind had words for him as well. What an honor! His message echoed that of Fawnsong's so many moons ago. "Thank you for your words of advice." Scorchclaw growled in a dangerously low voice.

Forgiveness? What was there to forgive? Who was he supposed to forgive—Alderstripe, Robinheart, Sweet, Shade, ThunderClan, Jaystar, Goldeneye, Lichenmask, or... even StarClan themselves? How utterly pathetic. If they thought he would forget everything they had done simply because he had been told to do so, they would be sorely mistaken. After all the pain and destruction, did they want him to go on living as if nothing had happened? it was impossible. They had no right; no right to demand anything of him. Yet these StarClan cats, sitting up on high, insisted that he learn to forgive! As the stars began to fade around him, and he felt the pull of reality tugging him back to the waking realm, Scorchclaw leveled a rage-filled glare at the ancestors. Those flashing green-eyes, so full of wrath, were the last thing to vanish from StarClan's sight.

Jerking awake, Scorchclaw stood. Across from him, Jaystar and Goldeneye had also risen. Without a word or glance at either of them, the brown tabby tom stalked off towards the tunnel.
