Swanpaw's Assessment (closed)

Closer to the water she had strayed from just a little, Swanpaw spotted a bit of green moving through the snow. A frog. But would a frog count? They lived on the land and in the water, so maybe not... She ignored it, then. Best not to focus on possibilities and instead on what she knew would count. A mouse. Was that the same mouse from earlier? She doubted it, but there it was. She got into her hunting crouch, moved closer, and prepared to pounce. As she did so, however, she failed spectacularly, and hissed once more, louder this time. Though she knew it was unlikely they would busy themselves with an average assessment, she couldn't help blaming StarClan for her terrible luck with land-dwelling prey in her mind.

Another white bird, another chance at a possible catch. Swanpaw was growing tired of this, and she was beyond determined to succeed now. Unfortunately, the bird saw her coming from quite a distance, and took off into the air.

Okay, that settled it. StarClan was definitely messing with her.

Swanpaw was getting ready to shriek in frustration, but she refrained from doing that because... Well, because of several reasons, actually. For one, it was likely to rid herself of any chance to catch anything at all, and secondly it would also attract any nearby predators. She wasn't in the mood to fight anything at the moment, besides the odds of her actually succeeding in her assessment.

Oh, hey. A frog. She pounced on it without thinking, and somehow managed to catch it. Somehow. Maybe StarClan was finally taking pity on her, she mused as she delivered a killing bite. She carried it over the the fish, and set it on top of them. "Finally," she breathed.

Snailbelly had nodded off a little, then snapped to attention. "Huh- whazzit? Oh, you're done," he said, looking at the catch. His mouth watered, although he was trying his best to hide it. "Let's, uh, get back to camp, yeah?"

Swanpaw let out a soft sound of relief. "Yeah. Yeah, let's do that." Honestly, she didn't care if she passed this assessment. She had finished it, and that felt like a miracle in and of itself.
