Daisypaw's Hunting Patrol [Closed]

Lionspark shifted on her paws as she sat near the bramble entrance of the ThunderClan camp, her tail twitching as she waited for Daisypaw. It was a nerve-wracking thing, being given an apprentice mostly with the words of Specklefang still echoing in her ears. How was she suppose to be a good mentor when she wasn't even a good mother? She sighed as she shook her head, focusing on her paws as she flickered an ear. It...It wouldn't be hard - just hunting training. Teach Daisypaw the basics and go from there. She could do it...She was certain she could do it.

Daisypaw woke up and left the apprentice den for the first time. She saw lionspark waiting for her and headed that way. "Hey lionspark"she said sleepily. After she said hi her stomachs went off and noticed that she will never be able to have milk again. She started to drift off and then she noticed today was they day she would start training. She started to forget about her hunger and tiredness and started to jump around.

Lionspark shook her head with a slight chuckle as Daisypaw lazily made her way over to her before suddenly seemed to wake up. "Good morning Daisypaw," the warrior greeted softly in return as she stood up, stretching out her limbs slightly. "Come along, we should get started on your training," she meowed with a slight jerk of her head as she turned and ducked through the entrance of the camp and into the territory proper.

Daisypaw fallowed lionspark out of the camp and looked at the view. The only other time she was out of the camp was to see her father otterleap in Riverclan. Even then she had her sisters and brothers. She smelled so much stuff from last visit. She smelled rabbits, and a little fish from the river a way. She got sidetracked when she saw a rabbit and bounded after it."im going to get you weird looking animal."she said laughing and jumping. When she lost the rabbit she was lost and couldn't find lionspark."HELP!!!" she screamed and started to cry.

Lionspark blinked as she heard a rustle behind her, turning just in time to see Daisypaw darting off as a rabbit that had somehow strayed into the forest. "Daisypaw!" she yowled after the apprentice but she was already gone. "Dear StarClan..." the older warrior sighed as she shook her head, racing into the undergrowth after the apprentice. It was easy enough to track down the scent of her, slipping quietly through the undergrowth until her ears perked at the sound of the apprentice crying out. Her eyes widen as she picked up the pace, breaking into the small open area only to sigh in relief when she saw that the apprentice was alright and had simply been terrified. She gave a shake of her head, closing her eyes as she took in a deep breath.

"Daisypaw!" she scolded as she opened up her eyes, feeling her whole body shake in annoyance that the apprentice simply darted off like that. "Do not run off like that again you hear me? This might be our territory but it doesn't mean that there isn't danger - you don't know the lay of the land yet and you have seriously gotten hurt f you had stumbled into the Stony Hallow or Snakerocks. You are my apprentice and I am liable for your safety so never go chasing after any prey recklessly like that..." There was a hesitation as her voice drifted off, her expression softening as she took a step forward and gently pressed her nose against Daisypaw's forehead. "I've already lost so many cats on my watch, I couldn't stand if anything happened to you."

Im sorry lionspark but I saw a rabbit and wanted to catch it as a gift then I got lost." she wailed.
Daisypaw looked up at her mentor with sad eyes she didn't mean to run off. She just wanted to get a gift for her new mentor. "Im srry I'll never do it again."she said then waited for her directions

Lionspark gave a shake of her head, but there was a soft expression on her face as she looked down at Daisypaw. "I understand that you only meant for the best but so many dangers lurk outside of the safety of the camp..." she paused as she twitched an ear, dipping her head as the apprentice apologized. "But...If you are so keen on hunting, I suppose I can teach you how to properly hunt. Come along," she said with a flicker of her tail as she turned and headed back to the path that she and Daisypaw were taking before the apprentice had charged off.

Daisypaw started to smile at lionspark and fallowed her. She still felt bad that she made her mentor worry so she wanted to prove she was rlly a good apprentice. As she fallowed her mentor through thunderclan territory she smelled something weird. It smelled gross and she remembered what her dad told her it was. "Lionspark I smell smoke." she said scared. She knew smoke led to two legs or fire and she heard both are bad.

OOC: Daisy, I am going to kindly ask you to stop trying to pull this patrol off track. I understand that hunting patrols aren't that exciting and that you want to make it fun but this is a requirement that both you and I need...And that means getting around to the hunting part. Besides, I am currently restrained with not creating a paradox with this topic - a topic that takes place after this one is already set in motion so what transpires in this topic is limited to...Well, nothing crazy.
So, I am going to disregard what Daisypaw said in regards to the smoke so we can properly get this patrol started. Besides, chances are that we are going to get a battle encounter and I will teach you the battle system. And that is going to be a bit of excitement.

IC: Lionspark came to a stop as the two entered a small clearing, a breakage from the deep undergrowth that surrounded them. Her ear twitched as she opened her mouth, taking in the scents of the forest as she turned to look at Daisypaw. "Hunting is an important part of Clan life. We hunt for our family and our Clans, to feed those who cannot hunt for themselves yet and those who once walked this path but had since left to either become an elder or a queen," she explained with a swish of her tail. "Each Clan has their own way of hunting - ShadowClan relies on stealth, WindClan on speed, RiverClan on patience, SkyClan on skill with climbing and leaping. We however rely on tracking. ThunderClan is talented with it comes to tracking through the deep undergrowth that makes up our forest, easily locating our prey to sneak up and catch it."

She paused as she tasted the air, her gaze sweeping around the clearing until she spotted a squirrel not far from there nibbling on a nut at the base of tree. It sat on a root, heeding no mind to the two cats as Lionspark dropped into a crouch. "This is a hunting crouch," she explained in a soft tone as her attention remained focused on the squirrel. "Balance is important - spreading your weight carefully so that you shake the ground to much to alert the prey who would feel the vibrations before even catching your scent. You have to remain close to the ground, make yourself smaller while being careful not to let your tail or fur brush against the ground to make any noise while also keeping mind of where you place each paw to avoid dead leaves or sticks. Now watch me, I'm going to go for that squirrel..."

She drifted off as she slowly started to stalk forward, her eyes narrowing as her ears slicked back on her head. The squirrel being on a root made this a bit of a challenge - she had to be mindful of her leap to make sure she didn't accidentally land awkwardly and hurt herself with the uneven landing location. She drew as close as she dared before she stopped, giving her rump a small shake as she tighten up her muscles before she sprung forward at the squirrel. The only sound that was made was the nut hitting the ground as Lionspark landed, quickly snatching the squirrel up in her jaws as she quickly ended its life. With a proud purr, she turned to face Daisypaw as she headed back toward her apprentice and laid the squirrel on the ground. "And that is how you hunt," she said with a soft nod of her head. "Now I want you to give it a try but stay where I can see you, alright?"

Daisypaw watched her mentor in awww. She wanted to try and took a sniff. When she caught a sent she stalked towards it. When she saw it she almost laughed. It was a brown animal with a white tail and big ears. She walked towards it then stopped when the animal looked up. It moved its ears and nose then ran off. Daisypaw trotted up to her mentor then sat down."i didn't get it." she wailed. She moped the whole time she talked about her hunting attempt.

"It was a valiant first attempt," Lionspark cooed as Daisypaw padded back to her, taking a step forward to brush her cheek against the young apprentice's head. "Nobody catches every single piece of prey but learning to move pass failures like that..." she blinked, hears slicking back as her daughter's words to stop dwelling in the past. "Well...That is true strength, isn't it?" She gave a shake of her head as she opened her mouth but stopped as a different scent caught her attention. Her eyes shrunk to pin-points as she found herself recognizing it as a shadow fell over the two of them.

"Daisypaw, watch out!" She threw herself forward, knocking the apprentice away as a screech of an owl broke the air. The bird of prey was mid-dive, unable to pull up as its target shifted suddenly as talons raked across Lionspark's cheek. The warrior stumbled backwards as the owl tried to take flight to move out of range but the she-cat threw herself forward, tackling the owl to the ground with an angry hiss. Her apprentice wasn't being hurt on her watch.

Wild owl uses Talon Strike on Lionspark, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina.
Lionspark uses Rear-up to Slash on wild owl, dealing 13 damage and costing 15 stamina.

OOC: And here is some excitement for you~ Rolling a ten on the dice such as you did as a trigger for a battle encounter. Normally it would be the one who rolled it to bring in and RP the predator but seeing how you don't yet know the battle system, I figured I would take care of that part.

The battle system, like the hunting system, is not as complex as it may seem at first although there is more information to understand.

First thing to know is that each cat has a rank - for example Daisypaw is an apprentice with 20 hit points and 80 stamina while Lionspark, being a Warrior, has 60 hit points and 200 stamina. (All ranks listed here)

Along with each rank is a set number of 'moves' that they can preform - gaining more moves as they move up in rank along with being able to deal more powerful damage with them. Thus, while an apprentice can only deal 7 damage with the move 'Belly Rank', a leader can do a full 20 damage. Because of this its important to think about who you are fighting if a Roleplayer verses Roleplayer battle happens because rank tends to matter. (All moves and their damages are found here.)

Combat comes in the form of posts - each roleplayer makes a post of their cat attacking and dealing damage and the two will trade blows until one hits 0 hit points or stamina and is forced to flee the battle. There is no dodging blows - all damage must be taken. You can see an example of what it looks like in my power - the bolded summarizing what exactly I did and how much damage was done. Its also important to keep track of your own health and stamina so that mistakes are hopefully not made in combat.

Also here are the battle rules.

Daisypaw heard her mentor scream and then push her over. The fall hurt her a bit but not much when she looked back at her mentor to ask why she did that Daisypaw saw she was in a battle with a bird she never seen. She wanted to help but she didn't learn any fighting moves and if she got hurt she knew her mentor would feel guilty. When She saw that her mentor got scratched on her face she knew for sure she couldn't fight that bird without getting hurt so she watched her mentor and cheered for her to scared that she might loose her mentor.

Lionspark could hear Daisypaw shifting behind her, a bit relieved that her apprentice wasn't getting involved in this scuffle. The owl flapped its wings as it struggled to take air again, slashing out with its talons once more only to catch Lionspark in the shoulder. The she-cat bit back a yowl as she was sent stumbling back as fresh blood trickled from her new wound but shook it off as the owl tried to gain air. She crouched down and sprung, throwing all of her weight into the owl as she send both it and her crashing to the mossy undergrowth. She dug her claws into the owl's wings, not willing to let it escape in case it tired to attack one of her other Clanmates.

Wild owl uses Talon Strike on Lionspark, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Lionspark uses Jumping Strike on wild owl, dealing 12 damage and costing 20 stamina.

OOC: I am going to need you to lend aid for at least one post - one of your requirements to become a warrior is understanding the battle system so I have to make sure you understand how it works. Also if you help in this fight we don't have to do your assessment on this character which is good because almost nobody likes doing assessments.
