A Million Ways To Die In The Clans

Just a discussion that me and my friend had: What is the worst way to die?


Putting this in rp terms, of course, but what do you think the worst death a character can die is? What crushes you to watch/write? How would you dread your most beloved char die? I think this sort of question reveals a lot about you as a person. 

The worst way for me is a quick death. You'd think that's a good way, just a twinge of pain before your baby joins StarClan, but it's actually quite the opposite. The WORST is when the RPer doesn't spend paragraphs lamenting about their life, because they didn't get a chance to even say anything. Not getting a chance to say goodbye, think about your decisions... Nobody gets closure, and everyone around the character feels it the worst because now their friend/family/mate is dead and they never got to tell them this, that, or the other thing. It's the worst way to kill off a character, it's evil and heartbreaking (but truthfully, I live for those angsty feelings! it's the worst but I love it!). 

I've always wanted to make Scorchfrost's death heatbreaking, and I've considered making it quick and almost meaningless, but I can't do that to my bby. I would cry. 

So what about you guys? What death would you not even wish on your character's worst enemy?

I think slow ones are the saddest. Goodbyes makes things emotional. And lots of pain that lasts a minute or two. Just my two cents.

I think that sickness would be the worst. I dont really dont have a reason, but I feel that its the worst.

I think Sunpaw's death was probably one of the worst ways to die. He was accidentally killed, pretty much the night before his warrior ceremony - and the chance it was him that was accidentally hit was pretty much one in a hundred . He was one of the first casualties of the Gathering, and he didn't even do anything, he didn't attack, just stood there being nervous. He spent his entire life under Dark Forest rule. He died quickly, and nobody remembered him. And as he died, he thought that 'we don't all die heroic deaths....not that I deserved one.'

He thought that he didn't deserve to be remembered and go out fighting. That's a pretty sad way to die.

Dying of smoke inhalation. We had a bunch of apprentices who risked life and limb for their kin only for them to be dead by the time they were rescued. Nothing more painful than your family desperately trying to revive you but there's nothing they can do.

I think the worst one is dying by something the character has been struggling against for a long time, and it seems to get better, only for it to suddenly go downhill and they die because of it. This usually correlates with a sickness, but it can also apply to clan rivalries.

I know this is a Clan-only sort of topic, but I couldn't resist joining in anyway with a bunch of more broad/non-specific/human-related deaths because I'm a sadist and angst is my specialty. not

Going to try and put things down that other people haven't written. There may be some sensitive material in here, so please don't read it in the case that you may get triggered.

• Whether it be brainwashed or turned into a monster or something along those lines, forcing loved ones to fight one another and the only way to free them from their state is to kill them. Bonus points if the one who did the killing later finds out that there was actually a way to save them without having to murder their loved ones. Alternative route goes that the one still living is overcome with guilt and kills themselves to joined their loved one again.
  
• The situation at hand calls for it - more people will be saved if one person dies. One sacrifice. Just one. And the bad thing is that that one person is very willing to die and go through with it, even if everyone tells them not to do it. Or even, the people they called friends and such help them go through with it without realizing that that one person was going to die; the information is omitted from them until the very end.
  
• Death by a sickness that takes a long time to progress, but there's no cure to it. Loved ones, families, friends all have to watch slowly and slowly as the sickness overtakes the person with the full knowledge that there's absolutely nothing they can do about it. Absolutely. Nothing. It can be even worse if it doesn't seem like said person is sick until their very last moments, making others feel guilty about never noticing.
  
• Taking a fatal blow meant for someone else. Even worse when the other person is someone they love or really care about and said person holds them in their arms or whatever, watching as their life fades away before their very eyes. Made even more worse when it was an ambush or something and the person who took the blow urges for the others to leave behind them as a decoy to keep fighting while they escape. Maybe one or two people would protest and the rest of the others have to drag them away to prevent them from going against their wishes. Dying to protect someone else in general, though.
  
• Dying under the impression that nobody has ever wanted the person around or cared for them in the slightest or that their entire life or existence has been meaningless. In the case that it is a betrayal act, they fight the people that they had been traveling/being 'buddy-buddy' with and wind up dying in that battle instead, especially when those people they're fighting made it very clear beforehand that they didn't want them around. This can go under why suicide occurs as well.
  
• The person that's dying has knowledge ahead of time that they're going to die, but nobody will notice they're missing because they've been replaced almost all too easily.
  
• During a mission of vengeance - something they had made their entire life goal -, they fail to fulfill it and die as a result of said mission, even if many have tried to dissuade them to try and stop without any success of whatsoever.
  
• Family fighting family; one is on the 'good guy' side while the other is on the 'bad guy' side. Good guy doesn't realize that they have families on the bad guy side because of a mask or something and then when the masks falls off during a fatal blow, only then did they realize that they just killed one of their family members. Bad guy clearly knows they're fighting their family, and feels bad for it, but they don't hesitate.
  
• Death while giving birth. Especially when you've grown very very very attached to said character. 'nuff said.
  
• Accidental death as children. Playing around and having fun, say, on ice or something without taking heed to the warning signs, and then the ice cracks and the child drowns while all of their friends are helpless to do anything. Similar deaths could be playing with flammables and thinking it's fun to have cigars and such around; get trapped inside and die as a result. Deaths by car crash due to being intoxicated or high work too. Climbing a tree and falling off by accident, etc. etc.
  
• Unexpected deaths. When you're so certain that the character is going to live, so certain they're going to make it to the very end, but lol nope, the writer kills them off in the most unexpected way possible. They aren't graced with farewells or closures or anything - all of their potential goes down the drain and their arc is cut abruptly short.
  
• Backstabbing betrayals - even worse when the person dying is killed by their best (or only) friend, whether it be out of greed, envy, or something else.
  
• When characters are suffering as they live, being put through hell at each and every moment, and their only solace is death. Killing them literally puts them out of their misery. looking at all of you fellow sadists out there
  
• Deaths that pass by without anyone ever knowing. People are sent out to war and such - for example - and their loved ones are waiting for them back home, but they never return. They keep waiting, convinced that said dead person will come back for them, but it never happens and they die still believing such.
  
• A family is reunited at last after so many struggles and hardships. But the gods decide, yeah no happy ending, and then they're torn apart by death once again.
  
• Young soldier deaths during wars in general, to be honest, especially way back in the past. Burn for the fatherland. Dulce est decorum est, pro patria mori.
  
• Being convicted of a crime that the person didn't commit and being sentenced to prison for life, rotting away in the cell and dying without ever having their name cleared.
  
• Chu's Genius Idea: The group is taking down and beating up some baddie. They've dealt the final blow and killed them. They all cheer. Turns out a illusion creation person has been screwing with them. They all ganged up to beat up one of their own. That person died thinking everyone suddenly turned on them.

To be honest, I think the worst ways to die I can think of I've done to my characters.

Missingkit-- lasted one topic. Left the nursery for the first time and died by hawk three steps out of the nursery. Poor sucker couldn't even run.

Mapleface was tragic and I cried a couple times writing with Shaddy girl.

Mapleface was daughter of Gingerheart and Cedarfur, sister of Thrushstar. She was gorgeous, so beautiful and much more talented than her brother. However, one day on patrol Thrush was going to be attacked by a fox. At the last minute, Mapleface jumped in front of the fox to save Thrush because she felt bad for how she treated him and instinct. Her face was torn off and her jaw broken, but she survived. She then recovered, but it was slow and painful and she watched from the MC Den as her brother became a great warrior and deputy. One day after she was fully healed, Mapleface got in a fight with Thrush and ran out. It started pooring, and Mapleface slipped on a cliff face and got impaled on a rock where her brother found her.

Mapleface also haunted Thrush for basically the rest of his life but yah know

Sweet StarClan, you're going to kill Pepper with this... She'll just keep waiting and waiting for him when he's dead. The poor bby.. totally reincarnating her in TC with a less sucky life. The bby deserves something that doesn't come with an angsty aftertaste...

I want an interesting yet heartbreaking death for my bby Blackpaw when the time comes. He might go into denial about something and hallucinate? He might be led somewhere and die.

Scorch won't be kicking the bucket for a while, though he might come close at the gathering. Before he does I promise he'll see Pepper again if we time it just right we could reincarnate them both and give them a fresh start
